THE SHORT VERSION…read more Almost 14 years ago, I had my hair cut by Anna Constantinou for the very first time. I have never gone to any other hairdresser since. THE LONG VERSION. Almost 14 years ago I had not had a haircut in almost three years. My hair was long and every now and again I just trimmed my own ponytail. One very windy and rainy day my hair was whipping me in the face so much it hurt, because of the wind. I happened to be passing Constantinou's and I went in. Luckily Anna had the time to deal with me, and deal with me she did. She instantly knew I had been trimming my own ponytail and wasn't taking care of my hair or even myself that well. The hair can tell someone a lot about their general health, and my hair was thinning, breaking and in generally poor condition. Anna was very kind, caring, considerate and a good listener. She refused to immediately cut my hair very short because sometimes people regret such a radical cut and by then it is too late. So she cut it shorter but left it quite long. And richer and thicker because of the quality of the shampoo and conditioner she uses in her salon. But the service provided did not begin and end with giving me a haircut. Anna is very keen for people to make the best of the hair they have and part of that relates to how nutritious your diet is. And if you have particular issues with hair being thin or starting to be lost, particular supplements can be of a great help. Anna is a source of great information about nutrition as it relates to hair (which also happens to be good information for nutrition for general health) and she shared various hints and tips with me over the course of me becoming a regular loyal client. Ah, but did any of this help? You might be thinking that, right? Yes, it absolutely did help. A lot. My hair is thicker than it was fourteen years ago and where my hair was thinning to the point of my scalp being visible a lot of hair has grown back. I actually put some of Anna's advice to the test without telling her. I started takin biotin tablets daily and a few haircuts later Anna expressed great surprise because the hair in the thinning parts was growing back. She was very pleased that her advice had been taken and was working. I still take biotin, I still use the the shampoo Anna suggested, I look after my own general health (and therefore my hair) much better than I did before walking into Constantinou's for the first time and receiving the first few of many pieces of good hair care advice over the years. I get my hair cut every eight weeks now, and it is always lovely to walk in the door and be greeted with a smile and talk about where life is at, and hear Anna's stories of what she is up to, and feel totally well taken care of every single time. I mean, you don't go to the same hairdresser for almost fourteen years without good reason, right? And all because on a day when the wind was whipping my hair in my face I just happened to find myself in the right place at the right time: Constantinou's in Castle Arcade, Cardiff.

I am not one of those men. This is why I was exceptionally pleased with my treatment when I entered Tans and Hands. It was my girlfriend's birthday looming up, and she wanted something incomprehensible done to her skin that I, as a man, couldn't even half understand. She'd sigh wistfully as she walked past Tans and Hands, hoping that one day she might get the chance to have it done. I, being a boyfriend, leapt into action. I would get her a Gift Certificate! That would give her what she wanted, and also had a little benefit for me if she ended up looking even more radiant. Armed with this knowledge, I stormed in and quickly tripped over my own words. I hadn't a clue what she actually wanted. Sure, she mentioned it to me in passing, but going into a tanning salon and saying "my girlfriend wants you to do something to her skin", accompanying the sentence with vague hand waves isn't going to get you very far. They book their next appointment before they leave the salon. This means that it is almost impossible to get a last minute appointment as the stylists are booked up for weeks in advance.
