A friend of mine invited me to a Sunday service, and I was happy to check out the church. It was interesting for me being born in raised in New England (only speaking English), to go to a service that was in Russian with live English translation. I loved it! New Generation is a group of believers focused on one thing; Jesus Christ. They are a church who are after God's own heart, and care about helping people have a closer personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus, not religion. It has been almost 3 years since I first visited NG Boston, and I am proud to call this church home, and the people here my family. Their church hall is available for rent for receptions and functions, and other activities, such as CLUE: The Musical, as performed by The Dragonfly Theater, which was what led me out here, to Dedham, one weeknight. According to their website, there is a small parking lot for the Church off Cedar Street, and street parking is also allowed. We managed to find a spot on the opposite side of Cedar, along a line of storefronts, without any trouble, and made our way to the church entrance through their small parking lot. There were a few steps up leading to their regular entrance, but I spied a ramp to the left as an alternative. The hall where the show took place was up and to the left. It was good sized for our crowd of perhaps 35 audience members, and had a stage, so everything was pretty close and we could easily see the entertaining facial expressions of the actors. While there was a handicap accessible individual bathroom available to the left of the stage, a two stall ladies room was located in the basement, which was rather small and there was no lock on the one I entered. While I was in the basement, I noticed a long meeting room and a spacious basement hall that was pretty much open for what you want to do with it, except for the pillars spaced about doing its support thing. If you like, food donations to the Dedham Food Pantry may be deposited in the wicker basket on the bench in the entrance hallway.

I started going to this church my freshman year of College, and I was immediately taken aback by…read morehow relational and caring this church was. People always makes an effort to connect with one another in a meaningful, loving way. There doctrine is extremely Gospel-centered, and they teach whole books of the Bible in order, not shying away from difficult topics. Although this church isn't very big, there is more than enough people to feel like a church family! The worship is also very good. They have a full band (drums, electric, acoustic, bass, keys, viola). The most important piece of worship is there song choice, they're very good corporate worship songs that remind us of what the Gospel truly is. There's a lot of value in their worship, and I really appreciate that. This is also a very diverse church in terms of age and race. Roslindale and West Roxbury are some of the most culturally diverse areas in the state, and the church mirrors that very well. There are also a lot of young families in the church, and the pastors are also heads of young families as well. In the fall and spring, college students also frequent the church (like myself), so there's something for everyone. There is also a good amount of more 'seasoned' people in the church. The fact that everyone in the church is still connected to each other despite the diversity is proof of how much God is working in this church. I'm happy that I'm apart of it!

With its medium sized population, I find it easy to serve on a number of different volunteer teams without any pressure. I definitely recommend CRC to those looking for a new church home or just exploring Christianity for the first time.

Together with two other Dedham churches, they've helped settle refugee families in the community. He's anything but the "stuffed shirt" kind of priest. His sermons are not preached "at you", but draw you in with questions that make you think. The music here is excellent, too. Mainly contemporary, post Vatican II, played on a grand piano and sung by a lovely soprano on Sunday mornings; and a venerable folk group at the Saturday Masses. Lyrics are projected on the wall behind the altar. You won't find any incense here, just the basics, but to me, that's just fine. Few distractions help me focus on what's important. The Sunday Mass at 10am is streamed on YouTube and available later via the link on their parish homepage. Check it out.. better yet, go!

It really shouldn't have taken me so long to right this review. Yelp is the reason we tried…read moreStoryHeights in the first place (thanks, Tracy!). Church websites all look the same: We believe that Jesus is the Son of God...obviously. We teach the Bible...of course you do. I needed information from people who have attended the church to really get a feel for it. We visited on Easter Sunday in 2014, after a few months of church searching, and we didn't need to try any other churches after that. A quick synopsis of the churches we tried before I launch into how SH is different. We tried 4 churches before StoryHeights, and 3 of the 4 we visited twice to give them a fair shot. These churches fell into 1 of 2 categories. 1) The people were friendly, but the church was spiritless (they sang about the joy of the Lord, but no one was smiling). 2) The Spirit was moving through the church, but no one beyond the front door greeter spoke to us. SH hit the perfect combination: Spirit-filled and friendly. Everyone in the church was excited to be there, to be worshipping, to be learning, and to be in fellowship. Everyone was so friendly, too! It wasn't just "Hi, what's your name? Glad you're here." They genuinely want to know about us, what brought us to the area, where we were from... And then each person introduced us to another person, trying to connect us with someone in a similar line of work or from the same part of the county. We felt quite at home! Some of my other favorite things about StoryHeights: --The kids program is fantastic. Our girls love going to church on Sunday (any day of the week we'll take them, really), and we never have to worry that they are well cared for. --The pastors know their stuff, but they don't take themselves to seriously. The sermons are funny and applicable, but they don't water down the Message. They also make a point to truly know everyone in the church. --Whether you show up in blue jeans and a t-shirt or a dress and heels, you're more than welcome. StoryHeights loves everybody, and we love you just the way you are. --There's something for everyone. Whatever your thing is, there's an activity or a group for you. I'm a special educator, so our annual Special Needs Easter Egg Hunt is the perfect way for me to combine two really important areas of my life. My husband thrives on fellowship, so meeting with a Grow Group each week really fuels him. I hope that someone who reads this review finds it helpful. I encourage you to give SH a try. I'm confident that you'll feel at home, too.
