We are incredibly grateful for the outstanding service and compassionate care our family dog, Levi, a large Goldendoodle, received at VEG Emergency Pet Care. Levi had swallowed a foreign object, and our initial attempt to induce vomiting with hydrogen peroxide was unsuccessful. The team quickly triaged his condition, performed an X-ray, and developed an emergency treatment plan. An endoscopy procedure successfully removed the object, and we could not have been more pleased with the outcome. Throughout the ER visit, the team provided excellent communication, thoroughly explained the treatment options, and kept us informed about Levi's care plan. Dr. Nicole Dockrey and her team on duty delivered exceptional care and treatment, giving us confidence and peace of mind during a stressful situation. I had to bring my little kitten to the emergency room a couple of nights ago for an obstruction. The team at VEG ER is so sweet and understanding and attentive, even when there were animals with ostensibly more urgent needs. They let me stay there as much as I wanted and tried to make sure I was comfortable. They let me watch everything that happened. Also, the business itself is a safe and affirming space with progress pride flags hanging and snacks/coffee/tea/water available, which also helped me feel more welcome. Of course, it was expensive, which I knew it would be. About $4k for a urinary obstruction. But that's standard for a 24/7 pet ER. They did a wonderful job with documentation, which should help with his insurance claim. read more

The best emergency care! Fast and thorough. Our small dog was crying out in pain at 1am on a Saturday morning. Turns out he ate a rock, a sizable rock at that! I have never been to a vet clinic where it felt like the doctors were actually ENJOYING doing their job- and the job they are doing is EXCEPTIONAL!!! My 13 year old Chesapeake got into her food plus a lot of other food. I was worried about bloat, so I brought her to VEG at 10:30 pm. They brought us back and started diagnosing the issue very quickly. It was a long night, but it was made easier since they put us in a room with a BED in it! This was simply AMAZING that this veterinary group cared about the owners as much as the animals they are treating. The vets and techs all treat the animals by SITTING ON THE FLOOR! You could tell the animals were much more comfortable. I am so thankful that we have an emergency vet clinic that I have better confidence in than any of the other clinics I have been to in recent years. read more

Can't really say enough good things about this facility. Our sweet kitty, Miles, was given a peaceful, dignified end which is all we could ask for. We are from VA, in town for a quick visit. Our precious buddy has had issues with weight loss and kidney function for almost a year, but he stopped eating and drinking completely and was declining more rapidly over the course of our stay in Asheville. Although we were treating his symptoms with medication prescribed from our vet at home, we could see his suffering. We walked into VEG at around 3:00 a.m. after waking up to him in distress. A veterinary nurse immediately greeted us upon arrival. She took us back right away, reviewed his whole health history, and gently assessed his vitals. When Dr. Crook came in, it was apparent that all details of his health history were carefully and accurately relayed to her. Dr. Crook examined him and reviewed the options for further treatment with great care, concern and knowledge. She reminded us of our vet at home, which was a comfort as well. All of the staff were so empathetic to the circumstance and so gracious in helping us with this difficult experience. A previous review mentioned that they could not recommend this place enough, just wish the circumstances of meeting had been better- these are our sentiments exactly. read more

Corporate price gouging, poor treatment of my animal. We were charges $5,000 for a simple urinary obstruction. Did npot recieve the promised veterans discount and my animal was covered in amonia from sitting in his own urine. The carrier took two weeks to clean and was soaked in amonia smell. My cat was obvousley sitting in his carrier soaked in piss for hours until he was discharged. read more

Edited to indicate I visited the Asheville, N.C. location of VEG. Instead of an exhaustive detail as to the very bad experience I had here with no improvement being seen by my dog, I will just report as to one very odd detail. After much talking back and forth trying to receive decent care for my Golden Retriever, I asked for VEG to forward the bloodwork and x-rays to my veterinarian in Columbia, SC. Along with these items they decided to send typed summaries of things they said I said to them which simply were not things I said and some very rude commentary. It is both odd and unprofessional they would do this. It seemed they could relay texts I sent correctly, but actual phone conversations were distorted and untrue. I really don't see a need for them to have sent anything other than a summary of their medical care & the actual bloodwork & x-rays. The reason I wanted my vet to have the records as to the bloodwork and x-rays is so they could be put in my dog's file as they had indicated a couple of things about the x-rays I wanted to ask my vet about, along with information about his hematocrit level I had concerns about. I was charged $1,800 for their services and sent home with Proviable probiotics and some bland dog food. I also still had a dog who continued to throw up and have bloody diarrhea until I was able to procure an antibiotic from my veterinarian. Needless to say I would not return to this practice. Additional response to the response from VEG I received below and an update as to my Golden's great improvement upon receiving Metronidazole: Logan received Metronidazole from his regular vet (University of Georgia) on Saturday morning. Until then he was still frantically having diarrhea with blood in it and very lethargic. He would not eat. By Saturday afternoon, he showed interest in eating again. Yesterday (Sunday) the blood was gone from his stool and it started firming up a bit, and today (Monday) he had his first normal stool. I've had several vets tell me if there is blood in the stool they prescribe Metronidazole. It disturbs me greatly when a dog is in this much discomfort and things are getting worse instead of better, VEG would not prescribe what was needed. She may have been willing to roll the dice with my dog's health, but I was not. His condition and level of discomfort were getting worse. On the phone, the vet below told me diarrhea generally gets better in two to three days. I see she is now saying a week. It figures. read more

Also, that was very tacky and bad bedside manners that the receptionist handed me a card to give you a review as my bird was dying and couldn't be saved by your practice after spending $300.00 dollars there!! My sweet cat Dr. G starting breathing heavily and from the moment I called VEG I was treated with such empathy and urgency by Silver. She assured us to get there and that if he needed immediate attention, he would be looked at. We jumped in the car and headed that way and once we made it through the door, they were on it. She remembered me from the phone and had even sent me a text so I was even able to check in before I left my house. Then, once inside the rest of the doctors, nurses and staff were so gracious and supportive to my sweet kitty. Tuesday night before Thanksgiving, our beloved 12 year old golden lab Bodhi had a second onset of vestibular disease and we decided it was time to let him go rather than watch him suffer through another bout (he never fully recovered from the first). Despite checking the app and website and then calling Banfield on Tuesday before they closed and an hour after they opened on Wednesday (no answer), I took him in Wednesday at 8:15 AM only to find that they were closed. I took him directly to VEG who took one look at him, asked for some basic information, told me their process, gave me some options and then some space to decide what to do and then make our goodbyes. To a person, all were professional, respectful and comforting to us both. It made what was a horrible situation as good as I could ever have hoped. read more

However after less than 45 minutes of physical exam and three x-rays I was reamed with a $730 bill to put in comparison I went to the local Black mountain urgent Care for a minor surgery walk in I paid less than $230 these people don't care about the working Man and it's obvious it's about the money they did not work with me they wiped out my account read more

VEG has helped us out with our pets in crisis on several occasions since they first opened. This is a state of the art facility that can run the tests and has the life saving resources to help our pets in need. We're an hr drive away but find it well worth the help after hours or when our local vet doesn't have the equipment or staffing needed. VEG has been five stars, even when the difficult time came at 2AM to help our young english bulldog out of a congenital non-curative suffering/circumstance. VEG helped us navigate the pain of letting go by keeping our pup comfortable. We're grateful for VEG and I highly recommend to anyone in the WNC region. read more

In 20 years of pet parenting, the VEG is absolutely the best emergency experience I've ever had. From my initial phone call to being greeted when I arrived, they clearly cared for my pup and made us both feel comfortable. We were brought back to a large open floor plan procedure area where I could stay with my pup while nurses met her on the floor (where she was most comfortable) to treat her. When she was acting nervous, they even brought her treats to calm her down during treatment. I watched several other patients come in and be treated right away. Every one of the staff we met were awesome and I would highly recommend this practice if your pet is in distress. read more

Everyone at VEG was WONDERFUL! My 16 year old cat was very sick and had to be put down but Dr. Sims was so kind in explaining the situation. Dr. Sims told me that we could try to get her well, which would be grueling for the cat and very expensive, but them we would have to find out what the actual problem was. There's only so much you want to put an elderly pet through before you just have to put them out of any suffering. I was put in a private room with my cat and was told to take my time saying good bye and gave me a buzzer to call Dr. Sims to come in. They gave her a sedative and then euphonized her. It made me feel better knowing she was sedated before she left me. They were extremely understanding when I told them I was a retired 70 year old on SS and the bill was completely fair. I CAN'T RECOMMEND THEM ENOUGH! read more

On 18 April about 3am we had to take our 14 year old cocker to VEG. He has a collapsing trachea, a failing heart and being treated for cancer. He was breathing fast and we could not calm him down. We called and they said to bring him right in after a discussion with the vet Dr Sim. We took him to their facility and he was immediately seen and checked. The best thing is we were able to stay with him while he was being examined. It turned out to be more anxiety thank goodness and suggested gabapentin which worked within an hour. Great visit at a reasonable cost. So glad they are in our area. read more

I highly recommend VEG in Asheville. My elderly dog was very sick and unfortunately had to put down. From the initial phone call until the process was over they were very caring, compassionate, and helpful. When we arrived we were taken straight back to a private room where the tech talked to us about what our preferences were and followed through with exactly what we wanted. I can't imagine it being a better experience as far as how it had to happen. I was so glad we chose to go there. I even received a super sweet sympathy card in the mail today with signatures on it from the staff. I hope I never have to go through that again; but if I do I would certainly not go anywhere else. read more

Don't call this place during an emergency with your fur baby. I made the mistake of calling them while in panic for my cats life. Upon first answering a lady asked what I needed I proceed to say I wasn't sure what to do my cat ate something that the internet says is toxic she interrupted me and said Im going to transfer you to the vet I said okay Thankyou sm she said mmh ok the next lady the vet barely let me explain the situation immediately tried to have me pay 100$ for some poison control call went on about seasoning which I understand but she said that was no issue I was worried about. Not one did she seem concerned for me or my fur baby and at the end of the call I heard her and her coworkers laughing. I just don't understand how you work in an animal ER basically and don't show any emotion toward your patients or the customers. You work as a vet cause you love animals, if you don't why work in that environment? I understand I could have been overreacting over nothing but I care for my fur baby's health and well being. read more

We took our 1.5 year old golden retriever in to VEG after she had hurt her leg randomly. We told them she started limping on it and wasn't acting like herself. The staff brought us a back and had us waiting for the doctor while they were getting her vitals. Doctor Erika Novak came over and within 1 MINUTE of looking at our dog, she said "oh yeah something is not okay, yeah hmm idk I think she definitely has a fracture and we probably can't put plates in or a splint, we might be looking at amputation".... we were STUNNED to say the least!! We were so upset not knowing what came next and she just walked away.. the remaining staff (front desk, techs, anyone else) were amazing and took care of us and took our dog to get her X-rays and it ended up being a dislocated elbow, which we were so grateful for.. but a HUGE difference from an amputation. She ended up sending us to a specialist and they were able to pop it back in place and send her home that day! I understand doctors make mistakes, but they way she handled it was very unprofessional and had us thinking the worst was going to happen to our dog only to find out that was not the case, and she didn't even give a sincere apology. We won't be going here again, but will absolutely go to SAVES down the road!!! read more
