They helped make me feel calm and that my dog was in good hands, my dog hd been abused and had to injuries to his eyes. Panicked I rushed over to wherever I could and I'm glad it was this place, instantly asked me for details and led me to a waiting area where I didn't wait long for doctors to help him out. Dr.Kong and the whole team were helpful and let me follow them through every step they did with my dog and explain to me what's happening, great place and thankful I found them. read more

I want to express my deepest appreciation to Dr. Chung and the entire team for taking such wonderful care of my puppy during such a frightening and difficult time. Seeing my baby so sick was absolutely devastating, and I felt scared and helpless. Your kindness, compassion, patience, and dedication meant more to me than I can put into words. Knowing that my puppy was surrounded by people who truly cared brought me so much comfort when I needed it most. Thank you, Dr. Chung, and everyone on the team, for everything you did, for your expertise, your gentle care, and for treating my puppy like family. I will always be grateful for the love and support you showed both of us. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being there during one of the hardest moments a pet parent can go through. read more

I never had to take my dog into the ER but there is a first time for everything. I called VEG around midnight after my dog was showing signs of distress and spoke with Dr. Nikki about my dog's symptoms (diarrhea for 5-days + consistent vomiting, which started to occur after he went under anesthesia for an intense dental procedure). Dr. Nikki recommended I bring my dog in to get checked out. Dr. Nikki and her staff were incredibly kind, emphatic, and informative in their work. I was very impressed at how Dr. Nikki maintained a calm control over the facility given the fact that a new dog was coming in maybe every 30-minutes. Her positive attitude really made the experience as great as it could be. Dr. Nikki clearly and thoughtfully walked us through the treatment plan and was very transparent about what was recommended/not recommended with no pressure. We opted to follow her recommendation, which consisted of blood work, fluids, and some take-home medication. Total cost was around $1K, which included the $200 office visit. This was my first time using the ER and I didn't think that was insanely priced and based on what I see online it seemed pretty fair. I really appreciated the love, care, and compassion the staff here shows. read more

Amazing place. I worked in large animal veterinary for 20 years but needed to take my cat in. The staff was amazing and on top of it. Triaged my cat while checking me in. Pricing wise, I felt it was good, especially for ER vet. I normally go to a cat only specialty vet and this is close to what it might have cost there. I hope I never NEED to go here again but if I did, I would feel confident and safe in the care my animal was getting. Everyone who worked here was kind, sincere, and so good with my very skittish cat. Good doctor, thorough and helpful and just nice to talk to. One interesting thing is that you can see as much or as little as you like as far as them treating your animal because it is an open floor setup. I was literally recommending this place to friends while in their facility. I was really impressed. read more

VEG ER for Pets - Excited to see his BFF Ashley!!!!! - Emergency Pet Hospital Near Me - Costa Mesa, California

I previously visited the Anaheim Hills VEG clinic in 2024 when a good Samaritan dropped off my missing cat there. My experience then was very positive and I'd said I wouldn't hesitate to use them for my pet emergency needs if I were ever in the area. Over a year later, in early January 2026, I brought my 14 year old terrier-mix to this VEG clinic that had just opened up and is much closer to my home. My dog had kidney failure along with a heart murmur, and after a day of treatment, considerations for his quality of life, and long, difficult discussions with my family, we decided it was best to let him go. The two vets that treated him were very patient and thoroughly explained all options. Being able to spend time with him in one of the sleeper rooms during his treatment was a huge plus. I'm still trying to adjust to life without him, but I'm so grateful I could give him the peaceful end he deserved with the kind and compassionate vets and techs at VEG. read more

My bunny came to this location on a very unfortunate situation . Although I am grieving my bunny (Mr. Thumper) , I have a lot of comfort knowing he was treated by such great people . Immediately when I walked in the door there was a nurse who took my bunny and with another nurse started working on trying to save him. At that point there was about 3-4 people helping him. The Dr. talked to me about my options and was kind enough to speak to my mom over the phone about whether or not they should proceed with trying to run tests on him. Ultimately Thumper was already done fighting so the Dr. guided us in the right direction . They gave me time to say good bye and helped me with arrangements for Thumper. They did their best & I know that my bunny had a great team fighting for him . He was in the best hands . read more

I'm writing this after a lot of thought. My intention is not to attack anyone, but to share our experience honestly so other pet parents can be informed. Our dog, Noni, was brought to VEG ER for Pets - Costa Mesa (2800 Harbor Blvd, Costa Mesa, CA) on February 1, 2026, after being diagnosed elsewhere with a severe urinary tract infection. When she arrived, she was still walking into the clinic on her own. Before a full evaluation was completed, she was given an initial injection of 10 mg of methadone (10 mg/mL injectable). According to the invoice, she ultimately received a total of 22.55 mg of methadone, with additional doses given within a short period of time. This effectively stacked the medication. After the first dose, she was never the same. She became extremely sedated, weak, and disoriented and never returned to her previous condition. During her stay, she was also given alfaxalone (190.2 mg) for sedation while attempting to place a catheter. Multiple attempts were unsuccessful. She woke up screaming on the table in obvious distress, which was heartbreaking to witness. Despite this, she continued to urinate on her own, showing her kidneys were still functioning. We were told her sodium levels were dangerously high, and over time they were brought down. To us, this felt like progress. However, these improvements never seemed to be viewed as wins, and from very early on, euthanasia was frequently presented as an option. Over the course of her hospitalization, we spent over $15,451.15, including medications, diagnostics, fluids, oxygen, and hospitalization (screenshots attached). We trusted every recommendation because we loved her and would have done anything for her. On our final day, while reviewing our invoice at the front desk, I overheard another client approach the doctor and say she was scared because her dog was overly sedated and asked that future doses be reduced to a quarter of what had been given. This deeply concerned me and reinforced the questions we already had. At one point, I asked whether Narcan might help reverse the effects of the pain medication, and staff acknowledged that it could potentially help. To my knowledge, it was never administered. Based on everything I have learned since, it feels as though much of her care became focused on trying to reverse the effects of a long-lasting overdose rather than addressing her original condition. We were left with many unanswered questions and very little closure. I respect how difficult veterinary medicine is, and I know mistakes are never intentional. However, I wish there had been more transparency, caution with medication dosing, and communication during one of the hardest times of my life. Noni walked into this clinic. She never walked out. She was family. She deserved the best care possible. We brought her home for a few hours and she was rushed back to another facility who said her heart rate was dropping and we had to put her down! Thank you Nurse Christine for your HOPE and empathy. Nalah aka Noni was only 6! read more

It's been almost 5 months since our sweet Soju Snax left us, and I can finally write this review without balling, kind of. I wanted to say thank you to VEG ER for taking care of Soju. She was in such great hands with Dr. Jeff . He is extremely knowledgeable, compassionate, and understanding. The team is great as well. Soju unexpectedly didn't eat her breakfast, and I immediately knew something was wrong. Dr. Jeff kindly explained that Soju would be in immense pain and he didn't believe she would make it until the morning. When I heard that it's best for her to be put down as soon as possible, I couldn't comprehend nor had the strength to leave her so suddenly, it was a shock. I definitely respected and understood Dr. Jeff's opinion, but I just couldn't leave her and selfishly took her back home to spend more time before returning her back. He was right. By around 5pm, our sweet Soju lost control of her bowels and we immediately came back to ease her pain. If this reaches even 1 person and helps them with this unbearable decision, I would say to PLEASE listen to your Vet when they say it is time. I know it's hard. I'm so grateful Dr. Jeff said it was ok to spend a couple hours to say goodbye but to bring her back. We got to spend a lot of extra time with her, but can't bare the thought that she was in pain in the end. I wish we brought her a bit sooner but selfishly I couldn't do it . The team was very kind when we came back and had a nice dimly lit comfortable space for us to say our final goodbyes while the procedure was done. We still keep the condolence card on our fridge as a sweet gesture and reminder that Soju was in such great hands. Honestly, thank you all so much read more

Unfortunately we found ourselves back at the ER but fortunately we had another great experience with the staff and the service! We had to wait for an ultrasound tech for a little over an hour so I asked to be in a little more private area for my pup to be less anxious and more comfortable so they gave us a room. Thanks to Dr Jaime for taking the time to explain everything and answering our questions. Thanks to the tech, Lylah, who helped with the treatment and was patient with my doggie, he was a little spicy and had to be muzzled for some of the treatment... Will always keep coming back for any future issues (hopefully we won't be back for a long time though!) read more

This is a bittersweet review. Our sweet cat got sick and this place helped us immensely to get through the process. We called and they were so helpful, set up an ultrasound tech and had us come in an hour before so we didn't have to wait in the waiting area and our cat could rest at home. Unfortunately our cat was too sick and we had to put her to sleep. They were so patient with the process and let us take all the time we needed to say goodbye. We are glad we found this place. They are also upfront about costs and honestly any emergency vet is going to be expensive. Highly recommend them for your ER needs and any other issues. Having to say goodbye to a beloved pet is one of the hardest things anyone can go through, and I am so grateful for the kindness and compassion this team showed my family and me. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted and made to feel welcome. The staff took the time to explain the entire process, listened to my wishes, and made sure all of my questions were answered. They kindly had me take care of the payment beforehand so I could focus entirely on being with my furry baby afterward. The veterinary assistant and doctor were incredibly gentle, patient, and empathetic throughout the entire experience. They treated my pet with such dignity and gave my family the time and privacy we needed to say our final goodbyes. I truly appreciate the care, compassion, and professionalism everyone showed during one of the most difficult days of my life. On 4/22, we adopted two cats from OC Animal Shelter. On the night of 4/25, when we came home, we discovered that one of the cats, who had recently been spayed, had opened stitches at the surgical site. It appeared the wound had not been properly secured, and it was only held together by a staple. We were shocked and very worried. It was late at night, and we called multiple places trying to find help, but no one was available. We were then recommended VEG, with the reassurance that they do not turn away emergency cases, so we rushed in. From the moment we arrived, we were immediately taken in and cared for by Dr. Quynh Nguyen and the staff on duty. Dr. Nguyen showed exceptional compassion, empathy, and professionalism throughout the entire visit. We explained that we had just rescued these cats and were also facing financial limitations. She treated the situation with understanding and worked with us to make sure our cat received the care she urgently needed. We are deeply grateful for the kindness and support we received that night. It made a very stressful situation so much easier to get through. We would not hesitate to return to VEG in an emergency and highly recommend Dr. Nguyen and the entire team. read more

I had to bring my cat Franklin in last minute yesterday (he swallowed a piece of string), and I had the best experience with everyone at VEG Costa Mesa. Dr. Chung was amazing along with all of the techs. They explained everything in depth, answered my questions and made sure I was comfortable before proceeding with my cat's care. They were are all SO nice, I felt very safe and at ease even in the middle of a semi-emergency. They all treated Franklin with so much love. I was very satisfied with the treatment he received, and thankfully his problem was resolved. Being in an urgent situation, it was scary picking a place with little time to research the facility. I am so thankful that I brought Franklin here. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone seeking emergency vet care, I had a fabulous experience! read more

Super friendly staff, they make you feel at ease on the phone even before you come in and don't pressure you to bring your pet in. They're super communicative about procedures and prices as well which took a big load of worry off our shoulders when we were already worried about our dog. read more

DONT GO!!! This was the WORST vet I have ever been to. They traumatized my cat for no reason, ordered unnecessary tests that costs upwards of $1500 which we NEGOTIATED down for an HOUR? Called last night to let them know we were on our way with our Guinea pig and they were ready for us the moment we got there. Unfortunately my little Wall-E was too far gone and we had to let him go. I obviously broke down. The staff was so professional and well spoken during this traumatic event. Made me feel at ease and didn't judge me at all. Thet were very informative and patient with us. Exceptional care! After a scare in the middle of the night we brought our dog to VEG ER and from the moment we walked in the staff took care of him right away with tenderness. I thought I was going to lose my dog that night but thankfully they were able to stabilize him over the next few hours. Unfortunately my dog passed months after and when they found out they sent a card signed individually by all the staff. I was super impressed by VEG. The tech, Bri I think, spoke to me pre-arrival and was waiting for us when we got there. she listened and gave us great care, and to our dog. The Doctor, N. Smith was exceptional!!. They were kind, thorough, and Dr. Smith gave me tremendous confidence in the care and treatment which is ongoing, he had pneumonia. The hospital is very clean, organized, and we loved the VEG open space treatment model where you are with your pet throughout treatment. It was a bit pricey and took time even in the middle of the night yet worth the slower pace given their attention to detail. Thank you Brianne snd Dr. Smith!!. read more

The best experience at VEG ER. Unfortunately, I discovered this ER under stressful circumstances, but I'm so grateful I found them. What started as a normal day turned into one of the scariest moments. During our morning walk, something bit my baby, Reina. Within seconds, her breathing slowed, she went limp, had explosive diarrhea, and became unresponsive. My husband and I panicked and rushed her to the car. As he drove, I frantically searched for an emergency vet, and thank God, VEG was only four minutes from our home. I called ahead, and they were already prepared for Reina when we arrived. The team acted quickly with incredible focus, care, and compassion. My husband and I were both in shock, but he said this was one of the best veterinary experiences he has had in years. They treated Reina as if she were their own, quickly identifying what was wrong and keeping us informed every step of the way. They offered us coffee and a private room to stay with Reina while she was being treated. Dr. Zarday personally called later that day to check in on her, something that meant so much to us. Every vet tech we encountered was kind, attentive, and genuinely caring, constantly checking on Reina throughout her stay. Thanks to their prompt action and the right medications, she began improving almost immediately under their care. We are so thankful for everyone at VEG ER. Truly an amazing experience and we cannot thank you enough! read more

VEG ER in Costa Mesa made one of the hardest days in my life more manageable with less pain. My dog Mochi was in breathing distress one recent evening, and I took him to VEG ER, Costa Mesa. Dr. Regan, Mike Stewart, and other staff were compassionate and professional. Prior to our visit, Mochi was diagnosed with a breathing issue. His regular vet and a cardiologist took x-rays and conducted an ultrasound to view his heart and lungs and found no structural anomaly. However, there were cancerous cells in the fluid around his lung and the plan was to take him to an oncology specialist. I was able to make the decision to let him go despite the fact that Dr. Regan thought she could "stabilize" him for his oncology consult the following day at noon. By the time I took him to the ER, his quality of life was gone. VEG ER's private room was smartly equipped with human snacks, including kiss chocolates, to treat departing pets. An oxygen set up was available so Mochi could breathe easier. All steps were taken to soften the blow of losing a family member, and I was able to spend quality time with Mochi in his last moments. Dr. Regan was clear that she would not have agreed to euthanasia if she did not believe that Mochi was in serious distress. Mike Stewart, the nurse/technician, was patient and kind. I chose to take Mochi's remains to another location for cremation. His remains were carefully handled and clearly tagged. This gave me great comfort that he was handled with care and dignity, even after he had passed. The team at VEG ER made a very stressful and traumatic situation more manageable. Given the circumstances, it was the best possible outcome. Thank you so much for making an extremely difficult decision and experience as seamless as possible. I am grateful for your compassionate care and attention throughout this experience. read more

Wonderful staff but did not know how to properly assess or help me with my bearded dragon. Wouldn't help unless i went through $1200 worth of test. I took him to a vet in yorba Linda and analyzed him and saw him for $85. Properly diagnosed him after 5 minutes and gave me multiple options to proceed. I was at the emergency vet for 4 hours with no answers and $600 lost just to be misdiagnosed and sending me home with no progress. It's completely ridiculous to charge someone $200 for an exam when NO information is found through a physical exam. In my opinion - you should not offer care for exotic animals when you cannot properly assess their physical state and know a feasible way to proceed. I felt like the whole time they were almost avoiding me because they didn't have an option B or C with how we can proceed. Yorba Linda vet is Greek and association and they are more than equipped to deal with exotic pets. They are very knowledgeable and won't make you spend thousands on unnecessary tests that will drain your bank and torture your animals for $. (714)463-1190 read more

Unfortunately for us, we had two rat emergencies in one week that led us to having our first experiences at VEG. As soon as we walked through the door, we were greeted and checked in very quickly. I like that the doctor quickly comes to assess your pet for stability, unlike other ER vets we have been to. We saw Dr. Kong for one rat, and Dr. Nikki for the other. Both vets were great along with all the vet tech staff. All team members clearly communicated well with each other and it was fun to watch what they were doing with each patient (until I started feeling woozy and had to look away!!!). Our rats Gus and Remy were handled with the utmost care and I truly felt like they were in great hands. Wait times during each visit varied due to the number of pets in the queue. I appreciate that they take care of more critical patients first, even if it means your more stable pet has a longer wait. I won't hesitate to come back to VEG (but hopefully our next emergency visit is not so soon!). read more

We brought our snake (Brazilian rainbow boa) to the Veterinary Emergency Group on Harbor Blvd, and I can't say enough good things about this team. We truly thought he was dying (or already gone) halfway through a feeding, and they jumped into action right away. The staff was not only knowledgeable but incredibly kind and reassuring. They treated Romeo with the same level of care and compassion you'd hope for from a family doctor. They kept him warm in an incubator, monitored him closely, and even offered to observe him for an extra day just to make sure he was stable. When we picked him up, he was alert, strong, and back to his curious self. The entire team went above and beyond, explaining everything clearly and treating us with patience and empathy. You can tell they genuinely love what they do and care deeply about every animal that comes through their doors--no matter how big or small.
