Despite decades of dental visits every three months, not a single dentist or hygienist ever suggested there might be a real fix for the problem. I was originally referred to Gulf Coast Periodontics & Implants because of a pocket that had developed under the gums at the rear of my mouth. The staff recommended a scaling procedure for that area. It required Novocain and was much more intense than a standard cleaning, but the results were amazing. My mouth had never felt so clean, and the hygienist's skill impressed me so much that I actually started flossing regularly for the first time. Even more remarkable was Dr. Sweidan's observation of my receding gum line at the front. To my surprise, he told me it could be corrected with a graft--something I had resigned myself to living with for life. I went forward with the procedure, and while the two weeks of recovery required some adjustments with eating and cleaning, the results were absolutely worth it. A month later, my mouth feels healthy and strong, and I could not be happier with the outcome. From start to finish--front desk, billing, hygienists, and Dr. Sweidan himself--everyone I encountered at Gulf Coast Periodontics & Implants went above and beyond. My dental insurance only covered a small portion, but honestly, even if I had paid the full cost out of pocket, it would have been worth every penny. I am truly astounded that after decades of cleanings and consultations, no one had ever mentioned that my issue had a solution until now. I will be recommending this office to every dentist and hygienist I see in the future, and I encourage anyone with gum concerns to visit Gulf Coast Periodontics & Implants. Needless to say I'll have to pay out of pocket for new x-rays because they billed my insurance for x-rays that can only be done annually through my insurance and no other Dentist will accept those film. I intend to call Aetna and let them know what they did. Everyone inside is very friendly, and one thing that really impresses me is how prompt they are. When you make an appointment at 2:30 in the afternoon, you will be in the dentist's chair by 2:30. They don't overbook or keep you waiting long, and I really appreciate that. This has been my experience after over half a dozen visits. My first visit was for a cracked tooth, and while we had to make a plan for a follow-up visit, my dentist took a moment to grind down one edge just so it wouldn't keep scraping my tongue. I loved that attention to detail. In other cases, I had some minor work done and they always say what they are doing and explain things along the way. Not once have I ever felt any major pain even after a root canal and extraction. One really cool thing I like here is when X-rays are done, they have screens in the office so you can instantly see the results. It's pretty neat to see a close-up of your teeth and actually see where there may be problems, inflammation, etc. I've never had that experience at a dentist before. On top of that, they have TVs mounted to the ceiling so you can distract yourself while they are doing work.

(That's when they slide the probe down next to your teeth to see how far down it can go). I told them that we could skip that part and go straight to the cleaning but the hygienist was adamant and left to get the dentist. I waited 28 minutes and when no one came back. I decided to leave. All I wanted was a cleaning and I won't be pressured into an uncomfortable procedure. I've had dentist skip this procedure before so I know it's not mandatory, but after waiting for a half hour, and then possibly having to debate the dentist on what I'm comfortable with as a patient, I decided this wasn't a good fit.

I had a cavity and I was also told I had a filling that was not sitting right. I was told after I came in to get my cavity fixed, then I could make the next appointment. When I showed up for my appointment for the cavity, was in the waiting room for about 30 minutes. I was brought back and waited about another 30 minutes to get numbed up. I was told the dentist would be with me shortly. It was about 40 minutes and I finally got up and was looking around for anyone to talk to. I found an assistant on her phone in the room next to me and asked her when the dentist would be in to start the work and she said "honey, I don't know" in a condescending tone. She got up and walked away and a minute later the dentist walked in and I heard her under her breath say "alright you twisted my arm". The dental work took less than 5 minutes. I understand if a business is understaffed, things are difficult. But please don't overbook if you won't be able to service your patients in a timely manner.
