Lots of kids and younger guys here and teen class for the teens that are kind of in between the adult and the kid learning mindset. Professor here as a fifth-degree black belt Brazilian as it gets. An absolute master of the craft. You won't be getting anything water down here. Prices are very comparable from what I have seen online for other places in the area. It's been an absolutely amazing experience for me and my kids. As a 36 year-old that started JiuJitsu with zero athletic background I can honestly say it was a bit intimidating to get on the Matt for the first time. Both of my kids had done taekwondo and receive black belts and worked for years at it. That was my turn on the second path to join in with them. The fun thing is on Saturday. There is a family class where you and any age kids can all be in the same class together and it really does give a unique experience. Right now, the school is growing their numbers up again at the new location and is a great time to start because you're gonna get some smaller class sizes for the new students and really emphasize the learning mindset . After a ton of googling and researching (with not any options that I was thrilled with) I finally found Checkmat Portland. Being a new gym, it took some searching to discover, but I'm so glad I didn't settle. After coming across them, I ended up checking out their IG: Checkmatportland and I had a chance to speak directly with the owner, Professor Junior. Professor Junior was very nice, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable in the sport. Immediately after speaking with him, I knew this was the gym to choose for my stay. During my visit, I attended 3 classes, all of which were were great. I walked away with new moves, and really good training tips from each session. I was very impressed with his passion for teaching and how quickly he was able to identify areas in my personal game that I could improve upon. I am forever grateful for the opportunity I had to train with Professor Junior, for his assistance and knowledge he shared with me. I will definitely be returning every time I'm in town!

I have never felt more wanted and appreciated as a client for all the right reasons before. In the past, I've always felt like I was being "sold" to or someone wanted my business because the more the merrier. That wasn't the case here. They saw potential in my son and they knew they would be good for him and they were More than helpful in so many different ways in helping me find a way to get him in their class. Budget is an issue for me and they really worked hard with me to find a way to make it work for all of us. None of the other places I checked into were willing to help me out. I cannot say how much I appreciate everything they have done for my son and I, and we haven't even started yet! The one thing I can say about this place is, it is costly. They are the most expensive place I have found, But I have no doubts what-so-ever that they really truly are the Best taekwondo school around. You can see it. You can feel it. You can read about it. Knowing no one in the area, I happened to be driving by and noticed the signs and the school tucked into a warehouse area. I jotted down the number and gave them a call. Within a day I got a call back from Master King inviting me to come to the school and watch a class. When I went to observe a class later that week, I was greeted by a friendly group of adults getting ready for their adult class , even urging me to come on out and join class. I didn't and chose to just watch and chat with one of the instructors. Fast forward to a year later and that group of adults have become some of my favorite people and good friends. The owners are family focused . Master Buffington, his wife and 2 daughters are all black belts and are welcoming, helpful and knowlegable. The classes are challenging yet designed to accommodate all levels from beginner to advanced. There is so much support from fellow classmates that you really feel a part of something from day one. The structure and constructive abilities hes learned here have been influential in his life. He has me so much growth as a person and as a young man under the guidance of the school. He loved the school and now with the addition of master shim. He seems to love it even more . Good master shim and master Kim or a great asset to any child's development. Here at world champion taekwondo many of the children can learn confidence in their ability, self control, and of course have a lot of fun and make new friends. The school now is a bit crowded due to the closure of the other location. But on the upside we do now have 2 masters 1 which is a grandmaster in the same location.
