The nursing staff is excellent and takes great care of all the residence. During Covid-19, the protocols they put in place to protect the residence were creative and met all state guidelines. They went above and beyond to schedule ZOOM meetings so that families could still visit with their loved ones. My Mom, at 96, has thrived since moving in and loves it and all it caregivers. The Management Team does everything in their power to make sure their lives are filled with fun, love and companionship.

Of course the transition of moving from her home of many years to an independent living community wasn't the easiest move but she couldn't be happier. And if mama's happy, her kids are happy! The community is gorgeous -- anyone can see that but the staff is incredible! The compassion, respect and care given by the entire team tops any senior community out there. It's obvious they work so well together as a team -- you don't see turnover like other communities. The residents are like family -- everyone looks out for one another and truly enjoy each other's company. Cedarbrook is the most wonderful place for our Mom. We are so glad we found you.

I thought a long time before I wrote this post. I was very persistent with my family to bring my…read moremom to the Plymouth Inn because I knew two other people who's parents were residents there years ago and were very happy. I could go on and on about the several incidents that happened in her short (two months) time there, but I won't because there are some staff members who do really care about the residents. There are, however, underpaid staff members who should not be employed there. My mother did have some dementia, which made her act angry and very verbal on occasions. The staff must not have been trained to understand the disease because several of them would take offense towards my mother. That saddened me, because this was not my moms normal disposition. I tried to be patient since my mom was new , but when I found out someone had entered her room at night, went into her walker compartment, took out her wallet and stole all her cash, that's when I lost it! From then on, I knew I would never feel comfortable with my mom there even though I visited almost everyday. My brother flew in and immediately took her back to Florida with him. She's 94 years old and I miss her so much. All her family is here in Michigan, but at this point, she feels comfortable with him because she was never comfortable at the Plymouth Inn. Like I said, many of the staff have been there for years and are very good at what they do, but because of the employee shortage and the need to hire people who are not trained has taken a toll. Unfortunately, my family, especially my mom had to be a part of it.

This place is so unprofessional. Let's start up and work our way down. Joann is the director who…read moredoesn't do anything. Aides report things to her and she doesn't do anything about it. Residents have had money stolen, jewelry stolen, left wet for hours (due to midnight aides who she has yet to correct but doesn't and let them do whatever) and more. She has a VERY nasty attitude when you come to her about something and gets smart as well. The nurses on staff even stated that she doesn't do anything about the complaints but brush them underneath the rug. Nurses are disrespectful to each other (midnights and mornings). The nurse on morning shift is very lazy and gets very upset when there's work to be done constantly complaining. For example a resident was injured on midnight shift, the nurse on that shift didn't write a report incident so they left it for mornings to do and the nurse on morning was not going to do it because she didn't feel like doing the paperwork. DO NOT SEND YOUR FAMILIES HERE! They treat them any kind of way! Horrible place of business and very surprised it hasn't been shut down. So many laws are broken in this facility.

This company does not pay its vendors on time and has plenty of excuses why it does not. We…read moreprovided services to this assisted living facility, and they have not paid their bills. They do not dispute the services with us. The activity director promised several times to send us payment for our services and has not followed through. The executive director, regional administrator and the activity director have blamed the lack of payment on their corporate office. Supposedly, they are going to correct the situation, but they have not done so for months. This must justify why they are totally unable to get small invoices paid, do not follow through about providing an answer about sending payments and then do not send us payment. Are they having financial issues generally? Who knows. This is a disservice to the elderly who live there as well as to the honest vendors who provided them with services.

Right before I walked in to meet Raena, the community specialist, for the first time, I said to my sister, who accompanied me, "I have a good feeling about this place." And I was right! Raena was knowledgeable, friendly and thorough. She answered all of our questions and made us feel comfortable. The community is clean and relaxed and visually appealing. But more importantly is the culture of the facility. I witnessed employees joking around with each other more than once! They were happy at work - imagine that! The residents were happy as well, and both the employees and residents were welcoming to my sister and me who were strangers on a tour. The community has activities every single day, a doctor that visits once a week, a hair salon, game rooms, meal service, laundry service, a 24 hour receptionist and I could go on and on. On move in day we were all a little nervous, but my family member was welcomed with open arms and that welcome has not stopped yet! I can honestly say that she is getting personalized attention (and love) from the staff and all of the residents have been so very kind and encouraging to her. Mary (Community Liason) has been an asset to getting my family member settled. She has honestly gone above and beyond and is still, 3 months later, helping my family member adjust. I can't say enough about this facility!

The manager runs a tight ship and the employees are wonderful. Nice looking facility. Separate dining rooms instead of a large dining area makes the meal setting more personal & interactions. The food…read morewas good, my mother made some very nice friends during her stay there, and there were plenty of activities for the residents and their families. We were grateful that there was a unit available large enough for two people so we were able to keep my parents together per their wishes. The bad: We had problems with housekeeping, laundry, billing practices, and obtaining my parents' records upon leaving the facility. Some things were discussed with us during the contract signing (such as a rate guarantee special that was being offered at the time) that we had to insist on getting in writing before we would sign. Also, the Brookdale agent said things such as, "Oh, I don't know why our contract still says that. We need to have that changed" or "Don't worry about that part". It was quite unnerving to be asked to sign contracts involving many thousands of dollars per month under those conditions. The most troublesome issues for our family at Brookdale Northville had to do with medical care. My parents' long-time physician was on a leave of absence when they moved in, so we made the difficult decision to contract with Brookdale for health care. We paid extra each month (in addition to what Medicare and secondary insurance were billed) for the services of Dr. Frank Winters and for the Brookdale healthcare team, and things overall did not go well. During my parents' residency at Brookdale we experienced failure of the care team to properly follow doctor's written orders; medication administration, ordering, and billing issues; inaccurate record-keeping; and frequent communication difficulties regarding medications, illnesses, treatments, test results, outside referrals, etc. The ugly: Each of my parents left Brookdale Northville under dire medical circumstances, via ambulance, at our family's insistence. Our family repeatedly expressed concerns to Dr. Winters and to the medical staff that my father was getting weaker, continued to have atrial fibrillation and anemia, that his breathing sometimes sounded raspy, and that he complained of increased fatigue and trouble breathing. We made multiple requests for the doctor to check on his lungs. We were repeatedly reassured by Dr. Winters directly or through healthcare staff - even up until just a few days before my father landed in the ER - that his lungs were fine. This was also after several inquiries by various family members over the prior months about sending our father to the hospital due to his increasing weakness and other symptoms. We were repeatedly told that his problems could be handled "as an outpatient" and that he wasn't sick enough to be admitted to the hospital. My father ultimately became so weak that he couldn't stand, and our family instructed for an ambulance to be called. He was quickly diagnosed with a collapsed lung in the ER, and he died after several days in the hospital. My mother had a sudden and erratic decline in her mental and physical condition, which turned out to be due to a urinary tract infection and hyponatremia (very low sodium levels in the blood). This was not recognized or pursued by Dr. Winters and the care team despite apparent classic symptoms, concerns expressed by family members about our mother's significant change in mental status, her recent hospitalization for low sodium, and multiple falls over several days due to extreme weakness. Dr. Winters wrote in a visit report three days prior to her being rushed to the ER that urinary tract infection was a possibility, but he failed to follow through on ordering any lab tests to rule it out or to treat it. In his summary, he actually wrote that my mother's erratic behavior was likely due to dementia (she did not have a prior diagnosis of dementia). In retrospect, we wish we had known about services such as GoDocsGo, which offer in-home (or in- facility) health care. Please see separate review for Novi Lakes.
