Dr. Chernosky sends out pathology to the Cockerell Dermatophatology lab in Dallas Texas (https://www.dermpath.com/) which for most insurance companies is an out-of-network facility. During my visit, I made it very clear that I wanted my sample to be sent to an In-Network lab so that I pay in-network fees. I am insured with large insurance and they have plenty of labs here in Houston that do specialized dermatology pathology work. Dr. Chernosky and her office still sent my sample to the out of network lab. A month later I got a surprise bill in the mail from Cockerbell Dermatopathology for a large amount that would otherwise have been covered or no more than $20 if Dr. Chernosky had used an in-network lab. I liked her as a dermatologist but I will not be going back simply because of the billing practices they use. I will not recommend her to my colleagues and family although I think she has great medical skills. FYI: There are laws that protect you as a consumer against balance billing/surprise billing practices (https://www.tdi.texas.gov/tips/texas-protects-consumers-from-surprise-medical-bills.html). Fight these bills and don't support practices that intentionally do this.

One thing that immediately caught me off guard was that there was a dog in the exam room area that repeatedly barked at my child. At no point were we asked if we were comfortable having a dog present during the appointment. When my child became upset, the nurse asked in a judgmental tone, "Is he scared of dogs?" rather than acknowledging that many toddlers would naturally feel uncomfortable being barked at in a medical setting. The bedside manner from both the nurse and provider lacked the patience, warmth, and sensitivity I would expect when treating a young child. The procedure itself ended up being emotionally distressing for both my child and me, and I left feeling uncomfortable with how the situation was managed. I understand that medical procedures can be difficult, especially with toddlers, but compassion and communication go a long way. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here.

I first saw Dr. Bowden at the end of March and just had a follow-up visit in June. The first thing I really enjoyed was the staff: everyone from the receptionist to the nurses to the doctor himself. Everyone was really personable and willing to help and that has so far remained constant in both of my visits there. Dr. Bowden is extremely nice and helpful and very knowledgeable about what he does. He's also quick but in a way that doesn't make you feel rushed and confused. Maybe it's just me but I'd rather not have a doctor that mystifies me with medical gibberish. I don't want to leave the office having to WebMD things when I get home. I'd much rather have a doctor that tells it like it is, explains it so I have a good understanding of things, and is straight to the point. I do suggest scheduling the earliest appointments possible. They are EXTREMELY quick for the early morning appointments. I usually try to snag their 8:15 appointments and I'm usually done by 8:45AM. She recommended the ladies at Complete Dermatology, and since they were in-network for me I figured 'hey, why not?'. The whole process was super easy! Online booking, even for new patients, and the forms are available to download and fill out ahead of time (score!). They also send you text message reminders before your appointment, and make it easy to reschedule- day for instance if you came down with the flu over the weekend and had to last-minute reschedule an early-Monday appointment. I really appreciated the easy and flexibility with the whole process. The offices are located off Washington, with lots of parking behind the building. I came early in the morning, and since there's a restaurant nearby the parking might be more difficult later on, but 9am it was wide open. a quick walk to the entrance and I was promptly greeted, checked in, and they took my crumpled up paperwork I had previously filled out and thrown in my purse. They have coffee and water in the waiting room, which is great, but I only sat there for a moment before I was called into the back. My appointment was with Dr. Megan, and she was friendly and efficient - two things i appreciate in my medical team. She completed my skin check in less time than I anticipated, made a recommendation to watch one suspect mole for 6-12 months but she was flexible when I asked to just remove it today, since I'd met my insurance deductible and I'd be 80% more expensive in 6 months. Hah! American medical care is quirky, but she helped make it work for me. The whole visit from arriving to leaving was about 30 minutes, including the one mole removal. They called me with the good news that it wasn't cancerous the very next day (whew!), so I wasn't left wondering for long, either. Easy, fast, and efficient service made my experience with Dr. Megan and Complete Dermatology a great visit. I highly recommend coming here for all your skincare needs!

I paid over $200 to be told I had a callus and to have the smallest skin tag snipped off…read more The "callus" wasn't even painful when I came in. I actually thought I had a splinter and just wanted it checked to make sure there wasn't something stuck in my foot. The doctor told me it was a callus, did some scraping and applied some type of acid. I honestly don't know exactly what was done because the procedure wasn't really explained to me. What happened afterward was the biggest issue. I left the office and was in so much pain that I could barely walk for an entire week. I went from having a completely normal, non-painful foot that I simply wanted double-checked to being unable to walk comfortably because of the treatment. Fast forward about a month, and my foot started developing something that I'm not even going to describe . I called the office to let them know what was happening, and I was told that they may have treated me incorrectly and caused a corn??? When I questioned why I should have to pay for a follow-up when I had gone in with a non-painful issue and ended up with a painful problem after their treatment, I didn't feel like my concerns were taken seriously. I ultimately went to a podiatrist for a second opinion. He treated my foot immediately in the office, and I literally walked out of his office minutes later without the pain I had been dealing with... and for $30... Unfortunately, this experience left me extremely disappointed. The lack of explanation, the pain I experienced afterward, and the way my concerns were handled when I called were all frustrating. I would not recommend this office based on my experience.
