Our Saturday adventure trip kicked off with a visit to one of the most unique and thought-provoking…read moreplaces we've ever stumbled upon The Museum of Everyday Life in Glover, Vermont. Tucked away in what looks like a roadside barn, this quirky little gem is free to the public and runs on a beautifully simple honor system: turn on the lights when you arrive, and turn them off when you leave. The museum is an ongoing "cabinet of curiosities" dedicated to celebrating the beauty and meaning in ordinary, everyday objects. From toothbrushes and safety pins to matches and dust, each exhibit is carefully curated with a mix of history, philosophy, humor, and poetry. It makes you stop and really see the things we often overlook. One of the most interesting facts we learned was about the humble pencil ... how it evolved over time and the crucial role it played in everything from education to art. Another standout was the exhibit on safety pins, which delved into their invention and surprising cultural symbolism. The atmosphere is quiet, intimate, and almost meditative. It invites you to slow down and engage with the ordinary in a totally extraordinary way. There are no flashy signs, no loud crowds ... just you, the exhibits, and a sense of wonder. If you are ever near Glover, this museum is well worth a visit. It was the perfect, whimsical way to start our day of exploring, and it left us seeing the world with a little more curiosity and appreciation.

It's an old brick farmhouse where the woman who owns the place, a long-time local, has collected books for decades and converted all the rooms on the first floor into a shop. Feel free to chat with her in the kitchen as she's very friendly and interesting. The selection of books is extensive and well-organized. It is jam packed with good stuff so plan on spending a while. She is only open for a 3 hour slot from 2-5pm Tues-Sat so you have to plan ahead. I used to go in there as a little kid and never get sick of going back when I am visiting Vermont. It feels like a remnant of an era since lost--pure Vermont. She also has a decent Vermont history section if interested.
