Coming from both directions on Route 12 it is just around a curve so it can come up quick, but there is a nice big sign you can't miss. The parking lot isn't huge, but has space for cars as well as trailers and seemed to have been paved fairly recently. Past the parking lot there is a gravel road you can use to access the canoe launch. The facility has bathroom (outhouse), a picnic shelter, a fishing area with a fire pit, and the canoe launch. There is a nice paved trail that you can walk to get to the fishing area. I was very impressed with how well maintained the area was.

I also wanted the canopy of a pontoon boat to keep us out of the sun if we wanted and assumed fishing would be allowed only from their fishing boats (no canopies). When I called they said that fishing was allowed from some of their pontoons. As she put it "the older ones, but they're still nice with a little smaller engines." I booked one of those. I knew we would want to explore the chain of lakes, but might want to fish some too. It's not the easiest place to find, but when we got there and parked, the lady mowing the grass came over and told us where to park and meet her at the "Tiki Bar." She had plenty of information for us, a map, some likely fishing spots and gave us a quick tour of the boat. They take good care of their boats and want you to do the same. The boat was in great shape. I wouldn't have guessed it was one of the "older ones." The engine had plenty of power to explore. We went on a Thursday (yesterday) and the lakes were not crowded at all. The four hours flew by as we were having a great time exploring and doing a little fishing. If I had to complain about something it was the broken fuel gauge on the boat. It's a little unnerving not knowing how much gas you have when you're in the middle of a lake. They weren't trying to gouge us for gas (you pay for what you use when they fill up upon return). I think this is probably a pretty common problem with boat fuel gauges.

TRANQUIL KAYAKING ADVENTURE FULL OF WILDLIFE & FAUNA The…read moreHubby and I love to Kayak. We were exploring options and wanted a longer Kayaking Adventure than the average 2 hours or less, starting and ending at the same place. We were up for a "challenge". Found River Guide Kayaks on Groupon on the very last page: Kayaking for 2 people, 2 Kayaks: $49. Sign us up! Richmond, Il is located in the North/West section near the Wisconsin border. You can book your trip online using the Groupon coupon code. It's normally $60 per person. Again, we would've never discovered this place without Groupon. Due to the limited Kayaks available, there are 2 launch times: 10am & 11am, 10 Kayaks per launch. The Glacial Park Landing site is marked by a sign. However, slow down and LOOK for the sign. We missed it and ended up turning around in the farmer's driveway. We also reached out to Tim the Owner by cell who called us back within a few minutes but, we figured it out the meeting site by that time. There are 2 Guides who meet you at the pick up site/Glacial Park. Leave your car parked here and bring only the essentials with you. The Guides will give instructions on how to Kayak (just paddle or not), if the River is running high or low. You will then be piled into into a van or truck where you will be driven to the actual launch site. There are indoor porta potties at both sites. Because the trip will take at least 3 hours, use the facilities. Hold your breath, cause they are super stinky. We worn our swim suits under our regular clothes and flip flops. We brought a back pack to stuff them in. There is a cut out in the back of the Kayak for storage. We brought a few snacks and water bottles. There is a water bottle holder in the front of the Kayak. Bring 2 per person. The Nippersink Creek is almost 7 miles long. It zigs and zags with very small rapids which are not even classified because they are so small. But, super fun to navigate. Nippersink is a relatively shallow creek FULL of wildlife! We saw a large selection of bids, fish, butterflies and even Beavers building their home. The terrain does change as you head south on the creek. You will pass 5 Bridges before you come to the exit. The Guides will help you out of the Kayak at this site. The Hubby and I did some medium paddling and also drifted, it took us 3 hours. Other Kayakers took longer than us as they did less paddling, you have up to 5 hours to finish. Bring your cell phone to take photos along the way. Either store it in a ziploc bag or plastic container, you will get a little wet from the drops from the paddles. Also, use your sunscreen. Relax and enjoy your trip, it's amazing! P.S. You will most likely not see ANY civilization along the Creek, just a few fishermen. Don't panic, the Zombies did not attack the World while you were gone ;)

Hours tend to vary and selections are limited... but this place is indispensable…read more They carry your necessities like bagged ice, firewood, firestarters, batteries, canned goods, and bait. They also have more esoteric offerings like fishing gear, gizmos, and flimsy kids toys. Importantly, they rent our paddle boats, motors boats, kayaks, and canoes. The staff will make sure you have life vests and they haul them out to the water for you. I recommend taking a book and some sandwiches up the Fox River for a few hours, it's the fastest way to leave land behind without owning a boat of your own. Also, in the event you get rained out while camping at the park, Gill's also cook burgers and have a shelter to eat them in. ;)

She demanded my ID and told me she was going to call the police if I didn't remove the review. I told her that, no, I would not give her my ID and I also would not remove the review. I told her she is welcome to the call the police, I'm not breaking the law. She told me I'm trespassing. I then reminded her that I paid $10 for the privilege of sitting here and being berated. She said, "I'll give you the $10 back." She also pointed out that I don't have a license for my canoe.
