On a roadtrip from Minnesota heading to Florida and looking for something fun as we go thru each…read morestate...what could be more fun for a kid to stop at then firework store! We don't have stores like this in my state! So my kid was blown away when we walked through the door! And it turned into a fun stop for both of us! Erik what was the first to great us at the door. Absolutely amazing customer service! He was fun and patient with all our wide-eyed 120 questions! He showed us fireworks that would be great for daytime. I shoot off that were kid friendly. He also showed us that there were QR codes on some of the fireworks signs that took us to YouTube showing us how they look and work. The store also had a bunch of TVs mounted showing live videos of their employees shooting off the fireworks so you can see how they worked. SO MANY COOL FIREWORKS OF ALL TYPES! They also had a buy one get one for $.99. No matter the cost. (Pay full price for the highest, next one $.99!!) They had 3 fun "manager special packs" with different price ranges. Nice for the indecisive people like me...or if you are on a time crunch and need to get in and out. I found out that most of the staff are teachers on summer break from the local school. And that cool guy Erik is a high school band director the rest of the year. Curious car that I am, I love asking questions and found out they are local owned shop that is only open from Memorial Day thru July 16th. And had 2 shops in the area (3 miles apart) As I was heading to checkout, I noticed they had a sign up to win almost a $3000 huge human tall collection of fireworks (hey, if I win, I'm more than happy to drive back and find some new friends in WI to help me light them off!) This will absolutely be a must stop place every time we happen to drive thru this time of year! I wish I could give them 10 stars!! They staff were all friend on and amazing!!

Fireworks Direct - No, you can't really light off fireworks in their parking lot. We asked.

I ventured in to Venture Fireworks store this evening to pick up a few items for the 4th. From the…read moreoutside, this place looks cool. Very patriotic, with flags along the fence line, and the building and parking lot were well maintained. We were greeted at the front door by a young man, who immediately noticed that we had children with us, and offered them lollipops. Good start. The store isn't all that big, so no worry of getting lost. They have a decent assortment of pyrotechnics for their limited square footage. The store is located not far from the state line, so it's perfectly situated for the neighboring state. The folks at Venture are very nice and attentive. But heres the rub. Not only will you be able to blow up your piece of the neighborhood, be prepared to blow a hole in your budget. Their prices are as steep as Everest is tall. They do offer a 5% discount for paying with cash, but who carries that much cash?! Rumor has it that if you mention the ad that's displayed in the women's bathroom at Pier 500, you can get an additional 5% discount. My advice is, if you're traveling through Missouri on vacation, stop and load up at one of their huge discount warehouses. But if that isn't an option, pay the good folks at Venture a visit. Quick Tip: I'm speaking directly to you, the owner of Venture Fireworks. Dude, cut us a break. Your prices are embarrassing. No joke, embarrassing. You can easily slash your prices by 30%, and make up the difference in volume. You'll still be able to retire fat and happy.

Saves me another 35 min total driving time to the big place down the freeway. My time is worth something. And I have absolutely no problem with the number of high school kids the owner is willing to carry. They have all been super friendly, respectful, and helpful. I don't expect them to be highly professional. I sure wasn't at that age. I am not in any way affiliated with this business. Just appreciate the value in a closer option even if it costs more. They also offer a military discount.

Since it was on my way back to my hotel from the running trail, I figured I'd take a look. I will say if you're running up from New Brighton Blvd and you're a husky guy like me, the hill upon which the Lookout sits seems pretty impressive. If you drive up, you might not even notice it. But once you huff and puff your way there, you're rewarded with a lovely skyline view. In this instance, the view is worth the climb. This is right across the street from a cemetery and there's a nice path along this road - Ridgeway Pkwy -as well as St. Anthony's Blvd. Those two road form the two legs of an approximate right triangle with the Minneapolis Diagonal Trail making up the hypotenuse. It's a nice, level, asphalt path almost all the way around (a little section is concrete) and you do get a little elevation change in so if you want a nice run, about three miles, do that loop and reward yourself with the beautiful view at the end.

From this hill where you can park your vehicle (be aware that you should never actually leave it there), you can look out and see the entire valley containing downtown Minneapolis, North East, and North. It is truly an experience that warrants mentioning, especially on a site like this! There is a walking trail through here that gets a decent amount of traffic, and there are three benches lining the hill side so you can also sit and have a good look. One of my favorite memories from here... The night my ex and I first professed our love for one another, I had parked my car at the very far right spot so as to see the entire downtown skyline lit up. We watched as a thunderstorm rolled across South Minneapolis that never quite reached the northern edge. With my moon-roof open we could smell the rain, and hear the thunder, and the lightning show against the buildings was spectacular!!! It is also a great place to come and watch 4th of July fireworks!!! But get here early... as the years have gone by, more and more people seem to be discovering this place!
