They have a great selection of wines and ports. We started with a ruby port and a Madeira. The service was great and both were very good. They brought out some popcorn as well which was nice. We then had a 20 year tawny port that was excellent. It is a very comfortable place and great for couples or groups. Then we did not eat, but saw them preparing a meat and cheese plate. They put so much care into and it looked fabulous. Definitely worth a visit.

They have flights, including one that's 15 euros where you let them know what you're looking for and they pick out the 3 bottles, which is very neat. I told them I was in Porto mainly to try Port wines, and didn't have much familiarity with other, non-fortified Portuguese wines, and would love an intro flight, but no roses. Got a mini-lesson in the wine regions of Portugal, along with a wonderful green wine, a great Duoro valley red, and a truly fantastic red from Alentejo, a wine region I had not previously heard of, but immediately went on my radar the rest of the trip. (They also sell bottles; I bought a bottle.) Note, they said they only guarantee they'll do flights (as opposed to full-priced full glass pours) after 4 pm, but if they aren't busy for the food lunch rush, they'll do them earlier in the day (on a rainy Thursday in January they were more than happy to.) Actually liked the place so much, I came back the next afternoon and had another glass of a different Alentejo red - they only had one open for tasting in the price range that fit the "intro"-priced wine flight, so I spent... I believe 11 euros on a glass of a fancier bottle they recommended. It was also quite good, though I think I actually preferred the first one. Also had one glass of a very reasonably priced tawny Port while I was there - they had several, but obviously, I was already well into my plan to taste Port directly from all of the nearby tasting rooms across the bridge, so I just picked one here. (Unsurprisingly, it was also quite good.) They do also sell food, but I can't comment on it. Great place for quick wine tasting, though.

I find the American country music playlist pretty amusing. The service is polite and the server spoke English well enough to explain where this wine came from, pairings for thiss and that wine, etc. I was only there for wine tastings, and maybe a snack to pair with. Good stuff overall. I love the menu! It's very explanatory; you could spent 30 minutes reading and absorbing some of the info about Portuguese wines, so definitely keep it after you order to browse and read. Pro tip: They have spit buckets. Ask for one and use it. Can taste more wines with less intoxication. Only miss was that they served me the aged white ports, which are chilled, a few minutes before the desert things that I was pairing them with. This let them warm up a bit before I could pair them with food, especially since I asked for small pours. Bathrooms: Spacious, bougie, clean, and functional.

But by far our favorite evening was spent on the banks of the Duro river, drinking wine and ordering small plates of food at Wine Quay Bar. We got really lucky to get a primo spot overlooking the Douro at the wine bar; it was picture perfect. With the help of the server we ordered a Douro Valley wine - a dry, fruity white. It was tastilicious. This place had an all appetizer menu -- like tapas in Spain. We had olives, a sublime soft sheep's milk cheese, bread, sardines in tomato sauce and pigs feet ... indescribably succulent, all of it. This place is a no-brainer for some of the most amazing food and wine in one of the most beautiful places one could enjoy them.

It's tight and lively, but that's part of the charm -- the constant flow of people creates a bustling, energetic atmosphere that makes for excellent people-watching. We ordered the codfish bao, goat cheese with honey, and octopus. The codfish bao was a creative dish that worked surprisingly well. The soft bao bun contrasted nicely with the flaky bacalhau, giving the classic Portuguese ingredient a modern spin. The goat cheese with honey was simple but well balanced -- creamy and slightly tangy cheese paired with just the right amount of sweetness. The octopus was the highlight of the meal. Tender, well seasoned, and cooked exactly how octopus should be, with great flavour and texture. To drink, we had a dry white port, which paired nicely with the seafood and felt like the perfect Porto choice. Service was attentive and relaxed, with friendly banter that added to the casual atmosphere. Overall, Orpheu is less about space or quiet dining and more about soaking in the energy of Porto while enjoying well-executed food and drinks. If you like lively outdoor dining and a bit of urban theatre with your meal, it's a great place to stop.

Funny enough, on our walk up to Graham's, we passed other tourists who told us it was the worst experience and not to go. We should have listened. The dining room was completely empty. We stood at the entrance while several servers walked past us without a word, and the host passed right by on his way back from the restroom without even looking at us. When we finally asked a server how to get a table, she told us to just wait. A young man with an earpiece then came over, looked us up and down, and asked if we had a reservation, saying they were booked. The room was still empty. He offered tapas at the bar instead, walked us over quickly, handed us a menu, and left without telling us where to sit. We seated ourselves and waited, but no one came to take an order or acknowledge us. So we left. Graham's port is excellent, but Vinum's hospitality falls far short of the brand. Paying guests deserve at least a greeting and a straight answer.
