I'm stood on Cardigan Road ready to get some bits and bobs of food shopping on a Saturday. Straight ahead I see Village video and the Co-operative supermarket. With the co-op hoarded with students, queues and empty shelves sometime I just cannot face it!
Therefore small family run groceries and DVD rental store Village Video is a much more relaxed option. The shop is small and full of the essential at reasonable cheap prices. In addition to food basics the shop sells very cheap wine and beer as well as a variety of sweets (perfect when renting a DVD).
In contrast to the low cost food goodies, Village Video's film rental costs are quite pricey. At £3-£4 pound a pop the corner shop is charging more than the local blockbusters. Despite the library being fairly large it cannot compare to the new releases chain rental companies have to offer. In addition to this, DVDs are costing less and less in the shop, making it cheaper to go and buy a film you want to see rather than rent!
Despite rental costs Village shop is a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the masses of shoppes in the Co-Op next door! Village video's has a nice family feel and friendly staff.
It does the job if you need you change, however the prices do not compare to those offered by larger chains. read more
