I can't say enough about Venture Tattoo. Anthony did a custom half-sleeve for me. It was my first tattoo, but won't be my last. Anthony is an artist, plain and simple. He's an unbelievable talent who is also soft spoken and humble about his work. I know all the artists there are excellent, but if you're looking for something big, he's awesome. He worked for 6 hours on my arm. Got it done in one session, and because he is so good, pain was minimal and after care was painless (which surprised me). He was so professional and explained everything while taking great care in keeping everything sterilized. She didn't even utter a squeak while he pierced her ears, one at a time. This review is based only on Venture's piercer, Jeff Clark. He is BOMB DOT COM. I saw him last year for a piercing and I made my way back this year to do it again. Very rarely do you come across genuine people, but Jeff is just an awesome person. He's so fair and makes the piercing process quick and (almost) painless. I know Venture has had tons of endorsement from their tattoo artist Jr Diaz being on VH1's show Black Ink Crew, but I've never had the pleasure of being tattooed here. Maybe in the future! Highly recommend...I took my 8 year old daughter there for ear piercing with Jeffrey. Everything went well as expected. Sterile technique, cleanliness of the shop, high grade earrings metal and price. Of course its not free of charge for piercings with earrings purchased like the mall. But you get to have experience personal to pierce your child ears, disposable needles, lesser chance for infection and evenly position pierced. I researched artists like crazy before landing on Eris at Venture. I searched Yelp, Google, instagram, facebook ect. I wanted a black and grey artist with crazy good detail, deep blacks, dark/gothic designs, and a creative eye to design and create their own work of art. I am super picky and Eris nailed all of it. The other artists JR. and Joni have amazing portfolios as well, I would have been happy to work with either of them as well. Eris's designs are original and one of a kind, he incorporates what aspects of the tattoo you want, but also puts his own artistic twist on it. I am currently working on a whole arm sleeve and I wouldn't trust any one but Eris. My first session was approximately 8 hours, Eris worked quickly but with a ton of attention to detail. We had a few breaks to stretch, grab a drink, make a phone call, all in all the experience was very enjoyable. Believe it when people say, tattoo's are addictive. Now to the Venture Tattoo shop 1. Super Clean...I mean SUPER CLEAN, I have not been in a cleaner more well kept shop 2. Super Organized, no tools, papers, trash anywhere left out. 3. Very welcoming, from my initial consultation to the day of tattoo 4. Not a revolving door tattoo/piercing shop, pretty much appointment only, they truly care about the quality of their work...not just quantity of people they can move through in a day. 5. All the artists are really cool, easy to talk to, and a fun environment to be in. One word to the wise...they get a ton of emails for work...be patient, and they will get back to you. The artist that work here do amazing work. I'll simply state the facts of my experience with venture artist Anthony. Booked a November appointment in September. Paid the $200 deposit and sent in several reference photos. Got a follow up call to confirm the appointment. Everything seemed smooth. I'm told my appointment will be from 10am-4pm. The day before the appointment I'm asked to come in later (around noon) as he has something to do in the morning. I come on time basically to talk about the same thing we spoke about in September. After he works on the stencil, he tattooed me from 2-4pm. About 40% of the original concept we spoke about and stated we'll need another session. His website states a "big session" is $1000 and last 4-6 hours. His words not mine. My tattoo was 2 hours and he charged me $1000. Not complaining because the work was excellent. I had already booked a second session later on in the month expecting 2 sessions after the consultation. The day before the second session comes and I'm pumped to finally finish my piece, he calls and cancels. Tells me "something came up" and wanted to rebook. I state no problem, he books me for the next day. 2 hours before that appointment, he texts and cancels again, stating he'll call me tomorrow to rebook. I haven't received a call. I've emailed with no reply. No response on any messages through social media. Now I have a half finished tattoo. I'll be going else where to get my piece finished. read more

My husband and I found Anthony J. and Venture Tattoo when searching for fantastic realistic black & gray tattoo artists in the Chicago area who would be able to do tattoos in memory of our daughter. When we found Venture Tattoo, we fell in love with everyone's work and knew that they were the ones who would be able to do a fantastic job. We emailed Anthony some ideas for tattoos, and about 10 days later, we were excited to hear that he would be interested in meeting up with us to go over designs and set up an appointment. A few things about the shop in general: The shop is so clean and organized (seriously - it's cleaner than most doctors' offices I've been in). The artists are all fun yet very professional, polite and are perfectionists when it comes to doing their artwork. The artists are booked out weeks and in some cases months out, but it's because they're all FANTASTIC and are in high demand. You definitely get what you pay for with them. Anthony kindly booked both our tattoos for the same day for a few weeks later. The day of the appointment, he sat with me and went over the design making it personalized for my daughter while also incorporating his own style. He made sure his entire station was clean and sanitized from start to finish. After my tattoo, he did the same process with my husband. Our tattoos look amazing. I've read all the reviews and was beyond excited when I stopped in the other day. There was one person getting a tattoo and the other artists were sitting there eating and chatting. I walked in, all eyes went to me, one very blatantly rolled their eyes and approached the desk. Now, side note, I am not new at this, but I've always gone in with a design ready to go. This time I wanted to collaborate with an artist. I walked in simply wearing shorts and a tee shirt. I have no visible tattoos and no piercings. Back to the man at the desk, who wouldn't give me his name, even after I introduced myself. I asked what was the best way to schedule an appointment to talk with an artist to see if we could come up with a piece, or, if someone was available now, we could talk. Again...only one person was getting inked at the time. Without making eye contact, the guy hands me business cards, tells me to email the artists, and then says "but no one will be available for a year". I remained polite, thanked him, and held out my hand to shake his. He wouldn't even shake my hand. Ok. If you're going to judge me simply by how I look, and treat me like dirt, you don't deserve my business. read more

(If you want very cheap crap then you should should probably go someplace else...because they only do the highest quality work here!!!) I got my first tattoos at Venture from my new hero Joni and it was worth every penny, I love this art beyond words! And absolutely worth the price!!! ...Shouldn't something permanent on your body be done careful and well and totally worth the price?! If you agree then I highly suggest this place! UPDATE: Since then I've gone back to completely both sleeves and part of my back. But don't just take my word for it, go to their Instagram pages and let your eyes be the judge. Took our baby daughter to get her ears pierced here and I have to say I highly recommend this place! Jeff did our daughter's piercing and he was so nice and sweet and walked us through the whole process of the piercing and made us feel a lot calmer about the whole process. Jeff is very knowledge and professional and the entire studio including the piercing room was soooo clean and hygienic and he even sterilized the earrings that we chose for our baby. They have a whole selection of baby safe earrings to choose from as well and are medical grade titanium so no need to worry about having allergic reactions.
