This is my third trip to Malaga and never used this service. It took me around central and to the port and around the hills of Malaga. I enjoy walking and saw places I could visit after the ride was over. It was a beautiful day and the ride was around a hour and half with traffic. It was very pleasant and the driver was very careful driving the busy streets of Malaga. I would recommend you take this ride as it will give you an overview of where you may want to see on your own time.

It can get warm and trying under the sun and he gathered us in shady spots while describing the places of interest. He also selected spots where folks who can get tired while walking can sit a while - something that my wife who was a little worried about the long walk really welcomed. These are "free tours" without any public funding that I know of, in that there is no upfront or fixed fee. At the end of the two hour tour you can give whatever you like, or even nothing at all. We gave ten Euros each and our local relatives subsequently told us that was about typical. We'd have been happy to pay more and got a lot more than our money's worth.

Having had one bad experience with this Malaga Airport service where I was left waiting at the…read moreairport for 1 hour awaiting pickup, I decided to give them one more chance...BIG MISTAKE. The whole point of booking a car service is you expect it to be reliable and on time. This time it was an afternoon pickup at home for an airport drop off. I was informed by text 20 minutes before pickup that car would be 2 minutes late. At pickup time I was informed by text that car would be 20 minutes late due to traffic. The car ended up being almost 30 minutes late. The dispatcher on text said there was nothing to be done to avoid this. The driver seemed unhappy on arrival. No "Hello" and no apology. When we asked when he received the booking details he said yesterday. When we asked why he didn't leave extra time for the traffic he said "it wasn't his problem, talk to the boss". When we said we were disappointed with that answer he literally pulled over and put us out of the car with our luggage and drove off leaving us on the sidewalk. This was less than 5 minutes after pickup. I immediately cancelled my return pick up with them. Thankfully I hadn't prepaid for the service. I have never had anything like this experience before, we were both pretty shocked. The dispatcher texted asking where the driver was and I text him that he had left us on the sidewalk. We had one attempted dropped call from him and then...nothing. No follow up, no apology, nothing. We had to call a local cab to get to the airport 90 minutes later than planned. The local Malaga Airport contractor used by Airport Taxi Transfers is CHARLEY TRANSFER. Based on this experience and the previous one, I would never recommend these cowboys to anyone. Totally unreliable, disrespectful and uninterested. Unfortunately this also reflects incredibly poorly on Airports Taxi Transfers that they use such poor operators.

I despise Málaga Airport with a passion. It always feels overcrowded, with wayyyy too many lines…read moreand constant chaos. Passport control is slow and disorganized. Plan to arrive much earlier than you normally would because you truly never know how long things will take. Communication can also be frustrating if you don't speak Spanish. Many staff members speak limited English, and the ones who do aren't always the most welcoming. This airport seriously needs better structure, clearer signage, and take a course on hospitality. If you can, avoid at all costs!!

David and Simone picked us in in a van, and our first stop was the large market in Marbella, where we browsed vendors selling meat, fish and fresh produce. Simone knew many of the vendors, and we purchased the ingredients for our meal, which was to be prepared by the chef at the Hacienda La Herriza Hotel in Gaucin, about an hour up in the mountains from Marbella. The Hacienda is a beautiful boutique hotel in a picturesque mountain setting. Nice bar and killer views. Marco was our chef, a delightful Italian who spoke with a unique mix of Italian and Spanish. He demonstrated preparation for each of five courses, including a salad, two small plates, a main course of seafood paella, and a chocolate desert. We assisted and asked questions, and were rewarded with outstanding food and wine pairings at a table next to the window. We enjoyed our desert on the terrace with coffee, joined by Monty, the hotel's friendly yellow lab. The event was completely unhurried, and we finally left for our trip down the mountain. David and Simone were great guides, and we stopped for photos a couple of times. This was one of the highlights of our trip to Spain, a completely unexpected pleasure. We booked through the resort, I'd recommend booking directly which would probably save a bit of money.

Even those in my family who were not fans of seafood enjoyed this dish. Our group then went into the market and had some samples of olives, almonds and figs. It was excellent. We then travelled for the Charcuterie plate and some vermouth and manzanilla. My choice was the manzanilla but the rest of the family enjoyed the vermouth. The Iberian ham and cheese were wonderful. We walked some more and went to the Malaga-centric food and wine restaurant--Eme Mariano. The red wine was excellent. We paired this with a Gazpachuelo--- fish soup--which was velvety in texture. We followed this with the best croquetas de jamón I have had during my time in Spain. A little further walk and we went to El Chinitas for red and white wine sampling. The fried eels was scrumptious followed by a mini-sandwich of Iberian pork shoulder. Again, excellent. On our tour we had two people from Latvia, two from Wales and six from the US. We shared our food adventures as well as our Spain highlights. I highly recommend this tour!

They will give a lot of advice on which restaurants to go, which are tourist traps, and what to do. I can't recall but we went to 7 different restaurants to try the delicacies of Malaga along with wine.

True story: We ordered drinks at an on-site restaurant, El Rincon, and they came, along with a dish of peanuts. At the bottom of the dish we saw ashes. In short, they served us from a dirty ashtray. I am disappointed in this restaurant. The resort is fine, clean, attractive, and well-maintained, just far removed from the experience of actually being in Spain. I say this as someone who stayed in Torremolinos back in '85, and this is my first return trip to Spain. But be advised, you must travel beyond the confines of the MacDonald Resort to get an authentic Spanish feel, as opposed to the transplanted Little Britain that exists here.
