Oh deer! This isn't just a place for venison. They also sell all kinds of Texas tchotchkes to take home with you. If you need some candles or Texas themed kitchenware, this is a good spot for you. They have a wide variety of Texas-themed cookbooks that tell you how to cook venison. They have a lot of merchandise that comes from the Fredericksburg area, things like jellies, German mustards, spicy relishes. Not really deer. Their jerky selection seemed to be a bit overpriced and looked to be pretty tough stuff. I was mainly just browsing. When I saw "Venison World" I thought that you'd be able to back your truck up to a door in the back and unload your deer carcass and have them process the meat into sausage and jerky. This is not one of those operations- they seem to buy their jerky from elsewhere instead of making it on premises with your own deer. D'oh! A deer! A female deer. Venison World - If you love venison, boy, are you in luck! - Meat Shops Near Me - Eden, Texas

I am a fan of Venison World, but mainly because they are easy to find! As an aside, hear this Yelp Engineeers- you COULD make it easier to find jerky for those that travel the many miles thru small towns in Texas. Please consider this as an official request to add 'jerky' as a new 'Yelp filter' category!! Umkay, Thanks! So back to the review. Two quick positives are: 1.) Venison World is EASY to locate as it is deep in the heart of the greater Eden Metroplex, 2.) they have a tremendous variety of jerky. Not all of the jerky is venison as they have beef, turkey, buffalo, elk, moose, wabbit, squirrel, otter and bald eagle (OK, I made some of those up - you can guess which ones.) :-P In addition to exotic jerkies, they have summer sausages, buck sticks, cheese and a variety of condiments, spices,cook books, and other goodies that would make great gifts - or stocking stuffers. We found the proprietor here to be helpful and friendly, as she offered us many jerky samples. Venison World is located in Eden where highway 87 and 83 intersect. When you have to be on the road for hours it's a nice detour/distraction to grab some jerky or candy. The jerky is tasty and available in buffalo, venison or elk varieties. They also now have a spicy turkey jerky that has a nice flavor. If you aren't a jerky fan Venison World also carries summer sausage, fresh frozen meats, and venison snack sticks. The store has some Texas candies too like peanut brittle, pecan clusters, etc. Moderation is key because these little snacks add up. 1/4 lb of jerky runs around $7, summer sausage $9, brittle $5, so before you know it the total is $30-40. Going back home and friend of mine went into this store because he likes it and has been in there before. He is a license to carry a handgun and was carrying his handgun inside the store but was concealed. Apparently the clerk did not like this and told him to get out. He did not argue with them and just left. Then the female clerk and her son decided to come outside and cause a huge argument with him and his wife. Remind you Texas law states must have a 30.06 and 30.07 sign, but he left peacefully, however they came outside and caused a huge disturbance. WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS STORE AGAIN. All they had to do was ask to please leave the gun in the vehicle and it would have been done instead of yelling and screaming. So those of you who wear your handguns, watch out! read more

Very nice little gift shop in this small town, good variety of snack items ready to eat (cheese and summer sausage)

This place advertised the best jerky in the WORLD! I was sitting in the drive-thru in the Dairy Queen across the street staring at their banner SO, I HAD to go in and see for myself. I asked the girl at the Dairy Queen if they were any good and she said that her owner was part owner so they eat their jerky often. She suggested the spicy buffalo jerky. (I edited this review to clarify that the DQ worker did not have an owner but rather was referencing the owner of the DQ... Slavery is bad, mmmkay!?) I got my DQ and bolted across the highway from one parking lot to another... *phew* I was driving a cargo van! I went inside and the girl at the register was on the phone with her bff or something. She, at her leisure, finished up her phone call and then gave me samples of every single cure they had. I tried turkey, buffalo, moo-cow, deer and a cured summer sausage (all regular AND spicy). I must say that the summer sausage wasn't bad at all but the rest were just "meh". I handed her a $20 bill and she handed me two 1/4lb bags of jerky (spicy buffalo and deer). The venison was a LOT more oily from the bag and gave me the WORLD'S more foul smelling gas! Boy, I mean it was enough to make the roadkill on the way home come back to life just to run away! Well, I'm sure no one wanted to hear that but it is the God's honest truth. DO NOT get the spicy venison jerky if there is a chance that you will be anywhere near anyone else for at least a 12 hour period after consumption. I like venison so I liked it but it wasn't the best. The buffalo darn near gave me lock jaw trying to chew it down. Anywho... that's about all I have to say about that place. To top it off, DQ totally ignored my request to put my belt buster on texas toast. BOO!!!! read more

I ran across Venison World this week on a trip in Texas. The Jerky is good. Much is on the salty side. *** Very Important Note - when you purchase the jerky, keep in mind to the fact that you are purchasing not only the specialty jerky (elk, venison, buffalo, etc) in these packages, but beef as well. Read the label closely on the packages and you'll find that you purchase specialty jerky and beef jerky. There's no way of knowing for sure what percent is beef versus that of the other meats. Had it not been for the misleading labeling, I probably would have provided a higher score. For all I know, I paid for 1 small piece of venison or elk, and the rest was beef. I can always buy beef jerky at the store and for a third the price. Misleading labeling is a bad idea - not worth the money if you ask me. read more

Any place named Venison World has to be good. I saw this place on my way to San Angelo, so I stopped in. I've been there twice now and it's a pretty cool place. A lot of Texas type souvenirs for all people wanting Texas style trinkets. But there selection of "game" meat is awesome. From their selections of Jerky's (Buffalo, Deer & Elk), to their snack and other assorted sausage products, to their frozen deer meats, is incredible. Plus they have a hot sauce their that's pretty darn hot but incredibly tasty. If there is only one detractor is take a good amount of cash because it's a little on the pricey side, but with wild game meat, you have to expect that. I don't get out there much but when I do, Venison World is a much needed stop on the itinerary. read more
