The store specialises in importing music from all around the world but Clarity maintains a strong focus on Punk and Hardcore related products, as well as Metal, Indie, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Soul, Funk, Prog and much more. The enterprise aims to support all local music by stocking a large range of music from Adelaide and Australia. Obviously all of this is not to everyone's taste, but there are quite a few folk around who have a healthy love of this material, and we all try to support our local bands. I enjoy most of these music genres in moderation. I always enjoy having a bit of a chin wag with Matt one half of the team who run the show (the fellow behind the counter) and the store. The other half of the team is Laura Horvath and they have both lived and breathed music for most of their lives. Not just a shop, Clarity Records is a record label, releasing on both CD and Vinyl formats. Clarity Records releases are distributed in Australia & NZ by Shock Records. So our Matt Footy is pretty clued up on what's new, what's classic (in terms of punk and heavy metal etc.) and what's about to be released; he's a good person to speak with if you are having trouble finding what you are listening for. Pretty sure there were several customers looking at me nodding my head incessantly. One guy laughed at how much I was rapping with my hands, and even joined me and tried the headphones himself! LOL. (They WERE playing 'California Love' in the headphones. Coincidence? What a perfect match of a song for these headphones!) So sing with me and turn up the Dr.Dre Bass: "California looooooooove! New laptops, audio equipment, music CDs, DVDs, big screen TVs - yep, they got it all! Just be prepared for a long waiting line to get serviced. But these guys are quick at the counter, so you won't have to wait too long. Unfortunately I don't have several thousands of dollars to spare, so I quickly walked out wishing I could afford the Dr. Dre gangsta experience.

I have been wanting to buy the Logitech MX Master Mouse for some time, about two years. I had only…read morejust noticed a big price drop at Officeworks from RRP of about $100 to $45 each. I walked into JB Hifi - where it was stocked for $89 - bringing a print out of the Officeworks page that gave the price. I found the mouse and took 3 to the counter, one for myself, two as gifts. They did however only have the mouse in Cream, as opposed to the Charcoal colour I would have preferred, but nonetheless, it was the same model. At first I was led to expect that the price match would be honoured at the cashier, but after a bit of confusion it was disallowed, as the Officeworks page displayed only the Charcoal coloured mouse. They offered a conciliatory price of $65 each, but as a 17 year old student I simply can't afford them at that price. Disallowing the price match of an item on the grounds of colour is very disappointing, and I hope this situation may be rectified. Returning home, I learn Officeworks has now sold out. It is a good store with kind employees but is unfortunately held back by poor policy and lacklustre management. I can't say I will be as keen to visit JB Hifi in the future after this experience.

Basically most Harvey Norman stores are set up the same. Huge entrances to the furniture department. Usually entrances are in the middle of lounges, if you go one way you will ge tmore furniture then curve round to televisions and the likes, go the other way and get beds and bedding. I have managed to grab some fantastic bargains on some great pillows here actually. Heaps better quality than at department stores and they lasted heaps longer. The Electrical and Computers are usually in a separate section at the rear or one side of the store, with electrical left of the spearate entrance to this area and computer, mobiles phones, camera's, PC software, etc to the right of the registers. I have never purchased nay major electrical items from this store but have bought some really good computer equipment here. Including a fantastic Acer laptop. It was already out so cheap and had a cah back offer making it even cheaper in the end. I have always received good service here and been given some great advice from people who obviously know their products. Getting the service is the hardest part - they are usually really busy, more so in computers and electrical departments, and it may take a little wait before someone is available to help you. However once you have someone their service is usually very good, I have never had an issue with a staff member at any Harvey Norman store.

I haven't ever bought furniture at Hardly Normal's, just because if I'm paying that much, it'll be from a premium store, not this place, or any of the others. I do feel a bit sorry for those that have to buy their computers here. Seriously, go to MSY, buy the parts, and learn to do it yourself. You'll end up with a new skill, a computer that costs literally half the price (or less), and everyone will tell you you're awesome. Which is what I can't tell this place.

Amid the daggy pieces are some nice quality tops, and they are also good for summer dresses and formal dresses, sometimes pricing things at much lower than standard op-shop prices (though sometimes pricing them high - I think it depends on which volunteer did it!). At the moment, just before Christmas, there are a lot of women's dresses, and plenty of nice ones too. It seems that people have recently cleaned out their wardrobes and ditched the clothes they are sick of or no longer fit. So it's a very good time for op-shopping! The book selection here is low quality, and much of it is very dated. They have quite a large range of kids toys and clothes, and some men's clothing, and that's about it. It's an amusing place when you happen upon an elderly Russian lady trying to bargain down a winter coat with a determined shop volunteer. The bartering became quite heated, and she wasn't leaving the store without this coat, nor was she getting the enormous discount she wanted. Op-shops can be amusing places, and are always worth a visit.

There's always a bargain to be had in these types of stores and alot of it is a case of being in the right place at the right time. Clothing, shoes, accessories, pot, pans, mugs, glassware and general bric a brack is the order of these cheap stores and thank goodness they exist, otherwise it's all be called 'vintage'. I totally agree with Jo B as it really does depend on what volunteer sales person you get served by and the price you end up getting or bartering for, some just don't give in that easy. But I have to say I don't tend to barter that much with Vinnies or any other cheap store, considering the item was possibility two or three times the price it is now. Plus some of these stores don't know what the item/s are actually worth, I'm sure other 'vintage' shop owners pop into these shops on a regular basis to poach and re-sell. Another thing is, taking into account the money is going towards a good cause gives me that warm, fuzzy feeling.

Then the attraction to collect music with some amazing artwork and limited addition books that come with them. Or maybe it is just nostalgia? Records do have a specific sound that you can't replicate well on CD. My partner and I used to buy heaps of CDs. But stopped after a while as they just kept scratching. I have thrown so many away. Do you remember when you where younger ordering and waiting your favourite cassettes and CDs? There was a lot of excitement and anticipation of getting it home and thrashing it on your player. Or maybe you grew up in the vinyl era and you always knew the value of owning a piece of physical musical artwork. Recently my partner and I decided to purchase a record player from a thrift store. Consequently this has developed a lust for vinyl. We have been searching high and dry for good record stores. We came across Rocktherapy simply when driving past. The big record on top of the store is a good flagpole. The store is small, but has some quality and well priced records and CDs stocked. There are a couple of rare and collectables available depending on your taste. I was very happy to find a Grandmaster Funk LP for $10. Got that little gem home for many laughs and dancing around the living room. The gentleman that owns and runs the store is very friendly and helpful. He is happy to have a chat about music and what his store has too offer. I think that stores like this is something that I really missed from when I was growing up. Now with access the Mp3s kids are missing out on that sense of excitement in finding something cool in a record store and owning it's physical form! For my fellow vinylheads, worth a trip to browse!
