I'm in my second month of Velocity Boot Camp and enjoying a newfound sense of health and well-being. My husband and I were feeling a little out of shape and wanted to nip it in the bud before the holidays started up this year. I looked around for a fun and challenging exercise program that would work with our schedule and found Velocity through Yelp. Matt is a great trainer who pushes you to be your best while also remaining gentle and helpful! I've always been worried about my form, so having him there to correct if necessary is clutch. I can really see the changes in my body from about 6 weeks of camp. If you eat clean and attend class every day, you'll see results. I tried this boot camp for the month of November since it's close to my house and I wanted to exercise before work. There was a small discount when I signed up, so I got a month for $179. (still seemed pricey to me) The class is small, most times there were only 4-5 people in the class. The class was fine, certainly exercises you can do at home since they are all done using body weight and resistance bands, but I go to classes to make sure I actually work out! The main reason I didn't like the class was because it was boring. The energy of the group was just blah. Music was terrible (played from Pandora on a cell phone), and other attendees didn't seem like they cared to be there (many only joined once a week or showed up late). If you live in the area, I recommend trying a week trial to get a feel for the class and see how you like it. I decided to go to the community center for $2 workout classes in Silver Lake and Zumba for $3 near LACC instead. These options are cheaper, more variety, and energy in the classes, which is what I prefer. read more

For anyone looking to build on to their routine or start building a routine from nothing, like I did, I can't recommend Velocity enough. At the top of April I was weighing close to 240 lbs. and this morning I weighed in at 203, with huge improvements to my body fat percentage and more strength than I can remember having in my adult life. Cannot be beat, you can try your first week free so it's literally no risk, but you will stay after the first week because it's an amazing class no matter what point of your healthiest you journey you are at. I have been going for around 3 months and it is such a great start to the day. It is miraculously challenging and painless (not literally) at the same time, this is due to Matt's great leadership and attitude and also the fact that the time goes by so quickly! Matt is amazing, the exercises are dynamic and approachable for any level. While a lot of it is stuff you could do on your own, will you actually do it on your own? Will you be able to ask somebody in real time if your form is good, for a modification because your knee is hurting, etc. I would highly recommend joining Velocity Boot Camp, even after your discounted first month it is still an amazing value, way less than most classes in the area. read more

Matt is encouraging without being militant, and the encouragement he gives you is in the form of positive affirmations and helpful fitness/health info! I started this camp a few years ago and dropped off the bandwagon a bit, before recently rejoining. It's always fun to see Matt and the same grunting, sweaty crew! I was first introduced to Velocity Boot Camp in June, 2019 when I took a free one-week trial class. I had been looking for a gym to join, but wasn't sure "boot camp" was the right fit. I leaned more towards yoga and walking, but was open to something more rigorous that could provide resistance and strength training. Matt's class did not disappoint! I was sore for at least two weeks and cursed having to get up at 6:30am to get to the 7am class, but here I am - 7 months later - a devout fan & addict. I've been through a lot of different fitness situations: crossfit, parkour classes, muay thai with a private coach, gym memberships, hiking, and running. I've been seduced by luxurious gyms, exercise trends, and training centers that are 30 minutes from my house. None of them lasted longer than a year. (Well, except for Muay Thai. I can kick your ass.) Why didn't these solutions last long? They were too far, too expensive, too culty, the trainers were too inexperienced and cocky, they didn't happen at times that worked with my life schedule...and so I moved on. So in my experience, one thing matters the most -- will you show up and do the work? I can safely say that with Velocity, the answer is yes. Velocity's greatest strength can be found in its leader, Matt. Matt has the unique quality of being supportive and encouraging without being a tyrant. He is also very precise and knowledgeable -- he'll pop over to tutor you on form, and he inspires you to do a little better each time. The classes tend to be small, so you have plenty of room to work out, and you get all of the attention you need. The exercises we do in class -- usually four rounds of three sets of three exercises each -- hit every part of the body and challenge you to push your limits. Velocity Boot Camp is also very readily accessible. I know that if I wake up at 6:45 and my feet hit the floor at 6:50, that I can be in class at 7am, no problem. Classes take place in a dance studio on Hyperion in Silver Lake. The location is simple but really does the trick, and parking at 7am is easy. The class lasts about 45 minutes, and I'm back home, ready to start my day with an added burst of energy, before 8am. I've been going for about a month, and while I had a good baseline fitness already, I can see changes happening: abs getting tighter, metabolism getting faster, and a general increase in energy level. Velocity is my first bootcamp experience! I didn't think I could survive that first week, but went for 2 months and love it! Matt (trainer) is cool/laid back/positive. Class really improved my cardio level. I know I'm a shallow breather and I used to have little/low endurance when it came to any running/jogging/cardio work but now I can last - and it feels great! I saw results even in a short period of time, and the workouts are fun. The group is varied, and everyone has a great attitude, very friendly and welcoming. This is a solid program for those wanting to get (back) into shape and fit - I think athletes would be challenged too if they throw themselves into it. These classes are as challenging as you make them for yourself - you can do variations on the different exercises to make them tougher/easier so it's up to the individual to really push their body to get the results they want. The best is that Velocity is not intimidating and you really work and you will see results that will motivate you! A fun neighborhood bootcamp to definitely give a try! If you're looking for a personal trainer without the cost, this is as good as it gets!! Matt works your whole body 5 days a week. The classes are small which makes for a personal experience unlike most boot camps. It's a class for all levels of fitness which is great, especially for people new to the idea. If you've thought about a CrossFit or some other hardcore workout program, I suggest you try this first. Matt focuses on your own body weight and your own pace so there's little risk for energy. Don't be mislead, these workouts will kick your butt, and challenge you to push past your limits. Matts such a generous guy who's enthusiastic about health and fitness. He'll help you with your food intake as well as make you sweat. It's tough to find a personal trainer and nutritionist for the prices he offers. Can't say enough good things about it!! This program is life changing! At first, I didn't understand the idea of "you get what you put into it." But for me, the beauty of it is that you can be gentle with yourself when you need to and push hard when you're ready - aka tailor the intensity to yourself. Been a while since my original review, so thought I'd give an update. Except for a couple weeks off here and there while on vacation I've stuck with it. I've been more than happy with my results - when I started I weighed 184 and now I'm 161. My strength and endurance have improved greatly. My "holy crap" moment was when I bought some new jeans last month. I've been a 34" waist for a long time...but I had to buy 31" and they were even a little loose. I haven't had a 31" waist since high school...and that, sadly, was a long, long time ago. Recently Matt, the trainer, has started monitoring campers diets through the myfitnesspal app and offering nutrition advice (for those who want it, of course) and has been mixing up the workout routines with things like agility ladders, sandbags and exercise ropes. I've been trying to find a workout that my husband and I would tolerate. We've had a gym membership forever and it was pretty useless since we didn't have an idea of how to workout properly! I'm just going to list out the perks: 1. The time just works for us and our work schedule. 2. Matt is super nice and not yelling at us to do the exercises. He is very invested in our health and it shows. He sends reminder texts and videos on FB (which help if we are unable to attend class). 3. The exercises are hard and a challenge. He changes it up so we and our muscles aren't bored. 4. The info packet Matt gives us is very informative. He even gave us a notebook to track our food intake. Granted, I haven't been 100% on tracking but knowing he might see what I am eating helps the cause. I can keep going on but I need to sleep for class tomorrow morning! I have been going to Velocity bootcamp for over 6 months and I love it! Matt is a fantastic trainer, setting a super positive atmosphere. You genuinely WANT to attend class. This class is exactly what you need if you want to lose weight and get into awesome shape. I've been going for about six months now, and I hit my weight goal and lost 25 pounds about 2 months ago. Now I go to maintain my weight and build muscle and strength. I've seen a significant improvement in my overall physique, especially my abs, arms and chest. Every day is a different set of aerobic exercises and resistance training, so you get a good full-body workout every week. It's become my regular morning routine. It's plenty of exercise for most adults for the whole week. Matt is awesome. Very cool, professional guy who knows his stuff and is consistently enthusiastic every class. Yay! I finally found a boot camp close to my house at the time that I want! I've been going to this one for a few weeks, and I absolutely love it. The only time I ever miss class is when I can't haul my sorry butt out of bed early enough. I've noticed a definite change in my body, particularly in my endurance. I'm also getting much more tone and definition in my arms and legs, and I haven't changed my eating habits much. I'm not going to lie, the first week or two hurt like hell! But you're not going to get a good body by sitting around like a lump. And this year I want to rock my bikini! The class is less than a year old, and it's run by a wonderful trainer named Matt. It's at Studio A Dance in Silverlake, and it's indoors, which was great a few weeks ago when it was raining all the time. Classes start at 6 and 7am, and you can sign up anytime. The studio is clean, well-lit, and has mirrors in it along one wall. It's a little gem that I didn't know existed before, even though I've driven past it a zillion times. Class content is different every day, with circuit rotations of intense exercises. It routinely kicks my ass all over the place, and I've never once left without feeling that I got an amazing workout. The exercises are always mixed up so we don't get bored, and class sizes are small enough that there is space for everyone. The exercises are also based on your own body weight. Occasionally we use exercise bands, which are provided. So all you need to bring is water and a workout mat. So far the other people in the class are pretty cool, and i think a lot of that has to do with Matt's attitude~ he is very positive and encouraging, not one of those overbearing "you're a wuss if you can't do it!" trainers. He manages to motivate without making anyone feel alienated. I've been to some classes in the past where the trainers were obnoxious and the clientele were really lame, but not here-- you won't find people who get all made up to come work out, or act like they always have something to prove. In fact, there is a distinct lack of douchebaggery at VBC, and it's very refreshing. One thing I didn't like about 24-hr fitness in Hollywood was the crappy parking situation. Street parking there is impossible, so you have to use the parking structure. But often I'd spend 15 minutes looking for a spot (sometimes without finding one at all), and then spend 15 minutes trying to get out of there coz they share a structure with the Arclight. So imagine my delight when I got to Studio A and found out that there is not only parking everywhere, but it is FREE! The meters charge at 8am, but class always ends before then. Pricing varies, depending on how long you commit for initially. I did a lot of research, and breaking down the prices, they are about average. Compared to other boot camps though, you really get a lot for what you pay for. For me, it's more cost-effective for what I need than going to pilates or having a personal trainer. And the classes are small enough that Matt pays personal attention to everyone. So here are my pros * Indoors * Small class size * Free parking * Daily variety of routines * Great instructor * Laid-back clientele * Money-back guarantee * First week is free! * Free nutritional info if you want it * No hard selling of anything * Early class times that fit into most people's work schedules * Matt often offers special deals to his client list, some involving free class time or offers from spas/ local businesses, etc. that he has arrangements with. Again, there is never a hard sell, and that is very nice, because at other gyms, I've constantly felt I was being pressured to buy stuff. Cons (I only have two, but these aren't a big deal. Mentioning them for newbies tho) * No water cooler or vending machine onsite, so bring your own water every time! Sometimes I run out b/c I drink a lot of water during my workouts, so I've just gotten used to stashing extra in my car. * Only one bathroom, and it's in the other studio (there are two studios in the facility, separated by a wall). Until recently there hadn't been classes in there at the 6 and 7am time slots, but now there is a yoga class at 7. This means you have to enter their classroom if you need to use the facilities, but it is a very casual environment, so this hasn't really been awkward for me. For me, the pros far outweigh the already-minor cons. So there you have it, my glowing recommendation of Velocity Boot Camp. I have done gyms and taken classes within the gyms... and usually after 3-6 months I get bored. After a year long hiatus I decided to get back in shape and wanted to try various things to see what I liked / needed in terms of fitness. I have to say I've always been nervous about bootcamp bc I've heard how intense they are. Matt is a very good trainer that motivates you to show up every day and do the work. The intervals are quick and he works every part of the body five days a week! This class (coupled with Soul Cycle a few times a week) and clean eating... is exactly what helped me reach my goals. When I started Matts bootcamp first week of June, I set a goal to lose 20lbs by December. It is now Mid August and I've already lost 18 of the 20lbs. I have never seen such a marked change in my body in such a short time as with Matt's Velocity Boot Camp. I was running and doing spin class, but I needed something to really kick my butt. I especially needed help building my core strength and upper body strength and this is it! Not only is Matt a really great teacher who is encouraging and personable, but the people in the class are really nice too. What I love most about Velocity is that, as a 57yr old overweight and out of shape woman, I was made to feel welcomed not just by Matt, the trainer, but by everyone else in the group - all young, fit, and clearly more capable than I am. Matt creates a very positive, work oriented class where each person does their level best. He gives individual attention, keeps things moving, and gets everyone sweating fast. Workout mortifies me. I am a person who is very lazy and never wants to do any intense activity because I don't like feeling exhausted that's why coming to a boot camp was really a very scary thing for me to do. After a while I started gaining so much weight and long walks has become too hard for me. I asked Matt first before coming in that I am a newbie on everything about exercising and he told me it would be fine because he will not pressure me to go beyond my limits, which is true. I tried the one week trial and Matt was very nice and he guided me in every routine. You can feel that he cares for his clients and he even send texts to check how I was doing after the workouts and email tips on how to get maximum results. Unfortunately I have a chaotic schedule and I was not able to continue. Soon, I am planning to go back and I'm very excited to get fit. read more

I wanted to try something new, after all, going to the gym can get a little redundant. Velocity boot camp is definitely a great workout class and I would highly recommend. It's fun, upbeat, quick and VERY motivating. The instructor, Matt, plays music and motivates you through every work out. I was quite impressed on how much he made me push myself. It is a very diversified class and I liked all the other campers, very positive and welcoming vibe from everyone. At the end of the class I was really happy I attended. For this particular class we did rotations in different corners of the room where we worked on different parts of our body. By the end of class I felt like my body got a good overall workout, legs, arms, abs and all. There are also alternatives workouts you can do if something is too hard. For example, I have always had trouble with pushups, I just don't have great upper body strength. Matt showed me a different type of way to do that them that was not too strenuous on my body. By the third cycle through the workout course I was quite surprised that I had really started to improve on doing them. I was 100% pleased and can't wait to return! read more

i've only used three days of my free trial week and i already feel like a new person! i just cant get it done alone and matt makes the entire process easy. it's a perfect combination of strength training and cardio with a big dose of reinforcement! he's professional, knowledgeable, and plenty positive. the consistency of a 5 day/week program is what is giving me results so fast. i could pay less for a gym membership and be a nameless face in a crowded room. but i choose to workout in a small, friendly group with an instructor who is committed to the health and well being of his clients. that's priceless! read more
