Which is a shame, because the food was that good. Standouts included the passatelli in brodo and the tripe. I swear the broth tasted exactly like my Nonna's broth (the passatelli themselves a bit different but good nonetheless). The tripe were like Italy's version of the Louisiana etoufee. The staff were super friendly and helpful, sending over their English speaking waitress to ask if we needed any help.

We had an 8 course meal, and all of it was great. It started out with dry salami, prosciutto and bread. Then we had sauteed mushrooms in olive oil, crostini three ways, a chopped salad with truffles, awesome, and a mushroom pizzette. Following this we were served agnolotti with truffles, and linguine with mushrooms. Followed by extremely tender steak, cooked to medium rare deliciousness with thick cut french fries, and then we had a light salad to wash it down with thar was tossed in balsamic Italians eat the salad last, I thought that was interesting. During the meal we had both white and red wines, frizzante and natural water. For dessert we had Panna cotta, and another custard like dessert whose name slips my mind. And espresso. To end the meal we were served Limon cello. Following such a fantastic meal I was literally in a food coma. The restaurant had a simple yet elegant decor, and it also happens to be located in Michelangelos hometown. The views at the restaurant are supposed to be stellar, but most of Italy is a postcard, so Im not surprised. However when we dined, it was later in the evening and very dark, so I was unable to appreciate the view. Literally one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Great "local-style" food of the region. Quality and taste is high, customer service awesome, time to wait and low cost all positive. It's all there!! Their specialty is pizza (amazing) but they also serve many awesome dishes of this unique region of Italy (pumpkin tortellini, amazing grilled beef, etc). They have a few local beers and wines on tap, but if you want Lambrusco, a specialty carbonated wine of the region, it's by bottle only. Ample seating inside the restaurant, and tables for large groups or singles/couples. However, since it's off the beaten path no one spoke English here. They are very friendly and pleasant but, expect a lot of pointing and nodding when ordering. Getting there requires a car / taxi - it's away from the town center and away from any malls. Again, 4/5: I highly recommend La Casona when you're in the Ferrara area. I've been consistently impressed by this simple neighborhood-style restaurant. Bravo Casona!!

It is simple. It is more like a little neighborhood wine bar (which it is). It doesn't even have a web presence. And it is off the beaten path. But it is worth a Yelper's highest praise. The food is fantastic. Especially the pumpkin ravioli, venison and all seafood dishes are unforgettable. The collection of local and not so local wine is wonderful. We packed a car load with Alessandro's wine recommendations, but all evaporated quickly. I am now a fan of Bosco Eliceo frizzantes. Too bad I need to go to Italy to get this wonderful wine. Non of the Boston wine importers seem to carry it.

First they start you with appetizers. Then the first course, I ordered the al forno, and my wife the Ragu with mushrooms both were really good and the portions were big. Then they served you second plate of protein, and my wife got the grilled steak with was made to perfection. I had a little translation problem and ordered the frog "rane" (which sounds like steak in Spanish), and although was okay I am not a frog kind of guy. We were so full and satisfied with the other delicious plates (and assume full responsibility for the ordering misunderstanding) that I am giving this restaurant 5 star. It also helps that the full check was only 34 euros.
