Elementary school program is great, safe, friendly. I would definitely suggest sending your young…read moreones there.
As for the middle school, it is an afterthought... very little attention, planning, care put into our 6th thru 8th graders. They are lumped in with the high school, but without the respect toward their still young development. Teachers are often dismissive and unsupportive of the kids, and it is clear that we are hiring the newest, cheapest available. The junior high athletics program has no structure or interest in DEVELOPING players. It too, is an afterthought both for choosing coaches and in scheduling. Exceptions are with individual coaches.... Coach Lewis with Wrestling and Coach Tutt with football care about these kids individually, care about the programs and coach with passion!!
The high school is a MESS! The "academic advisor" is scatterbrained, anxious, disorganized and causes more confusion and stress for the kids and families than if we didn't have her. Thirty years ago, without the help of internet, our advisor gave better help with scheduling and college advising and career coaching and scholarship help than this lady does! If you want four years of confusion, poorly timed information, alarmist emails and simply incorrect information, then this is your place.
The curriculum at C-S is poor. Quality, lifelong learning is missed and the test scores reflect such. With the exception of a couple (near retirement) teachers, it really feels as if they've hired people that want the job for the weekends, holidays and summers off. The kids are subject to tempers, attitudes that should NOT be coming off of professionals. If it were an adult receiving that kind of treatment and bias, these teachers would be gone.
As for athletics, the JV program receives even less care and attention than the Junior High does! JV football doesn't even get its own coach, rather the kids have to stand by and watch the varsity practice, and go to the varsity games but never play. Last year they had one Partial game. Lots of excuses why this large group of enthusiastic, talented kids have to stand by without getting any playtime, any instruction, but no solutions offered. JV baseball, also nonexistent! Again, same coach as the varsity, so if you are a freshman or sophomore, you are spending all your time "watching" others be taught, watching others play and get individual instruction and WORSE EVEN is that now the board invited two other local schools to join, so that now there are C-S kids sitting the bench, or not even invited to the games, while kids from out of district are playing in every game.
One bright spot is the music program. The band, jazz band, choir is run by a fun, energetic teacher with big hopes and plans, true caring for the kids and great skill. If only the board and the rest of the school would put some support behind her-- do they even mention the band in their pep assemblies, daily announcements, etc? --- that program is class act.
Take warning, if you are aiming for your kid to be a great student, supported academically and into college and career planning. Not the place. If you are hoping your child will learn some athletic skills and experience playing full seasons with a dedicated coach, Not the place.
