I am not one to write negative reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience in hopes that…read moreit will help a future traveller looking to stay at the Amrâth Hotel Frans Hals. My wife and I booked a two night stay here about 48 hours before our arrival to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was a non-refundable booking, but with less than 48 hours from arrival, we figured it was an easy decision. What we hadn't thought of were travel disruptions getting to Amsterdam. We got bumped from the flight we booked and, being a holiday weekend with completely full flights, we were not able to get to Amsterdam for a couple of days. We immediately emailed the hotel and asked if we could move our reservation a few days in order for us to get a new flight. They were fully booked, but offered to refund the second night stay. They later emailed back and said they made a mistake and would no longer refund any of our pre-paid $370 USD payment. While I understand they want to uphold their cancelation policy, sometimes force majeure happens and a little bit of understanding and customer service can go a long way in helping disrupted travelers who have their plans affected through no fault of their own. In the end, a USD $370 bill from Amrâth Hotel Frans Hals truly rubbed salt into our wounds for our anniversary. We made a good faith effort to let them know we missed our flight and tried to reschedule. Their management could not have cared less. They just wanted our money. We do plan to come to Haarlem again, but you can be sure we will not give this place another dime of ours. Truly poor customer service (which starts at the top from management), but more importantly, a complete lack of compassion for a hotel. This is my first 1 star review I have ever given a hotel, and I hate to sound disgruntled, but I highly encourage you to look for another hotel in Haarlem that cares for their guests. The Amrâth Hotel Frans Hals absolutely does not. Stay away.

The person at the front desk (the morning of June 5th) made it possible for the room to be ready much earlier than the check-in time just because they are so nice (I didn't even have to ask if it were possible). They recommended a great Italian food place nearby that was open early to calm down and unwind while I waited for the room to be ready. They even upgraded me. I am really grateful to all the staff for being kind and the hotel is cute and close to everything. I'd stay here again.

Anyway, yes, this hotel isn't right next to the canals. However, it's still relatively easy to get into the city center. You can walk 8-10 minutes to take the 14 Tram (20mins) or a bus (takes longer). You can rent one of the hotel's bikes. Each rental lasts for 24 hours. First time rental is about 16 euros with a few euros for insurance. After that, additional rentals are discounted at 13 euros. A bike ride to the city center is about 25 minutes. All those options are not bad at all especially public transit. Otherwise, all the hotel staff we've interacted with have been helpful. Rooms and public areas were tidy and modern. Compared to staying in the city center (I have a few years ago), it's much more quiet. I'd say give this hotel a chance if you want quiet, modernity, and easy access to transit.

Had a very good experience here at Holiday Inn Amsterdam…read more It's a good location if you have kids. It's right across the street from Amstelpark, which has a bunch of kids playgrounds as well as a fun mini amusement park for kids that has about 5-6 rides (1 euro per ride). The tram stop and metro stop are right down the street, so access to all transportation is super easy to get to the heart of the city. The room was very clean and modern, bed was comfy. They had a crib free of charge they provided for our baby. They even had an angry birds game mounted on the wall in the elevator for you to play a quick game as you go up or down the elevators. The staff at the front desk was super professional, friendly, and was there to help us out. They had great information and brochures for tourists, seemed to know the answers to most of our questions, and even provided umbrellas for us to borrow (much appreciated because it was a rainy few days there). Would definitely recommend to anyone staying in Amsterdam!

They put my partner and I in rooms next to one another on the 8th floor. When I opened the door, the room was clean and well put togehter. Plenty of outside light came in. I did notice that the furniture is old, and has wear marks on the edges. There are plenty of places to store stuff and for international travelers, a bit more would be nice. The bathroom was very clean and spacious and the shower was fairly new and worked great. The sink was clogged up and did not drain well and the air conditioner was not working at full capacity. After sitting in the room for a few minutes I got an email asking me for feedback, so I gave a 6 and told them about the problems. Within a minute the desk clerk called and asked me what was up, I told her and that day everything, plus one other thing was fixed! I was impressed by that. The breakfast is included and is VERY NICE! They offer an omlette/egg station where a cook makes what you want with a variety of fillings. There are FRESH living/growing herbs like basil, etc that you can pick and put on your food. Folks don't know about this as I was the only one (New Yorker and American) to use these delicious herbs. The breakfast has great coffee, meats, cheeses, sweets, salads, and FRESH baked breads. I would rate the breakfast a 5 of 5. I would have given the place a 4.5 stars if that was possible. Removing the half for the poor furniture and break downs. The staff were ALL awesome, nice, friendly, very charming. The woman at the breakfast area was super kind. Our waitress WAS OFF THE HOOK cool. She is from south america and took great care of us. The restaurant food for dinner is good, some interesting things to eat. I have posted pics and would stay there again for sure. Not sure why this place got a bad rap from other reviewers, which I read before I went, so my expectations were on the low side. To the management - start to upgrade the furniture, carpets, perhaps provide power converters more so. There is ONE US converter in the bathroom, why not one by the bed side.

This is a wonderful hotel, right in the center of Den Haag (or centrum as the locals call it). I…read morestayed here for 3 weeks while completing a summer law program in Den Haag, and enjoyed every single moment of it. The hotel has a few anomalies, for example, while the entrance is on a popular shopping street, guests have to take a lift up to level 3 (no help with bags is available at check in or checkout), where they enter the lobby/cafe/breakfast room/lounge. Yes, it's all one room! At my check in, I exited the lift right into the middle of the breakfast crowd and stood there like a bewildered little sheep searching for the check in desk. I was approached by a young lady who introduced herself as Jaqueline (?) and showed me to a makeshift desk against the wall. To me, this was the downside of the hotel - the entire lobby/cafe/restaurant/breakfast crowd can see your bags on display and your ongoing check in. But our check in was smooth, and we were given a special discounted rate for breakfast since we had booked an extended stay (10 euro instead of 15euro). We took our bags to our rooms (we booked 2 rooms beside each other), which were fantastic. The rooms were large, with a sink, microwave, separate toilet and bath (fantastic), large queen bed, mirrors, and PLENTY of storage space! The funniest thing about the room was that the shower area did not have a door, just a curtain! So if you share with a friend, your utter nakedness will only be separated by a thin curtain!! Just beware if you're staying here for the purposes of a business visit - there is no desk, just a coffee table. I thought this was slightly impractical initially but after I surveyed the crowd, I realized that more families stayed here than business travelers. The breakfast/lounge area is open, with colorful tables scattered around, and a special kiddy section with toys. Morning brekkie is very good, but no other meals are served during the day, and there is no room service. You will not be deprived however, because the moment you step out of the hotel, there are about 50 places you can eat at or takeaway from (or try the local delivery service - Thuisbezorgd - who will deliver to the lobby from one of their listed restaurants). The hotel is right next to the bus stop that takes you directly to key areas in Den Haag such as the Peace Palace (Vredespaleis) and the beach (Scheveningen). The lobby is a nice place to hang out if you have some free time - free tea and coffee is on offer 24 hours so you can walk down and grab a cappuccino, some green tea, or even Rooibos (they had a great selection). Alternatively, you can get a drink from the bar, but you have to wait for the staff to pour it for you as there were no bartenders. The staff is young, energetic, willing, and friendly. They are quick to help, give useful advice, and work tirelessly. I saw them juggle breakfast duties, check ins, room issues, guest enquiries, travel advice, everything! I was really impressed with the overall service. During my 3 week stay, I grew attached to the hotel, got acquainted with the staff, fell in love with Den Haag, and had the most wonderful time. The Suite Novotel has an unpretentious ambiance, and tends to embrace a more casual style (as opposed to the regular Novotel, the Sofitel, or even the Pullman). In spite of this, it still maintains high hygiene and customer service standards.
