This shop gets four out of five on the basis of one excellent staff member. We were on a cruise and so we've been in souvenir shops all over the place in the run up to our stop in Helsinki. Now considering this is just off the square where the Lutheran Cathedral is, it's not the cheapest shop in town - but it isn't badly priced either.
We came in, and it's not overly cluttered, it's nicely laid out. Then the chap started talking to us and I thought "oh great, another pushy salesman". But he wasn't. He was just pointing out little things of interest, like for example, saying that this was the Christmas corner (which was pretty obvious) but then telling us about the wooden beads jewellery. But he read us really well, and when he realised we weren't that interested he didn't push the issue.
Now I'd seen these wooden trivets around in different shops, but it wasn't until he said that we should smell them that I found out the point of them. When they get hot, they release a lovely smell because it's slices of juniper. I just thought they were decorative. It smells lovely, I want everything to smell of juniper. Thus, this store gets four out of five for having such an excellent member of staff. read more
