Great experience at Cameron Trading Post Restaurant during our last night in Arizona! We originally…read morestopped because there's a Shell gas station right next door and we needed gas, but once we looked over and saw the restaurant, we checked Yelp, saw the great reviews and photos, and decided to give it a try. So glad we did! After several days of driving, hiking, and kayaking, it was really nice to finally sit down and enjoy a relaxing dinner. There's also a Native shop attached to the restaurant, which was fun to browse through before eating. The restaurant itself is toward the back, and the restrooms are conveniently located nearby, so I was able to freshen up and change before dinner after being outdoors all day. I ordered the deluxe cheeseburger combo, which totally hit the spot, while my friend got the beef stew with Native fry bread. I'll admit, I was a little jealous when I saw her dish because it looked so warm and comforting after the chilly weather and all the kayaking and hiking we had done earlier that day! Thankfully she let me try the fry bread, and it was delicious. The atmosphere was welcoming, the food was great, and it ended up being the perfect way to wrap up our Arizona trip. Definitely recommend stopping here to fill up on gas and grab a good sit-down meal while passing through!

Cameron Trading Post, perched above the Little Colorado River on Highway 89 is our favorite place…read moreto bring newcomers to the Colorado Plateau region. Interesting things stand the test of time here. I've been told boys born around 1920 used a Spanish armor breastplate to slide on village dunes. In Old Oraibi, beans and bean stems in a pot placed in an underground storage area and forgotten, carbon dated at Northern Arizona University to about 800 CE/AD. Cameron Trading Post and the first bridge across the Little Colorado are in that swirl of time. Stone architecture from 1916 or earlier, stands solidly in place. Most indoor areas are modernized. Some dining room decorations date to the early years. The pressed tin ceilings were common in my grandparent's world - and rusted away long ago in most of the USA. The main trading post has everything from old, valuable, regional items, to gleaming eye-grabbers from China luring toddlers and youngsters into tantrums. There are also food and other useful items for everyday life, like hanks of wool yarn, etc. The restaurant has excellent, regionally based dishes for your dining appreciation, wspecially the giant, hefty, Navajo Taco. There's a hotel here. A woman I knew, losing her hundred years alive to COVID in 2021, worked in the hotel as a teenager. Gas Station, apparently an RV Park, another great shop full of antique Southwest treasures are on the grounds. This is an exceptional stop on the Colorado Plateau.

Desert View Station only had a few cars in line on the day I was here. Desert View Entrance Station serves as a secondary gateway to the South Rim and the primary portal to the Desert View area. It is open 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. There is also a gas station nearby if you are running low. Desert View is a small settlement on the South Rim that is located about 20 miles east of Grand Canyon Village. Within the area is the iconic Watchtower structure. The view here is the first glimpse you get of the Grand Canyon. If you are traveling on the on US 89, you can get to Desert View by turning west onto State Route 64 in Cameron, AZ. Then travel about 25 miles until you get to the Desert View (East) Entrance. The Desert View area is after you enter the park. Entrance is free with a national park pass.

Have you ever considered not writing a review for fear that people will read it and mess up a good…read morething? I have thought long and hard about writing this review for that very reason. After much contemplation I realized that most people don't really read reviews, so I am here to help out those that do. Made it this far? Listen up. If you are visiting Grand Canyon National Park, you owe it to yourself to enter via the Desert View Entrance Station. Ignore the main entrance at all costs. What makes this entrance so special? A lot. The drive - The drive to this entrance is beautiful. Most of the area leading up to the park is reservation land. The views are spectacular. There is considerably less traffic driving this way. If you get stuck behind a slow moving RV it sucks for a little while, but there are plenty of opportunities to pass. The entrance - Once inside the park the cost is the same as at the main entrance. The staff were very friendly and there was no wait at all. Gas - Want to buy some expensive ass gas? There is a station right near this entrance. I would fill up here just to say you did, but it will const considerable more than stations in town. Convenience - I hate riding the bus. The buses are filthy, the buses are nasty, the buses are not new. Not really, but I always wanted to say that in a review. Inside jokes are the best. But really, there are many viewpoints that can be accessed by this entrance where you can park and take in the view. Most people are entering from the main gate and so driving from this gate means way less crowds. If you made it this far, congratulations. Give me a high five when you see me for sharing this knowledge with you.

Is strawberry shortcake vegan?…read more May 8, 2026 we made our customary meal and pit stop at the Cultural Center and Restaurant. Suzanna was our excellent server that afternoon. We ordered ice tea, it was right st our strength and color level, glowing dark ambee in the late afternoon sun. We added a club sandwich, and chef salad. I confess now that after eating half the sandwich and fries, we boxed the other half of the sandwich and the whole Chef Salad, but had strawberry shortcake while I had my usyal dessert coffee. They do not slack on portions and the strawberry shortcake is not overly sweet. A few hours later we finished our meal in Page. The salad fresh, with many green components, onions cheese, slices lunch meats. Whole wheat bread Club Dandwich, just as filling as at lunch.. An excellent conclusion for the day.

I went for breakfast since this is one of the few places in Northern AZ to actually have blue corn mush on a proper menu. (Blue corn mush, or wu'taka, is also the only real Hopi food on the menu, according to a guide I hired a while back. Though Navajos also eat it...) In any case, the blue corn mush was delicious, and much better than the other version I'd had at the Tuba flea market. It had a rich flavor and a nice porridge-y texture that wasn't congealed or gummy. The waitress suggested adding sugar, and one small packet was the perfect amount to bring out the corn flavor. The hard boiled eggs were nothing special but hey, how can they be?

So on our way there we decided to have dinner here and I'm glad we did. With time in hand. I searched Yelp and the reviews got me. We arrived and there was no one waiting outside, but the place was full. You need to wait outside or you can write down your number and they'll give you a call. We waited about 30 minutes to be called inside. It was so nice and cozy inside. The little fire place was running. It was perfect. I had the three sisters burrito. It's basically a veggie burrito smothered in their mole salsa. It was delish. My daughter had the pork taquitos and my husband combination plate. We started with the chips and salsa. The salsa was pretty spicy. I thought the chip serving was rather small compared to our local neighbors. Everything wet had was delish. We were all pleased with our meal after being on the road so long. We ended with the apple pie nachos. Super good. I strongly recommend. It was so good we came back for breakfast. I started off with the Red Chuli Chai latte. So good and spicy. I had the huevos rancheros. They were pretty good and they were served with a giant flour tortilla. My husband the the omelette. He was so satisfied. My daughter had the blue corn waffle. She was happy camper too. Next time you are on your way to Monument Valley or just passing through Kayenta you must stop here. The food is really good.
