I am a physician who has been referring patients to Dr. Karmali for seven or eight years (maybe…read moremore?) and after years of seeing her work (from the outside) and hearing patients tell me about her, I would say that Dr. Karmali is easily one of the best primary care doctors in town. Her best quality is that she really listens to patients. It's so often that patients come in presenting with one thing, but if you take a few moments to talk with them, you discover that is not the real issue at all. For example a patient coming in with elbow pain, where she finds out it's not just a presentation of elbow pain but really the patient is extremely stressed and clenching their arms at night, causing elbow pain. So the real problem is anxiety not elbow pain. Dr. Karmali actually takes the moments needed to find that out. My patients love her and I appreciate having a skilled physician to refer to when I want to have a MD on board. In a world of seven minute office visits, where you walk in, get a scrip for your "problem," and walk out, it's rare to find a MD who actually practices such caring and quality medicine. I truly can't recommend Dr. Karmali highly enough, Swedish is beyond lucky to have her!

She made me feel comfortable and relaxed every step of the way, talking me through everything. Dr. Karmali is extremely kind, attentive, gentle, humble, and calming. She went to UW Med School, so extra points for that! Another cool thing is that Swedish uses MyChart, an online personal health record system where you can see your medical history, appointments, messages from your doctor, etc. Strangely, when I called to make an appointment, the receptionist said that Dr. Karmali did not have any openings until January 2015. However, when I went online to MyChart, I saw multiple openings between now and the end of the year. I ended up making an online appointment with Dr. Karmali for early December and cancelling my phone-made appointment with another doctor at Swedish. I am so excited to go see Dr. Karmali again soon!

We just moved to Portland so trying to investigate a doctor here but realized the great doctor (Dr. Glynn-Thami) that I had been seeing for five years back in Washington hasn't been reviewed on Yelp as yet. Dr. Glynn-Thami is great, easy to talk to and down to earth. She has over 20 years of practice and is a really calming influence. She refers you to specialists when it's beyond her area of expertise and doesn't unnecessarily medicate. She is my OB GYN and was my doctor all through the time I was pregnant with my now three year old. Given that she is family practice, is convenient that she also sees our toddler for her well child check-ups. If only Dr. Glynn Thami lived in Portland since we've moved here and struggling finding a doctor here... :(

I cannot say enough about how kind, compassionate and truly patient she was through the years. Though I'm in excellent health, I am not an easy patient to deal with as I prefer natural / holistic solutions to everyday health issues, shy away from most vaccinations and only take pharmaceutical drugs as a last resort. Though she's very traditional (and knowledgeable) in her approach to health care, she always listened to my concerns and never tried to force me into anything I wasn't comfortable with. She told me that I needed to see a nutrition counselor and lose weight. I have overall healthy eating habits and work out 5-6 times per week, so it didn't make sense to me that I would have this type of weight gain or chronic heartburn. I got a second opinion and discovered that I have the worst case of h.pylori she had EVER seen in her entire career. In addition, she dug a little deeper and discovered that my thyroid is very very low functioning. With some appropriate treatment, I'm on the road to recovery. I'm beyond disappointed that Dr. Brusvold chalked my symptoms up to being overweight. It was an easy "diagnosis" and it was wrong and has severely impacted my health and well being. I would not recommend this physician.

I was a patient here in 2019 and would never go back. At one point I was hospitalized I had to b…read moreso vigilant a nurse came in to change my central line tubing dropped the unpackaged new tubing on the floor and was going to use it on me. My electrolytes were so mismanaged I ended up in ICU. A social worker tried to bribe me to have a counselor visit me I said it wasn't necessary she sent her in anyway. Discharge transition was horrible one problem after another. My last visit with my Gynoc in the office was the most painful pelvic I've ever had apparently he knew I wasn't going to stay at his practice or cancer facility.

Both visits to Dr. Gorman were to remove skin cancer, one area on my head and one area on my chest. To this day I can not find the area where she operated on my head (i.e. no scar but I know there were 20+ stitches). This time Dr. Gorman removed the skin cancer, stitched up my chest and specifically told me to come back for a follow up appointment "a week from Thursday", which was approx. two weeks later. I arrived for my appointment 10 minutes early and was the only patient in the waiting room. Eventually other patients came and were taken back before me. Fifteen minutes past my appointment time I was taken back to a room where I sat alone for an hour. I should have left. Finally I was seen by some other physician and was told that Dr. Gorman is never in the Bellevue office on Thursdays. Why then did she tell me to come back on Thursday, so she could remove the stitches? Why did her staff schedule me to come on Thursday without telling me that Dr. Gorman will not even be there? Dr. Gorman has a policy for patients who don't show up for their appointment, stating a $50 fee will be charged if you don't show up for your appointment. I'm thinking she owes me $50 - never mind the fact that I had to wait an hour past my scheduled appointment time to be seen by a stranger. I'm having an issue with the incision site and feel like I simply am not important enough to be taken care of. I assure you that I will be billed for having been seen by "Dr. I have no clue what her name is" and leaving the office definitely with unresolved issues. I knew I should have just walked out. Now I guess I need to find a doctor who will give me an explanation of what is going on and take care of my incision site problem. All that to say - in the past Dr. Gorman's skill as a MOHS Surgeon was impressive but a patient should never experience such absentee aftercare.

Second, she always has the knowledge to make the correct answer. This might mean knowing when the specialist needs to be called in. Third, she clearly communicates what needs to happen next. I come from a family of medical professionals and have first hand knowledge of what excellent treatment looks like and this is it.
