If you are a real ale or railway enthusiast you probably know this pub. If you are looking for a real local boozer, you have found it.
No local car park, but very convenient for the train station, with buses passing the door often, this pub has a crib team, cricket team and a football team. It is frequented by real characters and is an honest to goodness pub. As it is a free house a constant array of changing brews is offered. Downtown breweries Quadhop is a regular, and for the lesser mortals Guinness and a couple of lagers are always on tap.
Sporting fixtures, royal weddings, and similar events are televised here. English rugby is a real favourite. Adrian, the landlord, has worked here for many years and has recently taken over the lease from Joe Morris who ran it for nearly thirty years. He has a gentle hand on the tiller, and has only added to the quality of the experience with his enthusiasm.
Catch the train to Salisbury, explore the city, and sample a few pints or five here before heading back to the station. read more
