Gave cashier my money..another gal took money from her to wait on me. With my money in her hand she side tracked to someone else and I had to wait. Prices have always been higher then other stores but service and quality have gone downhill. I won't return. read more

Disgusting management. I will never return to the Clio Vg's again. Shari Allen at the customer service desk was extremely rude. Accused me and my NINE year old child of trying to return $200 worth of the bottle deposit slips and it was under $50. I can read and see the signs posted all over the return area, which they've never enforced before when I have 30-40 worth of returns. She could have simply told me to come back the next day if she wanted to enforce the $25/per day. She didn't, she got very vocal and pointed her finger in my face and said "I've told you this before! You came in here and tried returning $200 worth" I respectfully replied that she has the wrong face cuz I would never and that amount wouldn't even fit in my truck if I wanted to. My kid then walked up behind me with his dad and she pointed in my kids face and said "yup that's him"! as she continued to accuse me. I've never seen such rude and poor management. I waited in line for an hour to return cans and people had WELL over what we brought in and they cashed out just fine. Extremely mean and she had no right to involve a child. Then tried to hide her name tag with the "Register is closed" sign. Her name is SHARI ALLEN! She DESERVES TO BE FIRED!!!! I will never be back and I will be sure everyone knows that Shari Allen is an awful person to have as the first face you see entering the Clio Vg's. read more

VG's is not the cheapest around, but the store is clean (they have the most consistently clean bottle return area I know) and has a pretty decent selection, a good deli and meat department and its own bakery. What makes me come back here though is something you can't get at many other grocery stores: friendly and helpful staff. I know it's probably their policy to greet customers when they walk by, but it just makes you feel so more welcome than in many other stores, where some employees look like they didn't want to come into work that day. A pleasant shopping experience is worth the extra money. The only down side is that their beer selection at this location is rather small (and they stopped carrying Kettle's Spicy Thai chips!!) but I guess they can't be perfect. read more

VG's is my go-to when I can't find the right organic/health food products at the Birch Run Meijer or I'm too tired to graze through the entirely too large and annoying Walmart in town. It's like my own little Whole Foods (even the prices is a bit high) but sometimes you gotta go when you just need to grab some frozen chicken or a stick of butter! (or avoid the uncharming bottom feeders of "Wally world".) Their produce section is great and I love their deli. Their service is also wonderful. Even the kids who work there are well trained and typically do an excellent job of their position. And if I wasn't so lazy, the grocery card perks would be a plus! I get points off of GAS when I shop there. (GEEZ Natasha, start using the dang coupons...) Pluses for me: - Smaller building - no walking for hours just to get to products you need. - Service - everyone says hi and asks if you'd like help. - Better product choices - good produce (alot of local) and more healthy/unique options. - closer to home - less annoying customers to shop around read more

Still the best grocery store in my area. It was supposedly sold by the family that operated all VG Food Centers until about 6 years ago and it is not quite the same. They are higher priced on most groceries, but the service is good and they bag my items and carry them out and help put them in the trunk for me. For a hapless mom with a screaming, tired child, that is still a godsend. Very clean store, nice deli, good small town grocery store service. read more

As the above poster already stated, VGs is not the cheapest place around. Although, they are pricey, the meat is great and the deli is always happy to help you. Either it be slicing your ham or answering your questions. They will help you and with a smile to boot. The store and bathrooms are clean. Everyone there is happy and smiling and they bag your groceries * Gasp! I know! Its almost a thing of the past anymore. What I have also noticed is that most of the people that get hired, stay. I remember some of these folks when I was in my early 20's (needless to say I am older now) and they still are there. Its nice to see a familiar face. Good grocery store, I see same employees often and always friendly. Selection is ok meat department could use improvements. Produce ok, bakery ok, pharmacy slow most of the time. Their deli is ok but the deli subs are gross and make me sick although I use to like them. It's hard to find a stand alone grocery store and I like them. I can get items quick and get out. I would like to see people helping more in aisle's because I can never find what I'm looking for, but I'm like that in all grocery stores. One of the few business I go to in Clio they seem to keep everyone happy. read more

We have shopped here since they opened and have seen things going downhill for about the last 3 years. Afraid to waste money on their nutty donuts since they were so bad about a month ago. Use to buy all the time. This week bought some paczkis & ground bologna to serve to at a get together. Wrong move & very poor advertising for VGs! Paczkis had only about if that a teaspoon of filling, Yes I said TEAspoon! And the ground or should I say chopped bologna had so LITTLE pickle in it, It was awful! My group all made comments as to quality of things not what they use to be at Vgs! Sad marketing! read more

Customer service leaves something to be desired. Several times in the last month I have chosen this location and each time I haven't been pleased. I have been shopping at VG's for many years. Latley I keep asking myself why? Most times I will go in to "try" to get a lottery ticket and do some shopping. The "courtsey" desk always has a CLOSED sign on it. The check express check out lane is often closed too. I went there again today to get a lottery ticket, the NO Courtsey desk had its permanent closed sign on it, no one to operate the express check out again. I decided to get a few items hoping someone would man the desk by the time I was done shopping. Still no luck. I waited 5 min for someone to show up, other customers came, got tired of waiting and left while I was waiting, I finaly had to use the self check out, once again unable to get my lottery ticket. I am decided to do my shopping at Meijer, they ALWAYS have somone who will help you at the courtsey desk it is never closed. VG's you can ring up a NO courtsey, NO service, = NO SALE. You can get the pulse of a business by how clean things are... not just the merchandise they sell, but the bathrooms, the windows, and perhaps the employees? VG's is a well-run business. The employees are happy and they are long-term. You can save a couple bucks by shopping name-brand products elsewhere, but I'm willing to pay a bit extra for meats and produce in a store I trust. read more

This a a great corner store they could clean there shelves better but the workers are kind and the lines wern't to long but I have to say great corner store if all u need is something like deodorant,noodles,milk,and even some clothes but you can go down there and not all the way to like Walmart or target read more

I have lived out here for 30 years... and grew to love Vg' S because VanGuilders owned and cared for their business. Since SPARTAN bought them, I find the food quality poor. Expiration dates are often already past or within a couple days. ...especially dairy. We drive to Birch Run Meijer now unless emergency. ....and VG s is less than 1 mile away.... read more

Born and raised in Clio, I've moved away and back enough to believe this is a great small town grocery store. Not the best prices , but you'd expect that. The employees are always so kind and helpful. If you ask for help they don't just point, they take you there and make sure you find what you're looking for. The meat, deli and bakery are perfectly average and still yummy. Store is always clean when I've gone in, at least once or twice a week. read more
