Recently, we were in this store and my friend picked out a pair of jeans to try on. The retail worker was headed to the dressing room to put the jeans in there when we witnessed the sales manager, Tani, approach the retail worker and whisper something to her before handing her a larger size of the same jeans to put in the dressing room.
This behavior was not only extremely inappropriate, but it was also hurtful and disrespectful. This kind of assumption can be damaging to someone's self-esteem and confidence. My friend was embarrassed and uncomfortable with the situation, and it made the shopping experience unpleasant for both of us.
Furthermore, it was particularly inappropriate for Tani to imply that my friend needed a bigger size than she had chosen for herself. Many women have body issues and insecurities, and this kind of unsolicited comment can be extremely hurtful and trigger negative emotions. It is not the place of sales staff to make assumptions about customers' body sizes or offer unsolicited comments.
When we confronted Tani about this behavior, she did not apologize or acknowledge the issue at hand. Instead, she continued to justify her actions by saying that they do that for everyone, which is not an acceptable response.
