My synagogue growing up was a very nice, standard, concrete building across the street from a public middle school on Long Island. I can't even compare my old synagogue to Plum Street! I've never been in a Catholic cathedral in my life, but this is what I always envisioned them as! Golden, historic, EXTREMELY high ceilings, a balcony for the choir/orchestra, long pews, the smell of candles and hard-wood... the ambiance and warmth of this place just surrounds you! I've been to a few Shabbat services as well as Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashannah. Unfortunately my budget can't fit in the annual dues beyond my free 1st year (for being under 35) so until I can afford to be an official congregant again, I'll have to visit on a tour. I highly recommend that anyone - gentile or Jew, tourist or local - visit this temple! It is a part of history, not just for Reform Judaism in the US but for Cincinnati and architecture as well!

The sermons and other commentary was incredibly stimulating -- along with the liturgy, i found myself with a lot to reflect upon. (That's the purpose in many ways, isn't it.). The prayers -- humanist in focus -- are definitely different from the more traditional service i'm used to, but I could relate to each one and many of them touched my heart. All were beautifully written --prayer as poetry. If you come, come with an open mind. I hope you'll like it, too.

Interested in the humanistic qualities of Beth Adam, I decided I would head out to Loveland and give it a chance, and I am very glad I did! From the outside, the building is very unassuming, minus the stained glass windows which are made to represent the big bang theory. Once inside, there is a library, a number of different pieces of art and remembrance pieces on the wall, and the main area of congregation. Overall, the inside of the building is very modern and really gives you a sense of just how well modern Judaism has adapted to our changing world. The only thing that stops me from giving Congregation Beth Adam a five star review is that it is just entirely too expensive to become a member here. However, if you are in the Cincinnati area and looking for something a little different in terms of a place to get spiritual, I would highly recommend checking this synagogue out. The people are friendly and very welcoming of guests, and are happy to answer any questions you may have.

The rabbi is very thoughtful adding somewhat of an east coast ethos to his erudite Jewish training that keeps things very interesting. I stumble along to follow the Hebrew throughout the service but find the Shabbat respite to be worthwhile even with my limitations. It is worth mentioning the building and facilities are superlative.

I go to the Jewish Discover Center with my two granddaughters, age 4 and 7, for their cooking…read moreclasses. I love to cook and the folks here who put on the cooking classes do a tremendous job teaching the kids about cooking and the cultures whose foods we are preparing. The kids get real hand-on experience preparing foods. The two sessions they have been in (while I was in town) were France and Mexico. Recipe cards are available for the children to take so they can cook their new foods at home with their families. What fun!
