It's my go-to spot for the insane number of Dominican bananas I need to eat. That said, if you really, really need an out-of-season fruit/veg, expect to pay a little more for it.
The women who have been selling the fruit for several decades are always incredibly polite and helpful. They also always tell me I'm handsome and should be married, which feels nice and makes me buy more fruit, so that's a win-win.
It's worth noting that the market is a no-frills kind of place. Don't expect any fancy displays or a place to wash your hands or any way to use your credit card. But that's part of its charm. It feels authentic and down-to-earth, which is refreshing in this day of touchless credit cards, TikTok, hand sanitizer, and cashiers at other places who don't tell me I'm handsome and should be married.
The tortas are nice and tasty and it's a pleasant enough spot to have a coffee. The location of the market is also enviable, right in the heart of the neighborhood at the intersection of a few major streets.
