The inside was just "ok" but I wanted to give a good review especially because of the staff, they were really nice and friendly. The showers are CRAZY small. Like, if you need to shave you got to do that before (or after) getting in the shower. Some rooms are really small and some a bit larger. I moved to the smallest on the first night there on my own (could barely get around even with just me in the room) and luckily something larger on on the second night when I had a roomie. There were more floors at this hotel versus some of the others that I stayed at, this one had about five, I think. They have an old school, smaller elevator - but I just booked it up and down the stairs most days, 'cause I can. And exercise is good. Also, the breakfast here was better than some others during my tour of Italy, it just had more of a variety. The view from the top balcony where breakfast was served was also a nice little touch. As far as the inside of the rooms, I'd probably go 3 solid stars, but as mentioned, the staff pushed it to 4. Get the WiFi password!

After finding the mold, I checked under the sheets for bed bugs and found a stain on the mattress. Definitely not the three stars they advertised.

The rooms is not large but extremely well decorated, with a beautiful street view. The bathroom is also not large, but again decorated with great attention to details. 10 minute walk to the Spanish steps and all kind of fun.

I contacted the Grand Hotel Palace directly and they made everything so easy. They arranged for a car from the airport to the hotel . After the long flights, it was nice to walk out of the airport and find our ride to the hotel waiting. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we loved the room. The location is very good with short walks to the top of the Spanish stairs (go left out of the front door and straight down Via Liguria...it's flat and there's a stop for the Hop-On Hop-Off bus) and to the Trevi Fountain. The Coliseum and Forum are walkable as well. I would pass on the breakfast. It had a limited selection of hot items (scrambled eggs, bacon, and some rather odd sausages) and was expensive at 25 Euros per person. There are many cafes where you can sit outside on the way to the sights. We spent less than half of what Viking would have charged with the hotel and shuttles. If we find ourselves in Rome again we will only look as far as the Grand Hotel Palace.

The bed was comfortable and everything was very clean. The turndown service at night with chocolates was a great touch. The second best thing about the hotel is its location. It's within walking distance of the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. There's lots of restaurants nearby, and a Hard Rock down the block. The only thing I would suggest not doing is ask the concierge for restaurant recommendations, he gave us a real clunker. Outside of that, staying here was a great experience!

It was apparently very popular back in the day with a lot of celebrities whose pictures are in each of the well-appointed rooms (maybe these celebrities even stayed in the rooms where their pictures are? Mine had a picture of Audrey Hepburn and my parents (who stayed in a suite) had a big picture of Marilyn Monroe in it!). The hotel is a balance of classic Roman Rennaissance, Art Deco, and modern design, which I'll have to admit was a bit overwhelming at first. You can't ask for a better location in Rome, either. This is as central as you can get. The service here is second-to-none. From check-in to room service, the attention to detail is amazing and greatly appreciated! My parents' suite even had a fully-stocked bar with a great selection of liquors and mixers. Next time I visit Rome, I'm staying here!
