Let me start by saying: I'm comparing this campus to the other EPCC campuses…read more EPCC... the best place to start. Great slogan and marketing team that came up with that one. They have commercials that not only will you see on TV and hear on the radio, but you may also occasionally catch one at the movie theaters locally. It's a simple marketing idea... so simple that it just gets stuck in your mind. I've even had people repeat it back to me during a conversation in the form of, "Well THEY do say EPCC is the best place to start," not realizing "they" is EPCC. Clever, clever. But it is one of the better places to start in the area especially if you plan on transferring to UTEP or NMSU. Cut your costs in half for the first two years of college? And have some sort of certificate to signify the time, money, and coffee you spent on the two years you weren't working a full-time job? Sounds like a deal. I have been a student of EPCC, but I stuck mostly to the Valle Verde (Eastside) and Transmountain (Northeast) campuses because they offered the most diverse amount of classes and they happened to correspond to the area that I was living in at the time. So a total disclaimer, I have never taken a class at this particular campus and can't tell you what the classesor teachers are like. But in reality, a teacher at this campus may teach at another, and all English 1301 classes require the same books... so they can't be that different. Basing it on previous experience with EPCC teachers and classes, they're exactly what you'd expect. Sometimes you get a really great teacher with tons of knowledge and enthusiasm for the course and sometimes you don't. Recently I've been helping my boyfriend's daughter sign up for classes at EPCC and jump through all the hoops required to get her into college. And since we live closest to this particular campus, this is where she landed. There's some things I really like about this campus (like the fact that the cashier, financial aid, and other administrative services never really have lines) and some things that I really don't (like the lack of classes offered here). This campus is much smaller than the campuses I went to. Because of how far out it is and again, that it's so much smaller they obviously have less students here which can be an advantage. Smaller classes. But it's so small there are no restaurants inside, just a tiny bookstore that offers Starbucks Frapuccinos and personal-sized White Cheddar Cheez-It bags (not sure who decided the White Cheddar ones are better than the originals) and a few other snacks. And unfortunately there really isn't anything in walking distance so if you plan on using the Metro to go to school, bring your own snacks or be prepared to get an Uber. The counselors are a joke. I hate to say that, but they are. They do their job, but just the bare minimum. And they aren't the friendliest. You know, go if you have to for new students/transfers, but do most of your research on EPCC's website. They take a lot of time to tell you things you can just as easily (actually it's easier) found out on your own. The library is also on the smaller side, but it's nice and has the best wi-fi signal at the school. It's also quiet enough and a good place to meet with a group for some collaborations. All in all it's an okay campus. EPCC IS a good place to start, decently priced, and this campus is just fine if it's in your vicinity.

But also, i love the setup of the place. Its a considerably smaller campus compared to Valle Verde. Of course, VV is the biggest of them all, but every time i went to VV for something, i felt really lost and always had to ask the security guys and hope for the best when i try to follow the directions they give me lol. But NW is basically 2 main areas that is either the library or the main offices with admission, bookstore, finamce, and all that jazz. So you really cant go wrong with finding anything you need. Plus, as far as I've seen, most of the night classes that works out for my work schedule seems to be here. Thanks to the awesome professors who are considerate enough for us! Gotta give a shout out to Prof. Baca for Chemistry! He only has the intention of helping everyone in his class succeed plus always tries to get everyone out as early as the lecture lets. I HIGHLY suggest taking his night class.

Parking is always a headache at the Rio Grande spot since its downtown, and goodluck finding the right building for the services or classes you need there. Special shout out to the counselor here, Gloria Miller!! That woman knows how to truly counsel a fresh off the boat student like me and break down every lil step we need to know! From registration processes to financial aid to breaking down the fees we can expect to deciding which degree works best for you. She will help you through it all! She also knows everything an active duty members such as myself needs to know and the exemptions that come with it. So she will save you so much heartache and time to get your education going! I wish i made the decision to see her a long time ago. I wasted too much time with a bunch of other random counselors between the rio grande and valley verde campus! Really cool hang out/studying areas all over the building too. With student's arts and crafts diaplayed all over and comfty chairs indoors or outdoors, im so happy this will be my place of studying for the next couple of years.

This is one of the best things about El Paso...the community cares and takes the time to show what makes them proud of their city! I loved that my kids saw how much the campuses supports each other since we were selling for Tippin Elementary. The Brown campus is big! The shape is like an airplane and it's 2 stories, they have a huge awesome cafeteria decorated in my opinion like Simpsons land with cute fronts and diner style booths. They have a large gym with volleyball at the moment utilizing it and a CrossFit program! The most impressive to me was the STEM program in the new tech hall. They have group classes and a fab lab with Lego robotics and several 3D print labs. This is definitely a school that invests in their students future. It's also the only EPISD STEM certified middle school (6-8 grades) that enables them to earn college credits. They also have the program in dual language as well. We are definitely happy that this is another great option for our kiddos and had no idea that all this exists since we just started our schooling journey. So glad our tax dollars show up in the state of the art classes and curriculum. And it all started with a box of chocolates..."you never know what you're gonna get".

Over all, I had a good experience considering I was there for such a short period of time. They were able to help me and test me to see where I needed help since the private school I came from was so behind on math and science. They then worked with Hornedo to make sure the next year I would be caught up so I would do well in high school! Just hoping they fixed the sewage issue, as that was a very big problem and made the entire school smell.

Its parking lot is okay and when it overflows there are parking lots available on both sides crossing the street from this facility. I like that they feature a small coffee kiosk. The only con is that usually there is only one person serving coffee and the lines are long. The restrooms are ample and they feature one handicap shower.

As a former student, I would to address my comments, concerns, questions, and criticismn just as the principal would ask after addressing issues. First, I would like to share positive comments about the campus. This school has outstanding teachers that take pride in their role for these young women. Many students have been successful thanks to our teachers. In my opinion, this was the only thing that stood out to me from my years as being a student here. Next are my concerns. My first concern is how the campus functions during extreme climate. The school needs to do a better job with the air conditioning and heating system throughout the campus. Students constantly complain about the freezing classrooms or the hot gym which leads to my next address. Here at YWLA, there is a strict uniform policy. One thing that the administration is constantly reminding us about is outerwear such as jackets, hoodies, sweaters, anything meant to keep your daughter warm during the cold season. It worries me that the school cannot keep up with keeping our students warm during the winter or cool during the summer. Along with the uniform required for your daughter comes with an expense. The leadership, casual, and wellness uniform, along with Spirit wear can costs parents an excessive amount of money. For some families, uniforms do not arrive in time for the school year. With this issue, it can cause your daughter to get detention or a write up. Besides these critical items needed for your daughter to succeed at this campus, the academics and athletics might not meet you or your daughter's expectations. Academically, YWLA has only few students per grade level receive A-Honor Roll. Coming from a school that tries to emphasize outstanding scores on exams, it might not be satisfactory for some. The school does present challenges as it does have students participate in advanced classes. It concerns me how students have the potential to grow academically and yet do not show progress sometimes in curriculum. On the other hand, if your daughter is a competitive athlete and is willing to join UIL sports, this campus may not satisfy that. This school used to have many sports for both middle and high school. A few years later, sports such as softball, wrestling, soccer, and tennis were removed from middle school and basketball and volleyball were removed from the high school. I will acknowledge that the high school has been successful in certain sports but the middle school athletics program does not deliver the same results. Unfortunately, the number of girls participating in a sport at this campus is low. Teams have become smaller and try-out sports don't seem like it. This what also caused high school basketball and volleyball to be removed due to the lack of students to complete a freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity team. I do not have any questions for this campus but I do have some final words of criticism. I believe the administration for this campus is not at its best. I found the principal, assistant principal, counselor, and security guard to be mostly disrespectful to many students. These administrators enforced rules in a way that students did not appreciate. Small choices can turn into ISS or a referral. As much as they try to keep students in check, they create an environment for students not to feel comfortable or able to express themselves. For being a small population school, I believe these girls deserve adults who show kindness and not portray fear to some. I understand the academy has strict policies, but many rules are not fair. The campus has girls who get bullied because of their interests or the way they express themselves. During my time there, many girls struggled with mental-health and I have never seen a school with students that haven't been to reach out to an adult. I hope my opinion on the counselor can change because I am disappointed that so many had to struggle when they could've received help from someone who acts trustworthy. That is all I have to say for this school. I hope this serves you as a realistic outline of what to expect if you decide to enroll your daughter here.

While this location is specifically on Ft Bliss, this review is not just for that satellite campus,…read morebut for the University as a whole. Park University is located in Parkville, Missouri, which is basically Kansas City. It's a real, accredited school with a real (main) campus that includes dorms, student centers, chapels, medical clinics, cafeterias, gyms and classrooms etc etc. See the photos section to not only see pictures of the Ft Bliss location, but for the MAIN campus in Missouri as well as a cool map showing where every satellite campus is located. Park University offers degrees that can be obtained 100% Online. HOWEVER, I must say, this University is a real school, it is NOT, a "diploma mill". The kind of FOR profit schools that basically have you pay them a certain amount and they just email you a letter with a degree attached to it. Seriously. This is NOT one of those schools. In fact, at this particular location, (on this area there's actually TWO "campuses": 1 on Ft Bliss and 1 in the City of El Paso) Park University has actual professors that offer real face to face, sit down classroom instruction type classes. There's around 20+ classes offered every semester (in person) and literally 100s offered online. If you look at the photos, there's a bulletin board showing what summer classes were offered. Everything from Senior level (400s) economics and business school type things, to Freshman Writing Seminars (EN105), and many others in between. And again, if you can't find something you want (or need based on your degree plan), there's 100s of classes online. Or maybe you just prefer online better? Either way, Park University try's to make sure whatever method is most suitable for you to be successful and to learn, they provide. In person Classes are normally twice a week with everything ranging from Tuesday/Thursday, Monday/Wednesday, or maybe JUST Friday? Just Saturday? Yea that right hard working Americans, SOME classes are offered on Saturday as well so you can still make it. The weekend classes were all morning time. And most of the weekday classes started usually around 1700 (5pm) and went as late as 2200 (10pm). And yet again, I remind you that you can be 100% Online and just stop by the locations for student advisory and assistance. Let's talk pricing. Now everyone knows college can be expensive, but I think we can all also agree that it IS worth it in the end, and it will ultimately pay itself off after so many years of your exciting new career. So let's look at some things regarding finances: Civilians: I've sworn to give my life in order to defend your freedoms. But I can't help ya on this one. Just like ANY school, Park costs $$$. Military Spouses / (maybe) dependents: Its still costs get smart, but your group receives a slight discount in each credit hour. Retired / Prior Service Military: It's getting better! You guys don't pay full price, AND you pay less than the kids/spouses! That's a big discount, but hey - don't y'all have the GI Bill anyways? Sneaky veterans. Active Duty Military: Y'all do a lot for your country, and Park has Promised to give back to you. Many of you skipped college and grabbed a rifle. Park hasn't forgotten your sacrifices and they hook you up. As active duty Soldiers know, WHILE on active duty, you can receive what's called TA (Tuition Assistance). If you're not familiar with it, contact your Go Army Ed or Education Center ASAP. But once you sign up and get approved, the Army will pay UP TO $250 per credit hour, not to exceed $4500 dollars OR 5 actual classes per calendar year. Now then, Park University, like most schools, charges something like $700+ per credit hour. HOWEVER, for Active Duty Military ONLY, they set a FLAT RATE of $250 per credit hour, for any and every class, for as many classes as you ever take. They realize the Army doesn't give you enough money, so they give you approx $500 discount PER HOUR, which equals about $1500 discount PER each class you take. Now then, you still buy your own books, and grades are gimmies: you can be in Iowa or Iraq - you kiss an assignment and you get a F, period. But still, besides books, Park makes sure that the Soldier, while paying for our freedoms with their lives, doesn't have to pay out of pocket just to earn a degree. And yes you read correctly: 5 classes a year. Look, the Army will pay for your school, but they ain't trying to hire and employ FULL TIME students. We got wars to fight homie! So 5 classes a year is plenty so that you still earn credits, but you still work and serve the country that's paying for that school! So starting. From scratch, it'll take ya about 6-8 yrs for that bachelors. Which is FINE, because you're staying in until 20 years anyways, RIGHT?! Right. Park will also evaluate any and all transcripts you have from other educational institutions and apply them towards your degree! That includes military schools as well! Oops. Text Limit. #ParkPiratesMayne!
