the best decisions I made for my health and fitness. I was already a relatively active person but I…read morewas curious to see what I'd gain from a personal trainer. From research, Ben looked like one of the top reviewed trainers in Manchester yet very reasonably priced. I have learned so much in the 18 months I've been training with him. Ben focuses on weight training - the area of the gym I used to shy away from! - but as well as an instructor you effectively get a nutritionist, life coach, and all round lovey guy! He somehow manages to make every lesson enjoyable, and the learning I've gained on diet and wellness will stay with me throughout life. I do both single and double lessons with my partner - I really enjoy both types. Having rarely done weight training before Ben (I pretty much only did cardio) I will also admit I was slightly skeptical when I started; to find I'd been training the wrong way pretty much all my life! Keep with it and you will come to the same conclusion as I did!

I was very apprehensive about going to the gym…read moreat all but Ben was very patient and accommodating and was able to tailor a training plan around my capabilities and goals. He is very knowledgeable and it is clear he has a lot of experience which means that he is able to deliver a personalised and focussed training to each of his clients. Would highly recommend Ben to anyone.

Six months ago... I reflected in the mirror and concluded I was no longer in shape. Unless, of…read morecourse, that shape was Butter Mountain. Six months later... and I might not be what you'd call a ripped Adonis but at least I'm no longer the Lord Mayor of Lardsville. And for that, I guess I have Camp Detox to thank. The gym has all the equipment you'd expect: free weights, and more machines than you can shake a sweaty towel at. But it's the friendly atmosphere that to my mind makes it special. Everyone's welcome. There are various classes too and there's free advice for anyone who asks. Plus there are no expensive contracts: you can pay by the day or by the week, or fork out £20 for the month. That's not a lot to pay for feeling fitter.

I actually feel i am getting fit for Ollie some days and not myself. besides the nutrition advice he has been there supporting and motivating me from day one and I am in my own eyes one to deviate from the plan but with Ollie's help he has kept me on track and i feel fitter than I did 15 years ago !

I have been trying to lose weight for the past few years with no success. So panicked was I, that I…read moredecided to join the gym. Although I felt fitter, I had no success in weight loss. I have been approached by many personal trainers and have even booked appointments only for them to cancel them and then blow me off! So I was wary when Harry approached me. Once he started talking I had no reason to be! Harry is extremely honest and hardworking. Most personal trainers don't even look at you properly but Harry is with you every step of the way. He is focused and has a step by step approach, starting from what you can do then slowly making exercises that much harder. He is extremely flexible and is more than happy to work around your daily routines. Don't be scared by his focused attitude, he does have a sense of humour and is extremely amicable, as I've witness from his amusing jibes that I'm giving him a workout rather than he giving me one, where our preliminary exercises are concerned! Harry is extremely knowledgeable where diet is concerned and was quick to put mine on its head and lead me in the right direction. I am extremely lucky that Harry approached me because he gave me the guidance and help I needed and still need to reach my goal. I don't see Harry as a personal trainer more as a friend that pushes me and recharges my optimism by egging me on to push my limits. He is also very considerate and is always concerned for my welfare. As I've said if you want to lose or certain amount of weight, want to tone up or just want to be fitter but don't know where to start or need guidance Harry Pointon is your man!

Harry's training is really effective. He gives you lots of support and encouragement.read more

I'd been a traditional gym member for years after getting into the habit of going whilst at…read moreuniversity, but I became aware that I wasn't really pushing myself and had seriously plateaued fitness-wise. It was a trip to see some friends down in London which changed all this. Walking past Clapham Common I saw a large group of people wearing coloured bibs running and doing different exercises whilst under the instruction of three blokes in camouflage trousers. Making out that their t-shirts had 'BMF' on them I was intrigued so did an internet search (http://www.britmilfit.com/) when I got back home. Fast forward three-and-a-half years and I've not been in a gym since. The great outdoors has become my cross trainer, treadmill and step machine (cheesy yet true). The BMF philosophy is simple: outdoor fitness with like-minded folk by qualified and passionate former military instructors. Though some people might think this sounds intimidating it's not at all, everyone is welcoming and encouraging regardless of your fitness level. Personally, I love going to Heaton Park in particular. Not only because it's a huge park with different terrains and parts of it are stunning, but the people who attend every week are one of the main reasons you keep going back. Everyone motivates you and you can have a laugh during the sessions, all whilst getting the heart pumping and fat burned away. The aforementioned bib colours correspond to your fitness level with beginners (blue), intermediate (red) and advanced (green). Classes start with a warm up followed by at least 50 minutes of individual, paired and team exercises, ending with a cool down and stretches. The beauty of the classes is that no two are the same, each one differs in park location and exercise choices, that's what keeps it interesting compared to a standard gym session. Tip: Your first class is free and there is no obligation to join. Just fill out the online form to enroll before you go. Tip: A decent pair of outdoor running shoes is all you really need. Other than that, an old t-shirt on top and shorts, tracksuit bottoms or running leggings are ideal. In winter, base layer top and bottoms are recommended as well. Tip: Some parks also hold a dedicated 'Running Club' session which is at the same time as a normal class.
