Grandfathers, kids in strollers and those big enough to walk, and nicely-dressed middle aged women all drift in, say hi to the woman behind the counter, and get the day's supply of focaccia, breadsticks, or country loaves.
The local "prodotti tipici" cookies are called "canestrelli di castagne" --- small chestnut cookies called 'baskets" for no apparent reason. The versions sold here are great --- tender but not mushy or crumbly, with a nice chestnut flavor.
Some of the country breads are a little dry --- but most of the offerings here are delicious.
