This is probably the best second hand store in town as I've found a lot of great deals, but I've also found cigarette burns and stuff like that on coats. I used to drop in once a week and would occasionally walk away with a NFL/NBA jersey. Once scored a great condition Peyton Manning Jersey and an equally good Randy Moss in the same trip. You can also find some pretty awesome jackets there, once found a roots leather jacket that went for a couple hundred on eBay. Overall I'd say this place is very good at what they do. read more

Out of all the businesses I deal with this is the most money hungry. Over the last 3 years the have dropped their discount coupons from 30% to 20%, have raised their price (some almost double), and developed a frequent shopper "club like" program which gives very little reward. It is always funny to see the occasional Used dollar store item priced higher than the original price. If a person was to look at Giant Tiger prices on small NEW appliances, home decor and pet carriers they would see a similar price to Value Village but get a clean, new, warrantied item. It's funny to see a salt rock on the shelf for $19.99 when you can get the same one in the "As see on TV" Store NEW in the box for $19.99. When you see multiple reviews comparing there prices to BRAND NEW prices, it may be time to shop around. I don't know which sites they use for pricing but those sites are not always correct. I have looked items up on eBay and Amazon and the prices can be double from one site to the next. I thought the whole concept was to give people a chance to get deals and help out local charities. I was shocked to hear how low of a percentage actually goes to charity. read more

Hmph. I have serious bones to pick with Value Village. However, it remains to be one of the few remaining second hand stores in Kingston and I'll begrudgingly cart out to the wasteland of West Kingston every now and then to pick up some new duds. My beef is mainly the price. The prices have really gotten stupid over the last few years...However, they do occasionally have great steals and I have many a shirt, pair of boots and a few jackets that I count amongst my treasured possessions gleaned from VV boutique's aisles. My other issue is purely philosophical in that Value Village is owned in part by (gasp) Walmart. BUT! My groaning aside, I still head out. Two to three hours later and fifty bucks down I'm usually set for another semester. You'd think this place would deliver great value given its name, but prices here are virtually the same as if you bought the same thing new from Walmart (their parent company, btw). Everything is messy and seems disorganized, but some things are useful to get from VV, like individual cutlery sets or random coffee makers (students should pay attention). If you're out of school and can spare a few bucks, you're much better off heading to Walmart at the very least and get something new. read more

I frequent this Value Village a lot, and overall I'm usually satisfied with my visit. I know that people complain about the prices here. Roots and J. Crew tops priced high as $15.99. I saw a worn out Bench sweater here on the weekend with a big stain on the sleeve, yet it was priced at $24.99! I get excited when I see a Bath & Body Works candle (or Yankee candle) on the shelf, yet I open it up to see it's been burned down to almost nothing, yet has a $6.99 price tag! Also, the workers putting out clothes on the sales floor will bump into you and don't care if their clothing racks are in the way of your shopping. They only seem to care about getting the clothes out as fast as possible to get to their break. The cashiers are usually friendly. My only issue was one time a cashier knocked over a glass figurine I wanted to buy, and a piece broke off. She said they would throw the figurine away now that it's garbage. I told her I wanted it anyways (as it was a special gift for my mom) and I would glue the piece on at home. She said she can't sell me broken things. I told her it was out of my control that she broke it, and I still wanted it. She ended up calling a manager, and I got the item for free (originally it was only $1.99). The manager and cashier were both pretty irritated about the whole thing. I didn't mean to be difficult, but I just wanted my find, even if it was broken! I also donate here quite often. I'm not happy that they changed their discount to 20% off instead of 30% off. Donations used to get you 30% off your purchase, now it's 20% off a purchase up to $100. Long story short, there are only a handful of thrift stores in Kingston so I will return (and I usually find a few treasures), but some of their practices could certainly be upgraded. read more

All the stuff is priced top dollar for second hand stuff. The best deals can be found on outdated items and or items that nobody wants. The staff treat customers like crap at this location. The staff will push wheeled racks right into customers without a care. The cashiers are rarely friendly and are easily annoyed. It is the staff that is the worst thing about this location. read more

There is still a deal to be found at this location. We have made many donations as well. The discount coupons issued when donations are made are actually fun to receive. However, I'm not at all impressed with employees who work the drive-thru. Very few actually extend the welcome mat. Yesterday I encountered a disgruntled fellow, pants down pass his butt, nasty and rude. He made no effort to hide the fact that it was unfair that he was being made to work short-handed. To be sure, I was not about to search for a manager that already was evidently not addressing existing work issues. I did decide that whatever future drop-offs I made were going to be directed to other second hand retailers. Suggestion, how about using female workers in this area as well. Just might be an effective attitude intervention. read more

Big store! lots to look at so make sure you have lots of time! The store was very clean and not very cluttered which is a nice thing for a second hand store. Good selection for things like cookware ( $50 pan almost new for $7!!!) and dining sets, the furniture section was not huge but we got two GREAT pieces for $35!! the clothing selection was large but not much i really wanted to buy lol. read more
