You're pretty much left with super expensive rooms or hostels, and I'm too old to be living the hostel lifestyle. Everything I read said don't stay in Mestre because you're not in the heart of Venice and it doesn't feel like Venice since you're not water locked. After reading TripAdvisor reviews, I decided on Legrenzi Rooms and I ended up loving the hotel and Mestre! Location: -It's about a 3 minute walk to the Carducci bus station and about 5 minutes to walk to the Mestre Central tram station where it will take you about 20 minutes to get to Venice. -There is also a grocery store called Simply about a 3 minute walk away where you can pick up water before heading to Venice. -Right outside of the hotel, there are 3 casual bars/eateries if you don't feel like walking. -Piazza Ferretto is the main square and it's about a 5 minute walk away where you will find lots of cafes and restaurants. The square itself is charming, clean, and safe! Rooms: -There are only 9 rooms in this small, yet modern B&B. Unlike other European hotels, I didn't feel cramped and there was actually room to put your luggage and hang up your clothes. The bathroom was clean and the rain shower felt great after a long day of walking around Venice. -There is a mini fridge in the room, so I was able to buy some goodies at the store and keep it in the room. -Wifi is free and I didn't have problems with the speed. Since it's the summer, there isn't a comforter on the bed, but they do have one stowed away if you need it (you won't). The AC was also strong, which was a welcome relief after a day of walking around hot Venice. It was also quiet and our room looked out onto the cute courtyard. Service: -The employees here are nice and helpful! They speak English and will help you with anything you need. -Breakfast is included and the breakfast spread was plentiful with fresh juices, natural yogurts, fruit, pastries, eggs, cheese, cold cuts, cereal, bread, tea, and cappuccino. Bottom Line: -If you're looking to save money, but still want a nice B&B and don't mind not being in the heart of Venice then you should definitely book a room at Legrenzi!

Alessandro and Erico(sp) was SO helpful in trying to locate my lost luggage and even changed our train reservations for us to Florence since our baggage hadn't yet arrived. The room was clean and unique with the loft bedroom. It is small but totally worth the price we paid. I would definitely recommend it to someone that doesn't need a fancy hotel with room service and want to save some money on their Italian getaway.

I was in Venice to stay near my son who was in the hospital after a serious fall while on vacation. I had no idea how long he'd be in the hospital, so I would book 3 or 4 days at a time. Petra managed to arrange things so that I was able to stay in the same room with a minimum of moving. It made a very stressful time a little less stressful. It was nice to have breakfast available each morning. It's a very simple breakfast, but a good start to the day. My room was beautiful, the area is very quiet and the hotel itself is very quiet and clean. I would highly recommend Villa Crispi. Hopefully, I'll get back to Venice on vacation at some point and will definitely plan to stay here again.

The pictures looked great and it sounded wonderful but was really reasonably priced so I was skeptical. Let me assure you it was as nice as advertised if not more. We felt so spoiled in our beautiful room with our incredible view. It is away from the heavy tourist areas which makes it perfect for us. Our host gave us detailed directions and many suggestions for places to visit and restaurants to try. We had the best time and only wish we had been able to stay longer. I'm not sure why Ca' Bonvicini is listed as a cafe since it's a bed and breakfast. I hope this doesn't hinder people from finding it because it is a wonderful place.

The location can be a bit difficult to find when you first arrive in Venice, but makes up for this by the fact that it's set back from the main tourist trail yet still within a ten minute's walk from the Rialto bridge. Staff are very friendly and the breakfast is excellent. One of the rooms actually has its own private roof terrace, but others also have balconies and its wonderful to wake up in the morning and look out over pretty window boxes onto a real Venetian canal!

It has wonderful outside areas to relax in both the front and the back. About a two minute walk from the Rialto Market and Grand Canal and minutes from many of the main sites, this was an ideal spot for us to begin our adventures in Venezia. We stayed in the Vivaldi room which was a top floor, almost attic type room. It was cozy and perfect for our stay. It had an attached bathroom (important to know this when booking a room in Italy) and our little section of the inn was very quiet. Our ceiling window opened to let in the cool breeze and ringing of church bells. Amazing. Breakfast was downstairs in a lovely dining room. Our server (his name escapes me) was so kind and by the second morning remembered how each of us took our coffee. He also came to let us into the B&B when we managed to lock ourselves out one evening, talk about customer service. Our host, Barbara, was incredibly helpful during our visit. She recommended restaurants, offered to call in reservations, mapped out our day-to-day activities and helped us check in to our online flight reservation. One word of caution...this inn is on the third floor with no lift so if you aren't a fan of stairs or are unable to climb them, I would suggest finding different accommodations. The room was beautifully decorated. It was quite large and pleasant especially by European standards. The hotel is well located for touring yet just enough out of the main areas where tourists congregate to be a little quieter and calmer. It is also located a fairly short distance from the dock where the water taxi will drop you or pick you up (60€ from the Venice train station and 100€ from the boat dock at the airport). One of the things to consider if you are carrying very much luggage is how many of those picturesque but steep little Venetian bridges there are between your arrival point and your hotel. There are none between the water taxi point and this hotel.
