It was easy to get around in the museum and the items were well marked. In some cases, I found it would have been nice to have more of the back story. We want to see everything, but only deep dive into things that catch our interest. Unfortunately, almost everything catches our interest making our visits too lengthy for other family members. This visit was especially exciting for us. We are both Texas Master Naturalists with the Alamo Area chapter. The CEO of the museum is also a member and one of our dear friends. We hoped to see her, but since our original plans got messed up by family interference, we were there on a Saturday. Believe it or not, our friend had come in to catch up on some work. She met with us, got us oriented, and set us free to explore her wonderful museum. We liked all of the exhibits. I especially enjoyed the section on the wildlife of the area. One night at our rental, I swore I heard a pack of coyotes nearby. The museum verified that they are alive and well on Mustang Island. We also enjoyed the Kenedy collection. The whole era of riverboat captains on the Rio Grande and the way many of them morphed into prominent ranchers excites me. It was fun to take a deep dive into one of the key ranch families of the time. The museum has a large children's section with fun activities, but we skipped it since my grandson wasn't with us. Now I wish I had at least looked at it. If you haven't been to the museum, skip the beach one afternoon next time you are in the area and visit. It is a great place.

He loved the science area as well as the cool rocks and minerals exhibits. The spacious rooms offered room to wander and made you feel free to take your time reading all the information provided at each stop. The staff member traced my photo and it was fair. My friends dog photo was sketched by the staff member and it measured about 4x3 inches on a 16x20 inch canvas. The sketch was a joke. We had 4 photos, if the staff was unable to sketch the chosen photo, admit it. It was horrible. It looked like a poor tracing of the photo. I'm adding a cropped photo of the canvas. Waste of money and waste of time. We had to wait for help and paint. Just to be clear there were only a total of 3 people, plus 2 walk-ins.

When we left at 1:15, it was much more crowded! People were at the little beach area, and a bunch visiting the USS Lexington! We really enjoyed the entire history! The restorations that were in progress and those completed on the flight deck. On the flight deck, there is so many great planes to see and read about. On the aft of the flight deck, we saw an arrow and stairs to the arresting gear room that had the arresting equipment. (how they stop the landing aircraft within a few hundred feet). It was a wonderful little area that I think many miss. When you climb back out, you're right back on the landing deck. You can the. Go,to,the pilot house. There was also a 3D air carrier movie that was absolutely amazing! Well worth admission to see this part of history!

Konichiwa, Y'all! This is a cool museum right in Downtown…read moreCorpus Christi that takes you across Asia to learn all about the different cultures that makes up the continent! I came here for Smithsonian Museum Day, where admission is FREE!! The museum opened up its galleries for the public and had demonstrations, displays and events going on! The downstairs area consists of the main galleries and the gift shop. I felt that the prices at the gift shop were quite reasonable if you're in the need for Asian stuff for the home to feng shui is up, or for some jade jewelry. The design of the museum was quite interesting, with a neat walkway that is reminiscent of the Royal Palace in Seoul to the Korean wing, and windows that look out on samurai statues and bamboo gardens! It's quite idyllic. The museum had all kinds of cool, interesting things to check out. While we were there, a docent was giving a talk on Asian weapons! Hiiiiya! Upstairs is accessible with an elevator, and has a library and a doll collection from Japan. Apparently, the founder of the museum was a lady from the area who was retired, loved to travel, and struck it rich with oil. She continued to travel, buying cool stuff she came across, and writing journals about her experience. The upstairs library has all of her writings on catalog, which range from intricate details about mundane aspects of her trip, to in-depth looks at culture and fashion. The collection of Japanese dolls she amassed is quite impressive. A docent was happy to walk us through the collection, pointing out the highlights and significance of the collection. My favorite was the Japanese doll of Richard Nixon! Sock it to Me!!! Parking was easy, and the museum is located amid a bunch of other local attractions, making it a cool quick stop to scope out the culture!

We took our daughters (ages 14 and 15) to get henna tattoos and truly regret the experience…read more Looking back, we should've walked out the moment we noticed the woman doing the tattoos appeared to be under the influence of something--but the girls were so excited, and we didn't want to disappoint them. Almost immediately, it was clear that the henna work looked sloppy and unprofessional. When we voiced our concerns, the artist kept reassuring us that it would "look better once it dried." Not knowing much about henna tattoos ourselves, we trusted her. Big mistake. The designs ended up smudged (by her own hands), uneven, and honestly just awful. Despite following all the aftercare instructions and being careful not to touch them, the final result looked like a bad joke. Our daughters were disappointed and embarrassed. When we went back the next morning to speak with a manager, hoping to resolve the issue, we were met with rudeness and complete dismissal. No offer to make it right, no accountability, and no acknowledgment of the poor service. I'm not sure how anyone could look at those tattoos and claim they were acceptable. This was a letdown all around--for our girls and for us as parents trying to give them a fun experience. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
