He only has naturally vivified wine and took the time to explain the difference. We had a lovely Spanish Cava and he offered a delicious taste of cheese and some bread. It's tiny, situated in an off the beaten track, diverse neighbourhood. An undiscovered gem which I know will change. We loved the quirkiness of this place and would highly recommend it.

I really don't understand why vineyards in this area are such a hidden gem given my love of tempranillo. They are more rustic than California vineyards. However, they will move you with their passion and joy for wine. We also had an amazing traditional potato/egg frittata with our wine tasting....I may have had 4 helpings lol. They offer shipping to USA. It was economical to Illinois....not so much for New England area but bueno for me :)

We visited this fab little winery during our tour with Gourmet Madrid (pls check my review of…read morethem). This vineyard is just outside of Madrid city and part of the Madrid DO (district of origin.....for wine labelling purposes). Madrid bas been producing wine for ages, but is not as well known outside of Spain. Anyways the vintner here is an absolute joy, she is 70-80 yrs old, part of a family that has been producing wines for 200 years or so, and still produces them in clay pots which is a rare sight. Her enthusiasm and passion are infectious. She was generous with her time and sharing delicious bottles, some which are not on the market yet. We picked up a few bottles. They say every bottle has a story, I never fully absorbed it till I connected with her. She epitomizes it. Definitely recommend a visit. But in Spain always phone/email vineyards days ahead of your visit.

Next was a delicious lunch and then a visit to Segovia with three stops at the Alcazar, the Cathedral and the Aqueduct. Having gotten off the plane just a few hours before, I wasn't interested in processing didactics in the museo part, so we went straight to tasting, where we were welcomed warmly! €8 gets you a delicious tinto, 3 ages of Manchego (aged under 3mo, 6mo, and older than a year), plus pepper jam, olive butter, almonds, breadsticks, and pheasant pâté on Melba. It was all delicious, and very filling after hours walking through the city. There was an upcharge for more expensive wines but I wasn't interested so glad we stuck with the basic tinto, which was the best tinto I had the whole trip (and I had some very good ones). The bathrooms were clean and helped so much as travelers not staying the night in this city. We went to the counter to pay our cuenta and our server (who had been so friendly and kind throughout our experience), got out here balloon animal kit and my son insisted it would be a dog. I knew better what would come from Toledo; I was right, a sword! My son had a ball with his balloon sword, until the inevitable (but that's how you know you had fun). You definitely need to stop here and taste Toledo before you leave all its beautiful sights!

Got to see wine production as it happened. Guided tour was marvellous and the caves/ cellars atmospheric. A plentiful wine tasting of the most sumptuous wines along with cheeses/ crackers was included. After this our trip ended with a delicious meal and even more fine wine in the Yllera restaurant! You don't have to worry about driving (this is important because you are going to be drinking a lot of wine) and it is in a very comfortable Mercedes Minivan. You get access to 3 different wineries and sample at least 3-4 wines with the option to purchase a full glass (6-8 euros), light snacks to go with the wine, a knowledgeable tour guide, you get free time in Aranda del Deuero/Burgos (where we went into wine caves to sample some wine, this was our second stop) to have lunch-my small tour group of 5 all opted to dine at El Lagar de Isilla- recommended by the tour guide. We also stopped in Segovia for some pictures and drinks after the third and last winery. Be prepared to set aside a whole day for this tour, we left at 9 AM and got back around 8 PM. However,I never felt rushed and it was the highlight of my trip to Madrid. You get to see the beautiful countryside, drink exceptional wine, visit 2 historical cities, and meet new people. Wine tour to Madrid…read more One of the best tours we've been on. Ismael, our guide and aspiring winemaker, was helpful, knowledgeable and jovial. Not only did we visit 4 wineries , we also had the opportunity to savour local food (cheese, jamon, olive oil) and squeeze a few historical sites enroute. The winemakers we met were reintroducing wines from a bygone era or producing in a style that not vastly different from two to three hundred years ago. There was plenty of good wine and food (including a sit down lunch) on this tour. Will definitely repeat!
