if i could give it 0 stars i would. I really debated posting this review, but it's best i warn others. I got my hair done here by Anita, or should i say burnt off? I asked her for a simple balayage, and she completely fried my hair off. I went in with long hair and went home in tears with my hair above my shoulders. i'm not sure if she didn't know what she was doing or maybe the fact that she had phone calls every 2 minutes or that her young daughter was in the studio and was distracted but this is unacceptable. she also blamed it on the fact that i'm mexican, so that my hair is "hard to work with" before the incident she told me she planned on opening her own studio. please watch out. worst experience of my life. read more

DO NOT RECOMMEND. I went in for a cut and color and left with a butchered, three toned mess. I asked for an ombre with subtle highlights at the bottom. I gave Vasana a picture of what I wanted. I told her I had already tried to remove the hair color and it still needed a bit more work. I knew my old hair color had to be removed before I could make any changes. Before this, I had long black hair down to the middle of my back. She hacked my hair to pieces and did a horrible job on the color. She kept saying that I could come back tomorrow and she would recolor, but I don't want her touching my hair again. I have another appointment at Lux Salon. I'm hoping they can save my hair. read more

Very friendly staff! It's definitely a family business. Vasana is the owner and Jessica her daughter in law also works here. Jessica gave me the best haircut I've ever had ever! Usually I hate hair cuts right after I get them and they eventually grow on me. But the moment I looked in the mirror I was in love! And she did it with such ease to. She was born with this talent! She also dyed my hair. It also came out very nice. Sure the inside isn't the newest or trendiest. But they keep it clean. They also over you water tea and coffee. You can also get your nails done here by a nice lady named Theresa. She will hook you up with some nice nails. Get the gel nails done! They may cost a little more but they're worth it if you're going somewhere nice or just for fun. Everyone here is always smiling and laughing. Very relaxing environment. Vasana herself gave me the best haircut I've ever had. She intuitively knew what my face shape and hair needed, and shaped my hair into a fresh, new style. My hubby told me I looked 10 years younger. I should've done this a long time ago! It was the great coupon deal on the back of my Vons receipt that led me to Vasana's. I can't even tell you what a great deal I got. Even though this was the best haircut I've ever received, it was also the least expensive. I believe this is because Vasana's just opened and she is still in the process of building her clientele and proving her skills to Simi Valley. You need to look past the lackluster decor - this is not a fancy, poofy salon. But they do offer you water, coffee or a beverage. They do have a wide selection of hair products. They are a friendly family staff. They even told me to take home magazines with me. They make you feel like a friend. Vasana is Paul Mitchell trained and has fantastic skills. Her daughter handles make up, facials, eyelash extensions, etc. Her prices are very competitive. They also have a nail stylist and masseuse on staff. I am DEVASTATED - my hair got butchered today! I am new LA from NJ. My stylist in NJ is a Paul Mitchell instructor and educator. She told me to find a PM salon and someone who knows the cut. My hair is or shall I say was 26" long...very thick and curly. It is styled with the halo haircut a Paul Mitchell style. My ends are left heavy and not blended into the halo layers, no thinning whatsoever. Even though Simi Valley is WAY out of the way, I made an appointment with Vasana for a "haircut consultation" as she claims via her website to be a high level Paul Mitchell stylist. I explained over the phone what I was looking for and made an appointment for a consult. I should have known as soon as I walked in to turn around walk away. The salon is a bit dingy and run down, but everyone seemed warm and inviting. I had to wait for about 15 minutes as Vasana was running late....then Vasana wanted me to get my hair washed. I declined as I said I think we should talk first about my hair as I am a new client and this is a consultation. I explained my cut and the reasons why things are done the way they are. If at any time she felt she did not know the cut or that she was uncomfortable with hair of my caliber I wish she would have stated so. She stated she knew the style and preferred to cut my hair dry. I instructed her to only take 1" of the overall length and 2" off the internal layers via the "halo" then face frame the rest. She proceeded to cut the length then started blending and cutting and blending then she even took out thinning shears which I put a BIG stop too. Thinning shears are awful and make the ends look to stringy. I just felt that she didn't know what she was doing so kept cutting and cutting. I had to stop her at one point and when I pulled my hair to the front I lost it. Layers were put in from the top to the ends, over 7" in length was cut off and the ends were severely thinned out. I lost all my length and thickness. I immediately broke down in tears and was hysterical. This will take at least a year to reverse. I will need several haircuts to clean up the thin ends before it is back to the length and thickness I keep it at. Vasana felt badly, didn't charge me and said I thought that what you wanted. I said no, I wanted it the way it was and for you to follow the style that was already there. A trim - 1 " to the length and 2" to the layers. Why was this so hard to understand???? I have no idea what she did...I don't even think she knows what she was doing which is why she kept cutting and trying to blend. My hair is a mess...its so choppy and straggly. I can't stop crying and don't even know what to do. I cant cut it again right now and will just have to let things grow out a bit. read more

Well, a couple of days ago I decided that I would stop by Vasana's because of the positive reviews on yelp and also because a haircut was long overdue. I went here a few weeks ago with a migraine hoping that someone could just give me a neck massage to help. Little did I know, this was a diamond in the rough salon! I went in for an hour massage with JEN and OMG......she rocked my world. She gave me a Thai deep massage that included some amazing stretching. I came out of there without a migraine and feeling AWESOME! Yesterday I had another migraine and went over and Jen took an hour concentrating on my neck, head and shoulders. Brought me hot towels at the end and let me lay there in the dark and also brought me some tea. She has such a nurturing way about her and gives the best massages! She only works Monday and Thursday so plan ahead! read more

I wasn't looking to spend a lot of money on a cut and decided to go come here after reading the good reviews and finding a coupon on their website. The place itself is pretty run down and dirty. I almost walked out as soon as I stepped inside. Vasana did an okay job on my hair... What really bothered me was how her demeanor changed once I presented the coupon to her. She acted like she had never seen it before in her life. She charged me full price which I didn't bother to fight because I just wanted to get out of there. My hair was thick and past my shoulders. I was miserable year round, always so hot. Jessica gave me the best hair cut I ever had. I went totally short and I love it. I told Jessica what I was looking for and I got it spot on. My sister who went with me didn't want me to cut my hair short at all but when Jessica was finished my sister loved the new cut as well. In fact, she made an appointment to have her hair cut too. She won't be going short like I did but we both know she will love the cut. I finally found "my" hairdresser. Vasana's is great and she has continued to give me quality cuts for the few years. Why do I like her? She knows how to give quality business orientated haircuts. She'll take 45 minutes to give what seems like a easy cut but she's actually perfecting it and smoothing out any oddities you may have about your hair. In my industry that involves cold greets and business acumen, every detail of your appearance helps to build your case. Thus finding a salon with a quality focus can be difficult but I found it here at vasana's. Only disclaimer that I have is: I don't know how well she is with moderns style BUT I do know she trains annually at the Paul Mitchell the gathering, so huge props to her for continuing to refine her craft and keep up to date with styles. read more
