BEST VET IN WORLD! I have been going to village vet ever since I moved to York Maine back in 2014. I own a German Shepherd and is a very hyper active anxious dog. As we all know going to the vet is very stressful for animals however York Village vet is the best place to go. Place makes it easy on the animals and easy on you. I technically live in Boston now and travel an hour and a half just to come to this place. I have never experienced a problem and they always give me the best treatment for my dog, also at a very very reasonable price. I've never experienced an overcharged and I've never experience a bad situation. Was warned in advance about this place, ended up giving them the benefit of the doubt. Big mistake. Most of the staff is great. The owner is extremely rude and unprofessional. Doesn't know what she is doing but is quick to blame other staff members. Does not take the time to explain in full or make any sense, but has no problem calling you after hours to give her two cents in the most rude unprofessional way possible. Go anywhere else but here, unless you want your pocket run with no answers and bags full of pills. read more

I was so pleased with Village Veterinary, I am summering in York and my dog was not feeling well. I called and even though it was the doctor's surgery day they fit him in. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful, the office was extremely clean. We were even greeted by a beautiful greyhound. We purchased a home in York in 2006, and began looking for a local veterinarian for our two dogs. After trying a veterinary clinic around the corner from our new house, we decided to make an appointment at Village Veterinary and meet Dr. Matthews. The staff at Village Vet were very kind to our dog during this meet and greet, and we knew we had found our new veterinarian. A few weeks later we ended up at the Emergency Vet in Portsmouth with one of our dogs. The next morning one of Dr. Matthew's veterinary technicians called us to ask how he was doing, and to let us know that they were there for us and for Dempsey if we needed them. Since that time Dr. Matthews has been there for us and our two dogs (now three). She and her staff have gotten us through some scary times (puppy flu, an emergency spay, rabies vaccine reactions, etc.). When Dr. Matthews decided to pursue her certification in homeopathy she began to treat our younger dog, Dempsey, who our previous veterinarians had been treating (unsuccessfully) for gastrointestinal issues and skin allergies. We had just lost our older dog to cancer, and Dempsey stopped eating. He lost weight, there were sores on his feet and hind quarters that wouldn't go away, and I was afraid we would lose him. He was clearly grieving, but Dr. Matthews gave him a homeopathic treatment. He perked up quite quickly, and she went about treating him for his gastrointestinal issues, and his skin issues, one step at a time. She was the first veterinarian in the area to begin using laser treatments, and for us, this has been a godsend for Dempsey. I never thought that Dempsey would live to be ten years old, let alone twelve going on thirteen. We don't know what we would do without Dr. Matthews, Dr. Bluestone, and the staff at Village Veterinary. Our dogs love visiting, even when they aren't feeling well, and everyone in the office has been extremely attentive, kind, and caring to our three dogs and to us. Provides great care for your pet. I don't think there isn't anything they can't do for your pet. They are also the only vet in the entire area that can provide Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation (VOM). It's a form of chiropractic work for animals. I thought they were nuts for suggesting it, but it's the only thing that has helped my dog with her back issues. She does not take any pain meds and is like a puppy as long as she has VOM every month. It's truly a life/pain saver. My dog is living proof that this practice works. This practice is so rare that even a veterinary hospital in another state who specializes in rehabilitation does not perform this procedure (which is mind boggling). My other dog could not stomach pain meds and antibiotics after a surgery. We tried homeopathics and that's what helped her with her pain. They definitely know what they're doing when it comes to medical care for animals. We've been going there for 12 years and counting...... read more

If I could rate nothing, I would. Worst vet I've ever gone to. I brought 2 cats in to get fixed, and everything was fine until I drove away and left the cats with them. I was called by the Vet who demanded to know where I got my cats? She indicated my cats where from the shelter and had problems. I've never gotten a shelter cat....... It was very rude and disrespectful from the beginning. The vet then said she needed to do a feline lukemia test because one of my cats looked rugged or sick or whatever her opinion was. she wanted $50 for it!!!! I was there to get them fixed. Thats it. I said I couldn't pay for it, then she was even more rude about it. told me she would do it for $27 but that it needed to happen. Awful conversation. 3 minutes later I got a call back saying it was negative. Cool I barely had the money for that and said no, but had no choice. Hope she feels stupid now. After I picked my cats up, the vet came out to my car with NO MASK ON to speak to me........ and I never got a receipt for my payment for the feline lukemia, who knows, I was probably scammed. Zero professionalism. I never got a paper at ALL indicated I even brought my pets in.... it was like this vet has never been a vet before. Baffling, terrible experience. I had to email and ask twice to get some form of paperwork for our records. I got a lame, nothing email back with a just fill in the blank paperwork. DON'T EVER COME HERE! There are plenty of other vets you can go to that don't make you feel like you got your cats off the side of the road. read more

Frustrated and hopeless, Julia and her staff took our family in to try and get a hold on Thor's problem. If I could give Dr. Matthews and her staff 10 stars I would. We have been using Village Veterinary for the past eight years and can't say enough about the care and treatment that has been given our dogs and cat. Dr. Matthews is extraordinarily thorough, competent, caring and professional. She listens, explains and cares. Her staff of young women are caring, professional and competent, friendly and helpful as well. Recently she discovered a tumor in our 12 year-old dog during a routine examination. Nothing showed up on the X-rays but she continued to closely monitor it with an ultra sound follow-up. The ultra sound showed a large tumor on her liver. She was operated on immediately in what was a complicated and risky surgery. We can't say enough about the care and attention and skill and knowledge shown during surgery that was given to our dog as well as amazing post op care. The outcome of the surgery was astonishingly wonderful due to Dr. Matthews great ability in operating and after care. She believes in using natural products, laser treatments and acupuncture. Since coming to Village Veterinary we have lost a dog and cat. The compassion shown us at this time was so comforting as it was done in such a loving, caring and appropriate manner.
