I previously visited the Anaheim Hills VEG clinic in 2024 when a good Samaritan dropped off my missing cat there. My experience then was very positive and I'd said I wouldn't hesitate to use them for my pet emergency needs if I were ever in the area. Over a year later, in early January 2026, I brought my 14 year old terrier-mix to this VEG clinic that had just opened up and is much closer to my home. My dog had kidney failure along with a heart murmur, and after a day of treatment, considerations for his quality of life, and long, difficult discussions with my family, we decided it was best to let him go. The two vets that treated him were very patient and thoroughly explained all options. Being able to spend time with him in one of the sleeper rooms during his treatment was a huge plus. I'm still trying to adjust to life without him, but I'm so grateful I could give him the peaceful end he deserved with the kind and compassionate vets and techs at VEG. read more

Wonderful staff but did not know how to properly assess or help me with my bearded dragon. Wouldn't help unless i went through $1200 worth of test. I took him to a vet in yorba Linda and analyzed him and saw him for $85. Properly diagnosed him after 5 minutes and gave me multiple options to proceed. I was at the emergency vet for 4 hours with no answers and $600 lost just to be misdiagnosed and sending me home with no progress. It's completely ridiculous to charge someone $200 for an exam when NO information is found through a physical exam. In my opinion - you should not offer care for exotic animals when you cannot properly assess their physical state and know a feasible way to proceed. I felt like the whole time they were almost avoiding me because they didn't have an option B or C with how we can proceed. Yorba Linda vet is Greek and association and they are more than equipped to deal with exotic pets. We had to wait for an ultrasound tech for a little over an hour so I asked to be in a little more private area for my pup to be less anxious and more comfortable so they gave us a room. Thanks to Dr Jaime for taking the time to explain everything and answering our questions.Thanks to the tech, Lylah, who helped with the treatment and was patient with my doggie, he was a little spicy and had to be muzzled for some of the treatment... I'm writing this after a lot of thought. My intention is not to attack anyone, but to share our experience honestly so other pet parents can be informed. Our dog, Noni, was brought to VEG ER for Pets - Costa Mesa (2800 Harbor Blvd, Costa Mesa, CA) on February 1, 2026, after being diagnosed elsewhere with a severe urinary tract infection. When she arrived, she was still walking into the clinic on her own. Before a full evaluation was completed, she was given an initial injection of 10 mg of methadone (10 mg/mL injectable). According to the invoice, she ultimately received a total of 22.55 mg of methadone, with additional doses given within a short period of time. This effectively stacked the medication. After the first dose, she was never the same. She became extremely sedated, weak, and disoriented and never returned to her previous condition. During her stay, she was also given alfaxalone (190.2 mg) for sedation while attempting to place a catheter. Multiple attempts were unsuccessful. She woke up screaming on the table in obvious distress, which was heartbreaking to witness. Despite this, she continued to urinate on her own, showing her kidneys were still functioning. We were told her sodium levels were dangerously high, and over time they were brought down. To us, this felt like progress. However, these improvements never seemed to be viewed as wins, and from very early on, euthanasia was frequently presented as an option. Over the course of her hospitalization, we spent over $15,451.15, including medications, diagnostics, fluids, oxygen, and hospitalization (screenshots attached). We trusted every recommendation because we loved her and would have done anything for her. On our final day, while reviewing our invoice at the front desk, I overheard another client approach the doctor and say she was scared because her dog was overly sedated and asked that future doses be reduced to a quarter of what had been given. This deeply concerned me and reinforced the questions we already had. At one point, I asked whether Narcan might help reverse the effects of the pain medication, and staff acknowledged that it could potentially help. To my knowledge, it was never administered. Based on everything I have learned since, it feels as though much of her care became focused on trying to reverse the effects of a long-lasting overdose rather than addressing her original condition. We were left with many unanswered questions and very little closure. I respect how difficult veterinary medicine is, and I know mistakes are never intentional. However, I wish there had been more transparency, caution with medication dosing, and communication during one of the hardest times of my life. Noni walked into this clinic. She never walked out. She was family. She deserved the best care possible. We brought her home for a few hours and she was rushed back to another facility who said her heart rate was dropping and we had to put her down! Smith was exceptional!!. They were kind, thorough, and Dr. Smith gave me tremendous confidence in the care and treatment which is ongoing, he had pneumonia. The hospital is very clean, organized, and we loved the VEG open space treatment model where you are with your pet throughout treatment. VEG ER in Costa Mesa made one of the hardest days in my life more manageable with less pain. My dog Mochi was in breathing distress one recent evening, and I took him to VEG ER, Costa Mesa. Dr. Regan, Mike Stewart, and other staff were compassionate and professional. Prior to our visit, Mochi was diagnosed with a breathing issue. His regular vet and a cardiologist took x-rays and conducted an ultrasound to view his heart and lungs and found no structural anomaly. However, there were cancerous cells in the fluid around his lung and the plan was to take him to an oncology specialist. I was able to make the decision to let him go despite the fact that Dr. Regan thought she could "stabilize" him for his oncology consult the following day at noon. By the time I took him to the ER, his quality of life was gone. VEG ER's private room was smartly equipped with human snacks, including kiss chocolates, to treat departing pets. An oxygen set up was available so Mochi could breathe easier. All steps were taken to soften the blow of losing a family member, and I was able to spend quality time with Mochi in his last moments. Dr. Regan was clear that she would not have agreed to euthanasia if she did not believe that Mochi was in serious distress. Mike Stewart, the nurse/technician, was patient and kind. I chose to take Mochi's remains to another location for cremation. His remains were carefully handled and clearly tagged. This gave me great comfort that he was handled with care and dignity, even after he had passed. The team at VEG ER made a very stressful and traumatic situation more manageable. Given the circumstances, it was the best possible outcome. Thank you so much for making an extremely difficult decision and experience as seamless as possible. What sets their ER apart from others is that the lobby is very open and chairs are comfortable. In addition to this, you can visibly see your pet being cared for in front of you which helps calm your nerves. The wait is very short, and the staff is very respectful. The best experience at VEG ER. Unfortunately, I discovered this ER under stressful circumstances, but I'm so grateful I found them. What started as a normal day turned into one of the scariest moments. During our morning walk, something bit my baby, Reina. Within seconds, her breathing slowed, she went limp, had explosive diarrhea, and became unresponsive. My husband and I panicked and rushed her to the car. As he drove, I frantically searched for an emergency vet, and thank God, VEG was only four minutes from our home. I called ahead, and they were already prepared for Reina when we arrived. The team acted quickly with incredible focus, care, and compassion. My husband and I were both in shock, but he said this was one of the best veterinary experiences he has had in years. They treated Reina as if she were their own, quickly identifying what was wrong and keeping us informed every step of the way. They offered us coffee and a private room to stay with Reina while she was being treated. Dr. Zarday personally called later that day to check in on her, something that meant so much to us. Every vet tech we encountered was kind, attentive, and genuinely caring, constantly checking on Reina throughout her stay. A big benefit of VEG is that I was able to call ahead and talk to Dr. Regan about the issue I was seeing with my dogs' eyes to see if it was worth the trip. Once they confirmed it was, they asked a few questions to be prepared for our arrival, even taking the time to ensure they were our closest location when I informed them that we were a bit further away. In addition to the open concept, they have a locked door to help with safety so they are quick to greet you upon your arrival. Orsa checked us in and Dr. Regan joined which ensured a fast assessment for urgency before having to wait. The entire team was very nice and many cooed over my dog which always makes me feel proud but also helped us feel seen and acknowledged. Mike assisted us with my dog's assessment and was an absolute gem with their calm tone and demeanor; they helped keep us calm while other clients were being seen around us. They also got on the ground to meet my dog at his level which is always appreciated. I was privileged not to have an emergency case so I witnessed a steady flow of clients come in and saw that my welcome was the standard. They also took some clients to private rooms so it is nice to know that that option is available as needed. When a potential emergency came in, there was no delay in response as the team worked together to meet the client to assess. The other doctor that was working was quick to move in to check on the pets and evaluate the situation. When Dr. Regan followed up with us to go over the results and further assess, they met my dog on the ground as well. They too were calm and communicative, and when it was time to go over price and treatment options, the doctor sat next to me and gave me options with no pressure, just suggestions. We brought our snake (Brazilian rainbow boa) to the Veterinary Emergency Group on Harbor Blvd, and I can't say enough good things about this team. We truly thought he was dying (or already gone) halfway through a feeding, and they jumped into action right away. The staff was not only knowledgeable but incredibly kind and reassuring. They treated Romeo with the same level of care and compassion you'd hope for from a family doctor. They kept him warm in an incubator, monitored him closely, and even offered to observe him for an extra day just to make sure he was stable. When we picked him up, he was alert, strong, and back to his curious self. The entire team went above and beyond, explaining everything clearly and treating us with patience and empathy. You can tell they genuinely love what they do and care deeply about every animal that comes through their doors--no matter how big or small. We had initially gone to her oncology specialist, which also handles emergencies, but were turned away due to a critical case arriving. The estimated wait was 2-3 hours, despite an empty lobby. Working in the veterinary field myself, I had already heard a lot of chatter about VEG and their open floor concept, so I decided to stop by. I'm glad I did -- the experience truly exceeded my expectations. The team was eager and excited to help, and just as focused on making sure Luna and I were comfortable. Luna was hospitalized overnight, and through the entire process I was impressed with how the open floor model functions. From my perspective in the field, I believe this approach really bridges a gap between veterinary and human medicine. That kind of visibility has the potential to build greater respect and understanding for veterinary medicine as a whole. On a personal note, Luna's care was excellent. This ER exceeded my expectations. I was able to remain with my cat throughout her visit. They do have an open concept, but were able to provide a private room for her. Something that gave me peace was that this ED ran like a "human" ED. They treat pets according to their triage (severity level). With that in mind you could be waiting a while BUT remember waiting in an ED is always a good sign. Staff were amazing & very patient. The vet tech that assisted us did such a great job with my cat. She is such a sassy cat but she knew exactly how to approach her. Honestly every employee we came across was amazing & caring. read more

I found an abandoned baby squirrel that I needed to get formula for but it was late at night and everything was closed- thankfully I called VEG ER to see if they had any kitten formula to get the baby through the night. Our mini aussie was having trouble breathing in the middle of the night. We brought him in, and the whole staff was immediately attentive. He had to stay on oxygen for more than a day, and I cannot express how great the staff and doctors were during the whole process. The ER is set up so we could stay with him the whole time - and when we did go home, the staff provided regular updates, including during the transition from overnight to daytime staff. They also provided a great recommendation for a specialist. VEG isn't inexpensive (no ER is), but I would never hesitate to bring my dogs back in. We had a very positive experience with the care provided our Cairn terrier after he injured himself on a roll of wire. I appreciated the open plan of the clinic and the ability to stay with our dog during his treatment. The staff kept us updated, listened, and collaborated with us to set a plan of treatment. When you have to make the very difficult decision to let your pet cross over this is the place to go. The staff was professional, yet compassionate. When we arrived they showed us straight to a special quiet room that was comfortable, and soothing, with dim lights, and a white noise machine. Our dog went peacefully after a very difficult last few days. I had been contemplating having in home euthanasia and this was actually better IMO. The doctor and staff gave us as much time with our pet as we needed to say goodbye, both before and after the procedure. The price was the more than $200 less than in home euthanasia. It's sad to have to think about putting a price on something like this for a loved one but that is the reality. Thank you VEG ER. read more
