The Central Valley Ronald Mc Donald House has a special place in my heart as since my undergrad…read moredays in college as I would volunteer my time frequently. Now that I work an 8am to 5pm plus, caring for niece and some weekends I work long hours, I haven't had a chance to volunteer my time as I would like. However, during my time here I mostly made sure the families who were here had everything they needed to be comfortable whether it was home cooked meals to gardening. I love gardening so I would plant flowers or make sure the weeds are pulled so families can go outside and look at a well kept garden. Even small stuff like that definitely goes a long way and even the little children love it and sometimes the little ones would want to help out. I helped put on a movie night in which at the RMDH I watched Frozen for the first time so this place will always be special to me. I cannot wait to come back and volunteer my time here. If you have the opportunity to do so I would highly recommend. I love Valley Children's hospital and what they do for our kids because you never know when you will need RMDH. Definitely a great place to give back to the community!

Also got to meet Mama Mary in the mailroom and she was so sweet and I love to see how involved she is.

Cookie selling was a major role in being a Girl Scout due to there are very limited fundraising that can be done per bylaws. Getting parents and kids to do cookie boo thing was a challenge and best believe my daughters, myself and my mother were all out every weekend selling boxes of cookies to all the hungry customers. This taught the kids to work hard and money handling skills, how to bring in a crowd they would even make signs and commercials. The money made from these fundraisers go towards the kids going to camp and other fun activities throughout the year. They earn badges and patches trophies for doing various community activities and help around town. My moms troop loved going to the elderly communities and read stories with them and have lunch. Girl Scouts have been a major part of my daughters lives growing up. One just graduated highschool the other is half way there. I am thankful for a program that brings the families closer. I can say there are some things that need working on such as the new cookies are more expensive and taste much different then they use too. And I see the change in my fave box thin mints. The old packaging has the silver case so they don't melt and can last longer. This box has a clear wrapping I'm not sure if this is a permanent change but I hope they go back to the original packaging. For a non profit company they should focus more on the kids and less on the money. The kids don't see most the money Girl Scouts company brings in. Troop leaders buy all the patches and awards and vests etc with cookie money and or like my mother her own money. If you and your child want to join see your local chapter. It is a very good experience for parent and child. Girl Scouts company please bring back the old recipes and packaging.

I spent some time volunteering in the kitchen at Fresno Mission City Center. I enjoyed my…read moreexperience. The kitchen staff was very knowledgeable and professional, I felt like I was instructed well and was able to do my task, and then find another task to do in order to stay busy during my volunteer time. The only suggestion is about is the software application they had to sign up, check in and track hours for volunteer time. It was not functioning correctly. The software made it difficult to not only sign up to volunteer, but to sign in, as well as track my time and print out my hours. I had to call to sign up and had to sign in on paper, listing my personal information on a paper sign in sheet viewed by others, then wait for staff to input and print my hours. Staff had to print my hours for me. I feel that if they had a better software program, more people would sign up.

The instructors are incredibly caring, and what really stood out is that every staff member knew all the children by name--even those outside their own classes. Leaving my son so soon after maternity leave was especially difficult, but they gave him so much love and care that it quickly put my mind at ease. Yesenia and her team have provided my son a safe, LOVING, and fun place to explore, develop, and create friendships while my husband and I worked our long (more than 8 hours) hours. It always felt like every team member knows every kid and their parents regardless of whether that kid was in their class or not. You can see from their profiles that many of them have worked there / with each other for a long time. They reminded me all the time that they work with kids for such a long time that changing their soiled underwear while potty training is not a big deal. For awhile, my son kept asking about his 'red daycare' and his 'old friends' as we painfully transitioned to the new daycare. He still remembers Ms. Patty loving a song as it comes on the radio and he enjoys reading the Pete the Cat book that Ms. Angelica read. Our new daycare has great, friendly kids and the staff is reliable. But nothing can really fill the shoes of this daycare. They were such a big part of our lives and I will miss them dearly.
