When I called to inquire about adopting a puppy Tamera sounded as if she cared. She seemed knowledgeable & acted like she cared about the dogs she was putting up for adoption. After I agreed to adopt the puppy she asked if I'd like to also adopt the older male dog that was her kennel mate. I agreed. It all turned bad after I put in my application & provided many photos of my home. She quit calling back when she said she would. She then moved up the date to meet for pick up. She explained that the male was getting neutered & said I could get the pups on Saturday instead of the original day, Sunday. She told me she would text last night to give me a meet up date/time. I was up late last night & was wondering if I was even going to get them, because she started being horrible about getting back to me & just kept telling me "I work 18 hours a day." I had even offered to drive to Auburn from Ocean Shores to pick up the pups. She refused & insisted we meet up. After failing to text me last night she finally texted this morning & provided a place to meet up & gave a time of 4:30 pm. Just as we were walking out the door she called to change the time to 6 pm & informed that the male is infected with "Coccidia"...a worm. I wouldn't even have been able to see the dogs at 6 pm at night! She took the male in to be neutered on Friday knowing full well he was infected with a parasite! She stated that she had been treating him for 3 days & then said "the puppy doesn't show any signs of it, but I treated her anyway." My roommate was present, I was on speaker phone, so he is a witness to EVERY conversation. She was informed, during the interview, that we had just had to have our chi/mix that we had for 10 years put to sleep on 12/7 due to cancer of the lining of her stomach. Well, a puppy can EASILY get dehydrated & die from Coccidia! If these puppies had died, I would've been EVEN MORE devastated, because I just lost my beloved dog. What I'm really wondering is why she didn't tell me 3 days ago? My roommate finally said "enough is enough, there is something wrong with this rescue, call & talk to her & if she doesn't offer to make this right just cancel." I was so excited about getting the pups! I had so much time, money & emotions into buying their supplies, setting up for them, getting the food she recommended, etc. I was staying up late nights stressing about everything to be all prepared for them. I was watching updated training videos & had invested a lot. I can't even return the food, or the expensive crate (she told me to get a larger one than what I originally ordered). When I called to discuss this with her she didn't even apologize, she YELLED at me & was so unreasonable! I have text messages for proof. She told me that she was "transparent" with me. If she were transparent she would've been HONEST about the dog being infected with parasites 3 days prior to today! I have a genetic autoimmune disease & my immune system is compromised due to the meds that I take, I told her that during the interview. Some types of Coccidia can be transmitted from dogs to humans. Changing of times, failure to contact me on many occasions, were all understandable. HOWEVER, HER FAULURE TO BE HONEST ABOUT THE HEALTH OF THE DOGS WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE! When I called her I expected professionalism, I thought she might apologize & offer to hold the dogs until she was sure they were cleared of the parasites... No, she immediately got agitated & YELLED at me! She then admitted that the puppy had some loose stools & when I asked, she informed that they had just been rescued 2 weeks ago. I had adopted my Chi/mix from a rescue through Petfinder, previously, & it was a wonderful experience, so I didn't expect any issues. I will definitely be researching any rescue I work with after this NIGHTMARE! She doesn't have the pets welfare in mind, because she told me not to take the puppy outside until she was 7 months old & her immune system was fully developed. Yet, she put a 3 1/2 month old puppy with a 1 year old Chi/mix that is infected with parasites! If you read the other reviews, her neglect has caused dogs to die from Parvo! Then, she sent nasty texts lying about everything that took place & had the nerve to say "good luck adopting a dog." Tamera is ruining it for people who want to adopt to save animals lives & provide loving homes because they won't be able to trust rescue agencies after the emotional roller coaster she puts people through. Then she is emotionally & verbally abusive after all of her failures to simply be honest! Why is she allowed to work in this field? She should be charged with animal cruelty & neglect! In fact, I am calling the police & I am going to research every animal protection agency I can to report her!

Pet Partners stopped by my office today with Therapy Animal teams for employees to visit with and…read morede-stress for a few hours in the morning. Not sure if they are affiliated with Sutter Medical's Paws On-Call or if that's Lend A Heart. Their Workplace Wellbeing program brings therapy dogs and other therapy animal teams directly to workplaces to boost morale, satisfaction, and productivity. Four pairs of dogs and their humans came, all female handlers, three male dogs and one female. Didn't catch all the names and exact breeds, but I did get to visit with each of them for a little bit. The dogs' names were Lucky, Harley, Meli (which means "Honey" in Hawaiian) the Goldendoodle and Gorder (sp?). They were each super sweet and very well-behaved, and my mood improved for sure. They were happy to sit, lie down, receive pets and give licks. Such good bois and girl doggos! Wish they could stay longer, or come back soon! Dog ages ranged from around 4 to 7 years old, with some as therapy animals already for 1-5 years. The handlers were local to the greater Sacramento/Yolo area, and usually do visits at hospitals, elementary schools, etc. Some of the pairs knew each other previously and others just met at our onsite location assignment today. We had all dogs, but according to their website, Pet Partners registers "nine different species of animals for therapy visits, including dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, birds, miniature pigs, and llamas and alpacas." If I hadn't been discharged an hour after Zander's visit, I definitely would have taken advantage of having more highly vetted, Pet Partners' animals stop by to say, "hi" but like I said, I was homeward bound piqued with curiosity to learn more about the program. Bellevue, WA based, Yelp listed but not claimed, "Pet Partners' mission is to improve human health and well-being through human-animal bond." Think therapy animals, not just dogs, bringing healing connection to hospitals, retirement homes and schools or assistance/working animals, to help disabled humans with tasks, or provide emotional support to those with mental illness and more. Not every pet, animal, has what it takes to be a Pet Partner, my furbabies are way too diva but perhaps yours might measure up. I was interviewed there and then, never felt rushed or pressured, and before the conversation was over we had an appointment to come to the shelter to meet the cat they also sent follow up pictures and answered questions quickly. The visit with the cat was easy and we were able to spend some time getting to know her. Filled out the contract, gave the references which they called right away, and scheduled the home visit they actually brought the cat to us when we were ready! Incredible. All around great communication, great service, great everything. So thankful for them

I cannot say enough good about this rescue.  We adopted our wonderful furbaby from FSIR almost 4…read moreyears ago.  I found our dog on Petfinder and thought she was in the Bay Area, but she was actually in Taiwan.  I was apprehensive, but I researched as best I could and prayed about it and just went for it and it worked out beautifully!  Please don't let your apprehension about adopting from an overseas rescue deter you from adopting from this group.  They are legitimate.  Our vet was very impressed with the vet services our dog received from FSIR while in Taiwan.  I personally used to rescue dogs and I was very impressed with the vet services and level of care our dog received in Taiwan and while being transported to America.  In Taiwan, our dog was on heartworm prevention and flea/tick prevention.  This is of utmost importance for the health of a dog and some rescues don't attend to these needs because of the costs.  FSIR does and they sent us a healthy dog! Yenchi is FSIR's representative that was in contact with me.  She required pictures of our home and yard and my current vet's contact information. She also asked various questions regarding current and former pets and pet ownership.  She was in contact after the adoption for updates.  FSIR makes clear to you that pet ownership is a huge responsibility, both financially and personally.  I never felt like they were trying to push a dog off on me.  They are the type of group that does not want to adopt a dog to you if you are not serious about the responsibility of owning a pet.   Yenchi did a fantastic job of working out the details of the transport from Taiwan and was in clear contact with me about when/where to pick our dog up.  We picked our furbaby up at SFO and there were no problems.  It's my understanding that FSIR can work out adoptions to pretty much any airport that has a direct flight from Taipei. Please, please consider adopting from FSIR!  It's a legitimate rescue group who takes good care of the dogs they rescue and works hard to find the right homes for them.

It takes a few tries before really learning the ropes of this place, because the system is so disorganized. There are particular stations (ex. drinks, desserts, poultry, grains, canned goods, etc) that majority of the volunteers covered, and basically clients got in a line and circled around the facility, grabbing an item from each station. Volunteers only assisted people when clients couldn't reach at item. Other volunteers were the receptionist, who checked every client in, people who restocked the inventory or ran food drives in front of grocery stores. Cons: -the place is VERY small and with so many clients piling in, it gets cramped very quickly -as a volunteer, I feel like I'm not contributing anything at all; yes, some clients were grateful I was there, but I myself felt to gratitude -the permanent volunteers are very rude, bossy, and kind of like bullies (some of these volunteers claimed certain stations, not giving others a chance to be there) -the system is very disorganized. I volunteer for various organizations throughout the year and this is one of my favorites…read more Basically, you spend a full day out of your life to help build components of a homesite for Habitat for Humanity. They mainly use donated materials from construction companies that are of good quality with volunteers supplying the labor. The finished homes are inspected as any home would and are offered under a loan program that allows a family down on its luck to recover. In our recent event, I helped build a fence and frame a shed, shoveled and laid down gravel at the job site. The rest of the group laid down tiles and painted the walls in the house. The before and after in just one day was astonishing. It is a great exercise for the body and also for team building. To volunteer, you will need to sign up on their website and attend a short one hour safety orientation. Schedule the day you want online and just show up with appropriate gear (e.g. work boots, jeans, old shirt, gloves and some tools. They will provide a hard hat and some tools too for the job. I urge you to join the fight against poverty housing and homelessness. We can make a difference if we all chip in just a little bit!
