They performed covid screening questions and asked me my medical history. The staff was extremely nice. Mr. Mayo was so patient with me even though I was in pain and acting very $&@&. And I was a real $&)&!!!!! He and the staff hooked me up and told me what to do for after care and yep! I wish they were my primary care doctors!!!! They even gave me advice and assistance for veterans benefits. They rock! If ever in Virginia again, I would most definitely stop by this place again. I hate being sick but these people know how to health care! They gave me their website where I can contact them there if I had any follow up questions and can get medical advice. I am on a schedule II DEA medication and have been for more than 30 years. With the exception of a periood of a reported "shortage" during COVID, I have never had an issue with getting a refill. At JenCare, they tell you to call 72 hours in advance. I do. Sometimes the physician gets the message. Sometimes, he doesn't. And these people respond with, "Well, there's nothing I can do on this end," or "We had a staffing issue last (pick a day of the week). I still work for a living -- as a Realtor. I love my work but it neccesitates an organized brain, for which medication helps. That's one issue. The other major one is the absurd length of time one waits to see the doctor. You have an appointment at 9:50 a.m. You arrive on time only to note a room full of waiting patients. You ask the front desk, "Do you know how long the wait time is for Dr. XYZ?" You either get the 'deer in the headlight' look or, "I'm not sure." You ask, "Well, can you find out for me?" Sometimes, you get lucky and someone checks. Other times, you walk out. Why? Even if I didn't have some place to be at 1 p.m., no one should have to wait close to three hours to see a doctor. Not in a primary care setting. Once, I waited at Patient First for nearly that long. About a week later, I received an "apology" letter. So did everyone else that day. And then...and then...there's the issue of communications. There is nothing online. No patient portal, no meaningful way to communicate with your primary care provider as the office folks will eventually get a message to your doc but it's often garbled and not at all what you said. No access to online records, which means slow, if any, communications at all with your specialists. JenCare was recommended by a friend. The friend has moved on to another care provider, and I will be doing the same. In summary, if you don't mind your meds being ridiculously late, you have all day to see the doctor and don't mind waiting in a big open room full of people doing the same, and you are patient with what appears to be either poorly educated and trained staff persons -- some who butcher the King's English with apparent glee -- you'll do okay here. On the other hand, if you're used to some modicum of efficiency and decorum befitting a MD's office, DO NOT GO HERE.

I…read morewent in to the emergency room after a visit patient first who told me that I had a lot of anomalies in my blood work along with a few other issues and they sent me straight to the emergency room. When I got there, they ran the initial blood tests and everything as well and found all of the same bloodwork anomalies. Well, all of the nurses in the ER were super nice, super helpful and helped me tremendously since I was by myself for quite some time. My boyfriend showed up and stayed with me until they were just getting ready to take me to a room, which was at 2 AM in the morning. So technically I'd sat in the ER room for 10 hours but because of all of the test testing and everything it pretty much went quickly. And I sent my boyfriend home around midnight to take care of our dogs. Anyways, the bathrooms in the ER we're fairly clean and well stocked. But you're also sharing bathrooms with 100 other people lol. When I finally got to my room, the nurse that was assigned to me on Night Shift got me hooked up to multiple multiple. IVs took vials and vials of blood and all the while making me feel very much at ease. I had this particular nurse for two nights in a row and she was nothing but sweet and kind. She allowed me to sleep through some of the things she had to do to get my vitals and everything. I ended up staying three nights and was allowed to be released Tuesday late evening. All of the food was not terrible lol not that I ate all that much. And the lady who delivered my food three times a day was the most happiest lady I've ever met. The only thing I hated was that because of all the IV lines and medication's and vials of blood being taken from me. I only had a short walk from my bed into the bathroom and couldn't even shut the door and had to wash my hands in the room because I couldn't even reach the sink in the bathroom. The doctor that was on the floor for most of my visit I found him kind of cocky at first, but as I got to know him better and was able to ask questions he turned out to be a pretty good guy. For those who were wondering, I had taken some water pills at home that were verbal apparently that depleted a lot of stuff in my system, including potassium, sodium, etc. So they got that fixed. Then the day before I was released, they found out I had pneumonia and had been misdiagnosed with bronchitis several weeks before and was on the wrong medication's and because that doctor had recommended me take Tylenol when I started running a fever somehow or other, I managed to overdose on Tylenol because it not only was in pill form, but it was also in other medication's. They had given me for the bronchitis so I had a whole lot of things going on, but I made it through. Happy to be home. I know this is a lot to read, but this is and was my experience.

I had just chopped it up to allergies or being rundown from work. But when I started coming home and taking a nap every day, boyfriend said I needed to go get it checked out. It didn't take long of wait to see the doctor. But since there were no rules, they had set up a little chairs with curtains in the hallways, which is where they put me. Wasn't very happy about that hearing other people's medical information and them hearing mine. They diagnosed me with having bronchitis, sent me home with an inhaler and some other medications. The inhaler did make me feel somewhat better, but the other medication's really did nothing for me. Did that for a couple weeks and decided to go to patient first on the other side of Colonial Heights Virginia and they are the ones who sent me to the emergency room in Petersburg at which time I spent several days in the hospital. I hate that I was on all that medication for so long and I wasn't even being treated for what I actually had which turned out to be pneumonia. And since I work around a lot of older people and children, the people I'm supposed to stay away from with pneumonia, especially I was spreading it everywhere and didn't know. So really not very happy with them. I'm probably won't go back. Was it in this facility long enough to use the bathroom. So I have no idea how they looked. And for those that know me, I'm always carrying around a big bottle of water with me no matter where I go. So I did use vending machines to get more water and I had a nice variety.

After doing some bloodwork, patient first found that I had little to know potassium or magnesium in my body plus some other anomalies with my blood work so they sent me straight to the emergency room at Bon Secour in Petersburg, Virginia. After spending hours in the ER, they admitted me to try and get all of my potassium numbers up plus I was on tons of other IV medication's. All in all my visit with patient first was good. I didn't have to wait long. The bathrooms were cleanish lol. It's clean as a doctor's office can be with all the germs. My blood work came back very quickly. And I was on my way to the ER all in within 30 minutes, arriving in the door despite so many people in the waiting room.
