Meat was short, but plenty showed up when they boxed up left overs. Seriously how do you run out of the two staples in a buffet? They did bring out some soggy hashbrowns. I didnt pay for hashbrowns. I ordered and expected what I ordered. No one piled their plate high wirh food. All we Heard was, well I don't know what to tell you. And some of the laziest wait staff I have ever seen. They mastered standing around though. I really doubt I will ever have another event there. My suggestion is stay on top of your event pkanner.

What an awesome time. 3 days of oom-pah…read moremusic combined with some classic dance tunes, beer and specially made brautwurst makes for a great time. This annual event draws thousands to the beer garden and tent located right behind the historic Germania Mannerchor building. Entry fee is $4, pitchers of beer $6 (Bud products, Shock Top, Killians, Miller, etc.) with Warsteiner or Becks at $12. Everyone is a friend here....sharing their beer, joining with the band for traditional German toast, and allowing the liquid courage to carry them out on the dance floor for a little "chicken dance" or polka. If you are from Evansville you will definitely run into an old high school friend or maybe even the next door neighbor from years ago. Don't forget to grab a brautwurst with sauer kraut. They have their secret recipe that is only used for this festival...some have wanted them to mass produce and sell into grocery stores, but they always decline. Put it on your calendar for next year -- I believe it is always held on the first weekend of August.

Holiday World in the fall is better and worse than Holiday World in the summer. The weather is…read morebetter. The lines are better. A small change in theming is nice. The problem is the staff. The summer workers are gone, so they are left with less staff. Those that are left are not happy for whatever reason. Queuing for the Thunderbird was left up to the guests. We did a good job! The Corn Maze (is that redundant?) was fun and difficult, but a staff member helping people in the maze was grumpy. At closing time for the maze (4:30) a staff member, also unhappy, helped those still in the maze to get out. We cut through the corn, which is what the first staff member was grumpy about! Wanted a turkey bowl at Plymouth Rock Cafe. One line open and crowded. I was halfway through the line when they ran out of turkey. It would be 45 minutes before they had more. Chicken and dumplings it is, then. They were barely OK. Although it was a fresh batch, it was barely warm. The stuffing was OK. The corn had a lot of pepper on it. They never announced the situation with the turkey. Once again, we were on our own, and we did fine getting the word out. When the turkey did run out, there was 15 minutes of inactivity while the staff tried to figure out what they were doing. A few guests at the front of the line were visibly angry. It is 2023 after all. They're out of turkey? Switch gears. Life will go on. Should they have run out? Probably not. You train for that. I've never been able to get excited about Holiday World food. The drinks are still free. The fountain at Plymouth Rock Cafe was not cleaned well, and you can taste it. Blech. Parking is still free. Sunblock is still free. The park is immaculately clean. But prices have increased. The park is still four roller coasters surrounded by state-fair-type rides. There will be a new family-friendly boomerang-type roller coaster next year. You get to sit in a potato. Really.

If you've ever watched "A League of Their Own" (You have, haven't you?), then you're already…read moreacquainted with the Huntingburg League Stadium, a gem of a baseball stadium located in Southern Indiana's Huntingburg, Indiana. I was an extra in the 1991 film and got to be on-site the 2,783-seat stadium that really only sees action from June-August during the year and plays host to the Ohio Valley League team the Dubois County Bombers along with the local Southridge Raiders (high school team). The stadium also has a gift shop that is open during the June-August period. Columbia Pictures did do some needed upgrades to the stadium when shooting in 1991. In 1995, HBO also filmed "Soul of the Game" at the stadium. I have fond memories of this film shoot. In my 20s, I did a number of extra and small-role type appearances in locally made films and this particular shoot was one of my favorites. Due to the location and the size of the stadium, you were practically guaranteed to have at least a modest encounter with one of the film's celebs. Admission is free to look, though obviously there's a charge for actual games. The stadium encountered some storm damage in 2019. Being a stadium that was originally built in 1894, you definitely have some expected accessibility issues. These weren't addressed during upgrades for obvious reasons (they wouldn't have been period appropriate for the film). However, there are some accessibility considerations and the townsfolk are friendly enough that they'll certainly try to make it work. Huntingburg is a wonderful little town that I highly recommend. It's like an oasis in this part of the state - it's a super friendly town and there's an obvious desire for tourists and visitors. That's definitely not true in some of the surrounding cities (which will remain unnamed). I definitely also recommend trying to catch a DC Bombers game - they always dress vintage and the games have a wonderful spirit to them.
