The whole procedure is very quick as they give you an appointment & stick to it. So it's in and out in 15 minutes. If they have your finger prints on file from a previous application, the process is even faster. And the great plus point is that you can keep your passport with view while they process your visa and they call you for a 5 minute visit to stamp on your visa once it is ready. However, you should note that they only issue Schengen visas for up to 3 months earlier than your UK visa expires. The only faster visa processing I have had in London was strangely at the Egyptian consulate (which took forever when I applied in India and was excruciatingly painful every time we had to visit the Mogamma when living in Cairo) #LiveLifeLikeLDN

Expect big queues if you're coming here for a visa, rather than an ambassadorial reception. You…read moreshould bank on queuing for at least an hour, unless you can arrive very early, so bring a book and, if it's the summertime, a hat to avoid heatstroke. Make sure you don't forget your passport photos - two. You can go straight into the embassy when you arrive to pick up a form before coming back to queue up. Also, don't print out the form off the website, as they don't accept it - only the ones from the embassy. You pay for your visa on collection, so don't worry about bringing money when you come to apply. Make sure you're in the right queue - either the collection or application queue depending on what you're coming for. Visas are collected downstairs and you apply in the main building.

Staff were perfectly pleasant and very efficient, there was plenty of space to fill out forms in comfort and best of all I was leaving again a mere 15 minutes after I showed up. There was a problem though - I'd convinced myself the building was on the Mall when it's the other side of the park. I would have got there exactly on time if it had been where I thought it was, but as it happened I had to peg it across Green Park in sweltering heat to arrive, red faced, ten minutes late. I can't blame the embassy for that though.
