In fact Alex, one of the postal workers, came to my rescue yesterday. He is my personal post office hero. I have a disability, which limits my mobility and ability to lift objects. I was mailing a very cumbersome 9 in 1 stroller to my best girlfriend in Loveland, Colorado. The package was bulky and extremely heavy. Alex was sweet and valiant enough to find the best price for shipping AND was empathic enough to help lift it off and on to the scale, as well as carting it to the back for delivery. He is my personal hero, and has restored my faith in humanity. Thank you so much Alex!! Best post office ever!!!

Seemed strange but I said ok if you have to... I asked for it to be insured for $1400. After opening my package and removing everything from the box, all of a sudden she told me she can only insure the package up to $999.99.... ...she handed my now open box back to me so I could take it to fedex directly as she thought they could insure for the requested amount. I asked her to retape the box she felt necessary to open. She replied well they're going to have to open it back up ... terrible service, I took package back home to rebox , upon searching fedex website they only open suspicious packages not any package you wish to insure. Tony , your help is not helping your business.

Lots to do in the area, many parks, nature centers, pools, nice libraries. The downtown area is small, but it has character, with ethnic stores and restaurants. It is up and coming with food trucks and more hip activities. Shopping is easy here, lots of options and the restaurant scene is pretty good, many eateries to try and choose from. They also have a great Farmer's Market. Wonder Gardens should be a must to visit. Their Butterfly Gardens is cute and great to walk around. And yes, there are gators in the area! It is not a lot to do, just enough not to get bored, but they have annual festivals, art fairs, etc. For me it's relaxing, it has a laid back vibe which I need during my vacations here.

No employees outside to monitor the ginormous line of people. Line moved fairly quickly. Some people were up front as you entered the building promoting certain candidates or asking people to request special paper ballots. They were not permitted past certain points. It was a nice night so not to bad standing in line but if it was rainy or windy , not so much. Employees inside were efficient and things went smoothly. Next time I will definitely come earlier so I don't have to stand in line for An hour and a half. Oh. and someone just was soliciting us to sign a petition, when there is clearly a sign that says no soliciting past this point. They really need someone outside to monitor this and the safety of voters standing in a busy parking lot in the limited lighting. Sherriff showed up as I was leaving so things seemed to get better. I would add the people inside were super nice and moved things along but one poll worker told me they did not anticipate the massive crowds so they were understaffed...They did well, considering...

The unit was created by the Bureau of Colored Troops and was authorized by United States War Department on May 22, 1863. The regiment was composed of African American enlisted men commanded by white officers. The 1989 movie Glory was a historical war drama based on a similar fictional African-American regiment. The 2nd U.S. Colored Infantry was organized in Arlington, Virginia from June 20 through November 11, 1863 for a three-year service. The regiment of around 900 men arrived in Key West on February 22, 1864 as replacements for the 47th Pennsylvania Volunteers. They experienced hostility from many of the locals. The unit established a regimental headquarters and was encamped at Fort Taylor, under the jurisdiction of the Department of the Gulf. The unit was then assigned to the Department of Florida until January 1866. The 2nd U.S. Colored Infantry mustered out of service January 5, 1866. During service the regiment lost 173 men. I discovered this memorial in Centennial Park in downtown Ft. Myers which features several memorials as well as art work. The memorial is known as Clayton because it is made out of a ton of clay then cast in bronze. The 9 foot tall memorial was created by local sculptor DJ Wilkins who also created Uncommon Friends, an art piece that is a tribute to the friendship of Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and Harvey Firestone, located a few feet away in the park. He also created many other art works displayed in downtown Fort Myers. The 2nd U.S. Colored Infantry memorial was dedicated on November 11, 1998. it features a 66,000-pound bronze sergeant standing in front of an open gate within a wall. The soldier is framed by two granite plaques mounted on each wall. The plaque on the left is a description of the important contributions of the USCT during the Battle of Fort Myers. The plaque on the right contains a poem, In Freedom Cover Me by D.J. Wilkins. The memorial was placed in the park in honor of the regiments service on February 20, 1865 when Confederates of the 1st Battalion, Florida Special Cavalry attacked Fort Myers to steal cattle and destroy the military fort. The Confederates engaged in a cannon duel with the 2nd USCT in charge of artillery. The New York Times reported that "the colored soldiers at Fort Myers were in the thick of the fight. Unconscious of danger, their constant cry was to get at them." Confederate forces were forced to withdraw at nightfall having failed to accomplish their mission. The Battle of Fort Myers marked the final action of the 2nd USCT in South Florida. Companies D and I left Fort Myers in March of 1865 and Fort Myers was then decommissioned, The USCT is credited with having freed and enlisted over 1,000 enslaved people in Florida.
