C-Hill is the "C" representing Carson City under the American Flag located on the east facing…read moremountain side that is visible throughout most of town. This is a popular family and dog friendly hike that although can be year-round, I would not recommended during the summer months due to extreme heat and potential to run into rattlesnakes. Try to hike in dry conditions, as mud accumulates after a storm, making the trail slippery and if you do decided to venture in the warmer months go early to beat the heat. Views above the C and below the Flag are spectacular and breathtaking to be able to see Mt. Rose to the North with panoramic views of Carson City and Minden to the South. Be sure to bring a pair of binoculars to be able to spot a bird, some deer or check on your house while you are eating your lunch on the bench atop the mountain. The trek may seem rather simple with it being round trip approximately 2 miles but elevation quickly gaining at 882 feet straight up the mountainside, so take your time and enjoy the scenery. Be sure to bring H20 and maybe a snack or lunch for when you reach the top. There are a multiple ways to get to C-Hill but I will share a few and of course you may find a few others: Route #1 - We Use This One C-Hill McKay Drive Trailhead off of Terrace Street. Take Carson Street to W 5th Street until it dead ends onto Terrace Street (make a left) to McKay Drive. Once on McKay Drive immediately turn Right. This paved road quickly dead ends at a dirt road. There is space for a few cars. Route #2 - East Face The shortest (and probably steepest) is from S. Ormsby Blvd, right across the street from Carson Middle School. Carson Middle School is pretty easy to find. Take Carson Street to King Street to Carson Middle School. Once on King Street, pass the Middle School on the right, and immediately turn on S. Ormsby Blvd. This paved road quickly dead ends at a dirt road. There is space for a few cars. Enjoy as we have over the years whether it be on President's Day to salute the flag, to get a birds eye view of our beautifully growing Carson City, maybe to spy a herd of deer or just enjoy the picturesque Mt. To celebrate Memorial Day, we climbed C Hill to salute its great American flag. Rising prominently…read moreon the west side of Carson City, the summit of C Hill is less than 1.5 miles from the silver dome of the state capitol. We parked at the end of South Ormsby Boulevard across from the track at Carson Middle School. Our climb followed the steep rocky east face, until we reached Old Glory, about 200 feet from the top. The 8,000 square-foot American flag is made of bright red, white, and blue sheet metal, riveted to a sturdy steel frame. It is set just above the white-washed Carson City "C", overlooking the capital city of the silver state. We descended C Hill on its west side, which was longer, but not as steep, as our ascent. Altogether, we hiked up about 1,000 feet and covered about 4 miles. This Memorial Day, our visit to the American flag on C Hill left us feeling proud of our accomplishment and patriotic for our country.

The shade is minimal and the parking is usually ample, but sometimes can be a hike. I'm not too sure why anyone would be Yelping a Sports Complex like the Pete Livermore Sports complex, but I guess we all have our vices. It's got decent bathrooms and it has wonderful views. If you are planning a tournament here. Do yourself a favor and schedule it during the spring or fall. The sun during the summer can be brutal. And don't think of doing anything stupid out here. The Carson cops were on scene real quick last night when a tussle happened between two teams at the tournament we were at.

Today, Tuesday, May 28, 2019 I went to the Carson City Parks & Recreation Department. I had two…read morequestions about parks in the municipality's limits. The first is known unofficially as "Roop Street Dog Park" and is located at the southwest corner of South Roop Street and East 2nd Street. The second is right across from the Nevada State Library & Archives, on the east side of North Stewart Street between East Musser Street and East King Street. I had posted on the Yelp message boards with questions as to what these parks were called, so I could look them up and check in on Yelp with not many answers. A check of the Carson City website also yielded no clues, despite its numerous listings for its parks. I had gotten tired of not knowing, so I decided to pay the department a visit to find out, once and for all. I had first gone to Carson City Public Works, which was next door. That was where my GPS led me, but it wasn't clear. They told me I was close, and then pulled out a laminated map to show me exactly where. They must get this a lot, lol! They said GPS also leads customers for Parks & Recreation to Public Works. Ok! I then drove to the correct address. It was late, at 4:50 PM, just before closing, so I rushed to get here. I went in, and no one one was there. The sign said to ring the bell. I didn't, but chose to sit down to search for the locations of the parks on my phone, to have ready to show them. A few seconds later, a gentleman came out. I told him my situation. He immediately knew of the park when I said South Roop Street near East Second Street. He said that patch of land belongs to the state, but there was no name, as fair as he knew. He said people did use it for off-leash dogs though (even though it is not enclosed). Then I described the second park. I said it was across from the Nevada Archives, and he did not know what I meant. Then I said Nevada State Library, and I said on Stewart Street. He immediately knew that one as well. He said that was also state land, and he was not sure of the name. I asked I had asked the librarian across the street, and she did not know either. We then briefly discussed the move of the Carson City JAC headquarters from this address to the end of the street. I was very satisfied with my trip today, and thanked the employee for his help. I went to check in on Yelp, but this location did not have a page, so I had to create one in my car.
