In addition to that, the owners at The Fat Donkey were super generous and treated my family going through a hard emotional time and having a special meal together to ice cream for dessert. Not only is the ice cream thick, creamy, and generously portioned, but the owners are kind and deserving of your business.

But I had fallen in love with ice cream from Wisconsin's Chocolate Shoppe, and I learned Rockin Retro served their ice cream! (Chocolate Shoppe supplies independent ice cream shops across the country, including places near my home in California.). Since Rockin Retro was a reasonable drive from my brother's Florida house, we had to stop by here one evening while in Cocoa Beach. This place is amazing! Love the retro vibe: jukebox, Elvis, vintage posters, 50s style booths. And of course the super premium Chocolate Shoppe ice cream! 24 flavors to choose from - there is something here for everyone. My brother got his favorite Iced latte Da, and I I found something I hadn't tried before, Munchie Madness. It's described as "sweet cake batter ice cream with a salted caramel ripple plus Oreos, M&M pieces and peanut butter cups. Wow, it was good. We took our time savoring each bite. After a sunny day at the beach, our group of eight walked to this shop and decided on buying a whole pie for $18 instead of two slices at $5 a pop. Certainly the better deal, but we also didn't want to regret later for not ordering enough. Well, it was a very good decision. We devoured the whole pie in one sitting like a bunch of starving hyenas seeing food for the first time in weeks. There was not a crumb left by the time we finished. The pie was as great as they say, and definitely one of the best I ever had. Just the right amount sour and tartness without being overly sweet. If I were to nitpick, then I would like a slightly thicker graham cracker crust. Not sure when I'll come back to Cape Canaveral again. However, if I do, this may have become stop number one on my list. You can find beaches everywhere, but an excellent key lime pies is a treasure you rarely discover.

The word "ice cream" caught my eye, and even if it was late February, the weather was warm, which is strange, given a week prior to our arrival, it was freezing cold, so ice cream it was. There was a little line in the store, with only one man scooping ice cream for a bunch of people waiting (who was also the cashier). It was funny to see how people would copy each other with choosing the flavor; the lady in front said "sweet cream" flavor, and each successive person behind her said the same thing, even if they were not with her. I stuck to my guns and got the Key Lime Pie Ice cream, which was a great choice! Sweet, creamy and tangy, all the right combo! They also have candies, salt water taffies of all flavors, beer, alligator jerky, Tortuga rum cakes, key lime pies, a huge wall of hot sauces, and gifts. I ended up walking out with a bottle of hot sauce and orange blossom perfume roller ball, which was very nice. Prices were reasonable given this is tourist-town.

Not a "something must be wrong" line. A "we willingly stand here because ice cream is involved" line. My son ordered what can only be described as an engineering marvel: chocolate ice cream in a waffle cone dipped in chocolate and then rolled in either Butterfinger, Heath, or some other delicious candy-coated masterpiece. I honestly lost track somewhere between "dipped" and "rolled." It looked less like an ice cream cone and more like a dare. My daughter got a twist cone rolled in Heath pieces and was equally thrilled. Both kids loved their treats, which is a pretty solid endorsement considering teenagers treat compliments like they're being charged by the word. The place was clean, the staff was friendly, there were plenty of benches to sit and enjoy your sugar-induced happiness, and they even have a rewards program. Because apparently they know we'll be back. We're locals, not tourists, and this place is ALWAYS busy. After our first visit, I finally understand why. With impending weather, I had hoped to get a small cone. Despite sprinkling rain, the staff chose to prioritize the cars in the drive through, completing multiple car orders. These cars had arrived well after I did. It started pouring rain, yet instead of taking my order (I was the only one left) and finishing orders for the five people standing outside, the staff continued to choose to prioritize the cars in the drive through. I left without ice cream, thoroughly soaked. Surely, the five people outside continued waiting in the pouring rain for another 5min. I've been here once before and they were quick to accommodate a large group and fulfill orders. Their soft serve is decent, the draw being the close proximity to Jetty Beach.
