Decent club, nice atmosphere with a strip club upstairs. A lot of booths on the bottom floor and a small dance floor with almost looks like it's apart of the front booths and close to the dj. Nice set up. Clean club and clean bathrooms. Came here for a bachelorette celebration and the Bride definitely enjoyed herself. Just wished they played a little more rap/hip hop music. The Managers were very helpful and protective of his working girls.

PENTHOUSE, WHERE THE MAGAZINE COMES ALIVE... Every wo(man)'s fantasy is to devour an epicurean meal while watching beautiful feminine curves with twin peaks and bountiful hind mounds swing gracefully around an elongated pole. Ok, maybe just my fantasy (along with millions of guys) but if anyone could make that happen, I thought the posh Penthouse Club & Steakhouse could. Gnawing on sub-par food while botox-injected females BOOTY SLAP the floor like they're tenderizing a piece of meat was neither classy nor appetizing. I'm sorry but are we auditioning for a Yay Area rap video? Self-taught, Chef Mike Ellis comes from the one Michelin starred Dry Creek Kitchen (Healdsburg) and is hoping to gain a Michelin star for Penthouse. From the pedestrian presentation, the lukewarm food, mismatched ingredients and flavors, and poor execution, it looks like they have a LONG way before they can even be considered a contender for that highly coveted star. F O O D *FOIE GRAS TERRINE w/ Sweet Potato Preserve, Brioche & Fleur de Sel ($24) - 2 STARS http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/DV1b8JEtcwLz_rXiEBwpag?select=JJlk1VIASpp3yM7gg_EwJg Failing in both presentation and execution, the foie gras terrine lacked a luxurious buttery mouth-feel. The out of place sweet potato preserve gave an odd, unappetizing sweetness when paired with the foie gras. *MASAMI WAGYU TRIO: Pork Belly, Sirloin & Cheek ($69) - 2 STARS http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/DV1b8JEtcwLz_rXiEBwpag?select=eFuTva0KfoNmvDn6wbntOg A special of the night, Masami wagyu beef is a Japanese wagyu and American angus crossbreed. Being free-range, Masami has less marbling but still possesses full on wagyu flavor. --PORK BELLY: The best part of the tepid trio but not a success. The pork belly had a good meat to fat ratio, however, was NOT braised long enough to achieve that melt-in-your-mouth texture. An acid should have been used to balance the richness not a sweet pea puree. --SIRLOIN: Underseasoned, the Masami was nothing like the ones I've had. It was slightly tough and very chewy reminiscent to sirloins I've had at middle of the road restaurants. --WAGYU CHEEKS: Properly cooked cheeks should be like butter on your tongue. These under braised cheeks were like a brisket and beef shank hybrid. Lacquering the cheeks was an overwhelmingly salty wine reduction making them even more unpalatable. *BLACK TRUFFLED CREAMED SPINACH ($8) - 4 STARS http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/DV1b8JEtcwLz_rXiEBwpag?select=AbUhz2XRg7Yig1DAbzHkbg The best part of the meal, the creamed spinach was decadent and sinfully good with the crown of crisp melted cheese. *PARMESAN & BLACK TRUFFLE FRIES ($8) - 2 STARS http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/DV1b8JEtcwLz_rXiEBwpag?select=qvINDMhGg9rRkdej353vDQ Arriving lukewarm, the fries lacked a crisp throughout and the earthy truffle essence was nonexistent. S E R V I C E From the cute Asian doorman (Hi, Andy!) to the wait service to the managers, everyone was welcoming and had a smile on their face. Although green and unpolished, the dining wait staff was friendly, attentive, and eager to please (may change if busy). * * *CREDIT CARD USERS BEWARE* * * Per our waiter, it's "company policy" to take (not look but TAKE) your ID when paying with a credit card. This made me very weary especially when our waiter was gone for a good 10 minutes with my credit card and ID. Additionally, I checked my online account activity this morning and found I was charged $3.67 MORE than what I signed for. Not a big amount but nonetheless SHADY!!! MINUS ONE WHOLE STAR. T H E G I R L S (not as pictured in promotional pics online) Nothing extraordinary that can't be found in a SF dance club (average was 6/10) but we had our favorites. Naomi, the ebony beauty had a banging body with a personality to boot; she can definitely work that pole. The engaging Cameron made my friend's bf weak in the knees with her alluring brown eyes. As for the other girls...let's just say, Joan Rivers inspired face lifts, awesomely bad frizzy hair, termite infested thigh high stockings and booty munching butt floss did not help their cause. A M B I A N C E / D E C O R Elegance meets trendy nightclub (like Gold Club), the key imprinted carpets and trio keyhole door takes you into the main entry way with a beautiful cascading diamond chandelier and luminous lighting. Dine upstairs in their 60 seat dining room with beautiful white draped booths with a stripper adorned pole (no bare boobies upstairs). Then, go downstairs to the main floor for more booty popping action while popping bottles ($295-$21,000) and making it rain with your life savings. If you come from Generation (Y) Broke like myself, you can make it rain with your lunch money. P A R K I N G Difficult street parking but valet parking is available. Penthouse: Where the magazine comes alive? Sadly, I wish my fantasy REMAINED a fantasy...

i know... the pic is whatever... * 28 DAY DRY AGED 16oz BONE-OUT RIBEYE ($58)

Fabulous cabaret-type show with performer Arianna. She's a true (veri) Italian from Milan who sang, danced and explained Italian culture as part of the entertainment. She has an amazing voice! She could have been a finalist at the San Remo Music Festival - the most famous singing festival in Italy. She fessed up saying she had been an Italian Mouseketeer! The venue has a bar/lounge to enjoy cocktails then a few steps down further is the theater. You need to be mobile since there are a lot of steps. Seating is first come-first serve. I have to admit that seating is quite tight. You are shoulder to shoulder with your neighbors. Get cozy folks. They typically have magic shows here! If you want to see a historic night club, this would be the venue to come to and enjoy a show. Italiani Veri show was a real treat! Highly recommend it!

The show was an intimate affair between performers and audience as they practically rubbed shoulders over the course of the show in the charming & cozy ambiance of the auditorium. Without giving away the story or any of the non-too-infrequent risqué humor, I will attempt to describe the evening of melodious tunes, mesmerizing voices, heart stopping performances, and smouldering beauties. As we all know, the story is predicated on a young naïve girl who stumbles upon a family of other-worldy beings on her way to a party. Talula (Alissa), the matron of the freaks, endearingly labeled as one that shares an acronym with a Mommy In Love (with) Falafels, took the stage with a seasoned vocal that manifested itself from the get go that screamed "I am the first lady here". The songstress's vibrato was impeccable and seemed to suggest years and years of operatic singing (not that I am an expert in such matters). The buxom Madame Laveaux, played by the bodacious beauty Nicole, is a captivating presence that cannot easily be ignored (nay, make that "never"). And Lordy, when she accentuates those God-given bountiful curves wrapped by a diaphanous viel that do nothing to hide those lovely limbs, clean thoughts are the last thing on my mind (Lord, forgive me my trespasses!). As with most singers, the high vocal note is expected and delivered but Nicole's low in the second half that plumbed the depths of the frequency range was eye-brow raising impressive. And of course, we now have the bumbling and innocent Ann, the *ahem* Virgin, whose merry naïve ways happens to be the raison d'être of this tale. Played by the versatile Alison, it was indeed an eyeopener as she went from a naïve waif to a red-hot vivacious vixen that makes one wonder if she was indeed the same giggling girl at the start of the story. Our very own Luke the gay cannibal playing himself, save for the cannibalism, wowed the crowed with an inspiring, rib-tickling performance ably backed by his powerful vocal chords that filled the room from wall to wall. His odd humanitarianism and zig-zag attributes that disallow him from eating kitty-cats can only be understood from watching the show. (Now pardon me for this is the part where I get a little sketchy as I was busy ...ummm... critiquing the luscious ladies of the stage that my memory doesn't serve me quite as well) The schizophrenic psychopathic Jekyll&Hyde, played by Sam, was a study in contradiction, switching between amiable party host to not-so-amiable personalities. In one of his many avatars was an oblique humorous reference to Mikado that, I am afraid, escaped a majority of the audience. The imposing Edward ("Cullens"?) literally stood above the rest of the cast with his imposing stature helped in no small part by the ridiculously pale visage as befits any self-respecting, luxury-coffin-dwelling vampire. After the highly entertaining performance, I had a little chit-chat with Sean, the Musical-Director, who revealed that the script was somewhat close to it's final form only about 3 weeks before the premiere! I guess the old habits of cramming for the exams in the last minute never really dies --- they merely resurface in various forms that can leave even Jekyll & Hyde scratching their bi-polar heads in absolute bewilderment. In conclusion, I admit my 5-star rating may have been slightly biased by the fact that I know the Composer. For the complete stranger, you might want to expect a 4-star performance as nothing is worse than arriving with an unrealistic sky-high expectation that leaves you wanting for more. Now Hurry along and catch it before it's limited run ends October 31st.

At first the venue seemed suspect, as we walked right past the entrance while looking for it, but never judge a book by its cover. This place is like a hidden gem! I've been to many performances, from mainstream to smaller shows, and there is no lack of lack of talent here. Though I was not expecting my hubby to take me here after our French V-day dinner, I thoroughly enjoyed this show. The theatre is a smaller venue, with maybe 50 seats, but this gave us a chance to feel the intensity and passion of each performer's work. They kept us engaged and entertained, as they sing about all the quirks of dating, love, and lust in a very San Francisco-themed fashion. Our tickets came with two drink tickets, and there was also some yummy-looking desserts being sold during intermission. This show would be a lot of fun with a group of friends making a fun night in town, or with a hubby. Bravo Miscreant's! Keep up the awesome performances!

Both venues lend themselves extremely well to special events of the Gothic-Industrial-EBM genre as well as host AMAZING special events in VAUDEVILLIAN and BURLESQUE fashion. THE SET-UP I've been going to HUBBA HUBBAs for the last 8 years now. They range from Spectacular Spectacular HALLOWEEN PARTIES featuring burlesque performances by the nation's most talented women, incredible music performances including the awesome symphonic sounds of ROSIN COVEN, and the wittiest comedy sketch banter led by Master of Ceremonies, JIM SWEENEY (aka the KINGFISH). In a perfect mash-up of event and venue, Twisted Cabaret is currently being staged at Chinatown's long-shuttered, seedily hip, one-time airer of un-subtitled Bruce Lee films, the Great Star Theatre. Best ticket deals are through Goldstar.com where, for $16 apiece (including Goldstar fees), a laissez faire seating policy allows one to "sit anywhere except the first 4 rows". Watch the show and breathe a sigh of relief; seating within the first four rows might land you onstage, an unwitting participant in some humbling (and hysterical) part of the stage show. Alcoholic drinks are available for purchase in the theatre as is popcorn and cotton candy with a glow-stick center. The show is adult oriented but there's nothing there that wouldn't slay a teen or make you too uncomfortable if you were were sitting beside your own teenage offspring. Laughter is indeed the best medicine and laugh you will. The alcohol greases the wheels, so to speak. As a friend put it "I'm not sure I would've liked it as well without having drank first". So party on. Still not convinced? There's a tongue act. I rest my case.

The show began with a great medley performed by the awesome and talented Darling Misfit band, on the drums, bass, accordian, and piano (and a great sound system in the theater to go along with that). In fact, the music for the entire show was outstanding, a combination of songs and snippets of well known hits (including Willy Wonka's Pure Imagination, My Chemical Romance's Welcome to the Black Parade, and The Beatles' I Am the Walrus) as well as some of Kat's originals. Kat Robichaud brought energy, passion, entertainment, vocal artistry, and lots of personality on stage, and of course plenty of smiles. The show was about 1 hour 30 minutes long with a 15 minute intermission. There was a small bar in the lobby of the Alcazar Theatre for snacks and drinks (but a very limited menu and only cash/venmo payments accepted). Every moment of this "circus" was engaging and unpredictable, in a good way, and the staff and cast members simply added to a wonderful atmosphere and experience.
