This mural was commissioned in 2019 by local rapper, Big K.R.I.T., to promote his fourth album,…read more"K.R.I.T. Iz Here." K.R.I.T. selected Mississippi Gulf Coast native Michael Roy, artistically known as Birdcap, to do the project. Roy had designed some album covers for K.R.I.T. in the past. It is located on the side of the Arts Center of MS in downtown Jackson. The was one of a series of murals and in addition to be a promotion, it was a gift to the city. Part of the promotion allowed fans to take a picture of the QR code for a chance to win a trip to his album listening party in Atlanta. The project was funded mostly by K.R.I.T, with a donation from The Greater Jackson Arts Council for a scissor lift. Roy expressed that he really enjoyed doing this mural because he does not get to paint in his home state of Mississippi often. The mural depicts K.R.I.T. diving into some water to capture a crown, but there is an alligator on the other side trying to beat him to it. The race is on. Who will win? The mural has a cartoon/whimsical vibe and I like the color scheme that Roy uses. The blues and purples compliment each other very well. It is a very eye catching mural that has the words K.R.I.T Iz Here on a wall behind a walkway on the wall's second level, giving it a countersunk or 3D look. It is a nice addition to the city and blends in perfectly to the artsy area that it is located. Anyway, as with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. You may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, such as the Mississippi Museum of Art, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.

It is the collaborative work of Clint Dear, Jordan Howie, and Scott Allen of A+ Signs and Creative and took them about 2 weeks to complete. The design was selected from an open call of more than a dozen submissions. You will find it on the wall of the Gadow Tyler Law Office overlooking a commercial parking lot. It was funded by the Greater Arts Council and Downtown Jackson Partners. It is becoming an iconic mural for the city and I love the colors and 3D look of the letters. It will definitely draw your attention. The artwork is nice and even though the design is relatively simple, it is still awesome. The mural is starting to show signs of deterioration though. The paint has chipped off in certain spots. The mural is also fading a bit, but the color is still pretty vivid and pops. Parking here is easy. You can pull into the commercial lot that it overlooks, jump out and take a look. And you probably don't even need to pay. There is also free street parking within a very reasonable walking distance. Anyway, as with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. You may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. It is right down the street from the Old State Capital and the Civil Right Museum.

It's known as the site of a key Civil War battle. The Siege of Vicksburg is commemorated at the vast Vicksburg National Military Park, which encompasses the Vicksburg National Cemetery and the restored USS Cairo gunboat. The landmark Old Court House has a museum displaying Civil War artifacts. The Lower Mississippi River Museum features an aquarium and interactive exhibits. Before & during the Civil War, Vicksburg was a significant trading city that benefited from heavy steamboat traffic on the Mississippi River. The city was a major hub for shipping cotton from the surrounding counties. Vicksburg is located on a high bluff overlooking a critical turn in the Mississippi River. It was a strategic stronghold and the decisive turning point of the American Civil War. Its capture by Union forces in 1863 effectively split the Confederacy in 2 and gave the Union control of the entire Mississippi River. President Lincoln nicknamed Vicksburg "key to the S. " during the Civil War when it was at the center of the battle. There were many majestic stately homes in this historic city.

Many of these requests were delayed, denied, or not responded to within the timeframes required under Mississippi public records law. As a result, I have filed or submitted documentation to the Mississippi Ethics Commission, the Mississippi State Auditor, and federal agencies so that there is a formal record outside of the city administrative structure. This review is not written out of anger, but to document my experience attempting to resolve issues through the proper administrative and legal channels. When residents follow the official process but cannot obtain responses or records, it creates a serious transparency and public trust issue. I hope the City of Vicksburg will improve communication, transparency, and public records compliance so that future issues can be resolved at the local level without requiring escalation to outside agencies.

It was painted in 2020 by Visit Jackson's Creative Design Manager, Reshonda Perryman. It is on the back wall of the Old Capitol Inn and faces the front entrance of the Mississippi Civil Rights and Mississippi History Museum. It took Perryman 28 days to complete the piece. The first thing that will probably come to mind when you see the mural is the color. It is very vivid and beautiful. Perryman said "I didn't want to paint portraits in a traditional way." As for the people she selected for the mural, she said "When we came up with the idea for this mural, we wanted to focus on those pillars, so we have David Banner to represent music, Eudora Welty for literature, of course Medgar Evers for civil rights, and we have Thalia Mara for performing arts," I really like this mural. I like how Perryman used colors and the detail she put into each personality. I knew exactly who they were intended to be at first sight. There is limited free street parking on the street right in front of the mural for those that want to park and get a closer look. You could also park in the Two Museums free parking garage during their operating hours. Anyway, as with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. You may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions, such as the Old Capital Building and the Two Museums, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.
