When I mentioned I wanted to take photos on the National Mall, she let me know I needed to apply for and receive a permit from the National Park Service (we called it our donation fee to keep from getting bitter with NPS). It took longer than expected to get from one end of DC to another due to an unexpected road closure (dignitary motorcade), so we were running about an hour late. I was so grateful Erin was willing to wait for our arrival on a day that is best described as "unseasonably cold". Erin kept the initial portion of the photo shoot moving as she knew those under 7 years old and over 70 years old were expiring fast in the cold weather. She even was able to coax a smile out of Alexandra (my niece) who at 7 months old believes in "stranger danger." My favorite part of the photo shoot was the time my husband and I got to spend "just us" with Erin as it felt fun (and we got to kiss a lot). The photos turned out amazingly beautiful and I loved her creative shots! Erin knew just where to take us on an overcast day! Erin even had a blueberry pie on hand for Pi Day. It's those special touches that don't scream cheesy, but scream memorable! I included a few samples (and possibly I'm not the best model) but Erin truly made all of look amazing.

She was incredibly easy to work with, very thorough in asking our expectations of pictures, poses, family members, and my vision (links to my pinterest board too). She scoped out our location in advance and made helpful suggestions about natural lighting and doing a first look (which we hadn't considered before). She also suggested a fancy hanger for dress pictures which had completely slipped my mind in the billion things on my planning checklist. The day of she was early to scope everything out and worked with my maid of honor to take pictures of our home's decoration before guests arrived. The first look pictures still make me tear up in happiness at the look my husband gave me and I'm so glad they're forever captured. She did beautiful edits on my dress and solo pictures and kept my grumpy cat of a husband smiling and laughing even when he was very much done having his picture taken. I've gotten so many compliments on the photos and questions if they were taken at a country club, no one guessed it was a backyard. The ceremony photos captured us and our guests along with many family shots we'll cherish as we have family that infrequently visits from out of the country. The candid photos of guests enjoying the evening, drinking and dancing were the icing on the cake (and the cake pictures were great too!). Their documentary style adds so much movement and feeling to photos, which is what we were hoping for as we didn't book any videography for our day. Like I said from the first call, "can all our wedding photos look like stills from a movie?" (and yes, turns out they very much can! And they're stunning!) From the start I feel Erika truly understood what we were going for: none of the old-fashioned, stuffy posed portraits we've taken at so many weddings in the past. Instead she captures people as they are, together, with their loved ones and acting authentically themselves. Even her posed shots feel vibrant and alive, and I love the mix of posed and candid photos we received. We still have pics with all the family members we wanted (like grandma), but so much of what we're seeing captures our guests experiencing this day with joy and laughter. Erika and Loy, as photographers (and people) create such a fun vibe and really know how to make that fun spread through the wedding guests.
